Yes, but I feel alot of people take it too literally. It´s a beautiful piece of art that´s conveying a feeling of frustration with the reasons we use to cause harm and a wish for things to get better. However, in reality things that sound good aren´t always good in reality (See populistic movements like communism, nationalism, Trumpism etc.). "If only this and this happened, things would be great". In reality, we need religion, nations (or other political, cultural unions) but WITHOUT violent and toxic tribalism, walls etc. We need money, markets etc. WITHOUT market failures, lack of opportunity for the unfortunate etc. But this more nuanced view wouldn´t sound good in a song. Lennon´s Imagine is a beautiful piece of art, a beautiful feeling, not something to build your world around. In reality we need pragmatic nuanced solutions.

@@mlberg2327 what you have described is the utopia that most of us would love to live in. Yes, it will be hard and take centuries to achieve, but I believe it will be eventually achieved if those of us who are alive now, take what this song is asking us to do to heart. There will always be those who will cynically say "it's a beautiful idea, but not practical" and continue to perpetuate the status quo. I choose not to be one of them. I dare to imagine, and live accordingly. Ok, maybe mankind will never evolve to that level of enlightenment, but at least it won't hurt our souls or karma, to try.

The song is about Marxism. Do remember the song American Pie, ny Don McLean? In it he writes "Lennon read a book on Marx... " Marxism is Communism. It is cleverly packaged to seem like a Utopia, but it is a horrible existence with only the dictator and a few big wigs in the communist party at the top, and all of us at the bottom with nothing. Incidentally, it is the Communist party or the dictator who owns everything, in this song's case, worldwide comminism. No borders and no free nation like America to defect to like many people living under Soviet Communism did. NOTE: If you say "This is about Socialism NOT COMMUNISM!" You don't know much about either. In the mid 1800's Heinrich Heine wrote: "Communism is being served to the people on the silver platter under the GLAMOROUS word SOCIALISM" Let me prove that true: The former USSR is called "The United Soviet Socialist Republic" and a cousin to this Communist system is the NAZI party of Germany. Proof? NAZI stands for: "The National Socialist Workers Party" The 1st thing they do is take the guns. Why? So you are like sitting ducks - your utopian government has all the guns. No due process, no trial. Go against the party you are taken off the street and never seen again. Millions die in the implementation. They believe they are fighting in the revolution so everyone will get the same piece of the pie. Nope, only your dictators, worse than a monarchy, will own everything. 30 million or more died in Russia, 78 million died in China (45 million in 4 years), 1,500,000 died in the killing fields of Cambodia by Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. MORE IMPORTANTLY for ALL Lennon fans to know: A few years ago it was announced that Lennon's letters to a friend were found. In it he writes regarding this song, and his protesting: "I was a young punk, who knew NOTHING! I was on the wrong side of politics. (He goes on to say something even more shocking to his fans) ...I like this presidential candidate Reagan. He has a lot of ideas that make sense." Lovely packaged song. Everyone is "re-imagining" everything. Sadly, they have no idea what it really means.

I can understand your reaction to the "no heaven" and "no religion" lyrics, but it is a historical fact that most wars if not all are fought over religion. but the rest of the lyrics do paint a pretty picture. "nothing to kill or die for". That is what we need right now. Too many people getting killed for no reason. Pray for peace for all of us. God bless us all, and be safe.

Humans go to war for many different reasons. See World War 1 and 2, Vietnam War, Korean War, Gulf War etc. It´s easy to name so many wars that were fought for other reasons than religion. I am an atheist, but this quite common view that "religion is bad because people fight war over it" is not nuanced. There´s usually a confirmation bias there and a lack of appreciation for all good things that come with religion. Human DO NOT need religion to fight wars, you can separate kids into two groups and give each side a color and they´ll start bonding with each other, forming a common identity. Then they start to get annoyed with how the other group behaves, and the intergroup conflict is a reality. Humans sadly can become violent and conflict-seeking for MANY reasons, religion being one of the reasons.

In every sense of the word. He promoted it where ever he was. You should check out some of the radical things he did! You'll love it. He ended up living in the States, at the Dakota in NYC. He walked the streets sometimes like everyday people. He would stop & sign autographs. On his way out to a recording studio he stopped & signed an album. Then on his way home, Mark David Chapman, (who he signed the album for) assassinated him in front of the Dakota. Anyone who tries to make a change & make things better for everyone seems to share a similar fate. But still they try! So good to hear that you prayed. We cannot give up on hope & faith! Holy wars, taking countries, stealing from your neighbors, greed and starvation. In his world... it’s peace. Everyone is equal, no rich, no poor. Utopia! THe lady is his wife Yoko Ono. John Lennon was a man of peace and love. An original member of the Beatles, he was flawed like all of us but he was deeply opposed to the Vietnam War. Any war. He protested it and sang about a world of peace. On December 8, 1980, John was shot and murdered n front of his home in NYC by a deranged fan. I remember it was a Monday night. Howard Costello interrupted the commentary of Monday Night Football to announce his death. I was working in NY as manager of a ToyS R Us store and I sat at the desk and sobbed. He was a poet of my generation, he was a man trying to bring peace to the heart of every man. I hope you understand the song better now. Thank you ❤️

This is an iconic song. It’s trying to get people to think outside of the box a little bit. Countries are just lines on a map. Religions are just differing ideas about questions that we can’t possibly know the answers to for sure. Possessions are fleeting and ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of things. If we could all just let go of these concepts a little, the world would probably be a much more peaceful place. “Nothing to kill or die for.......a brotherhood of man.” It’s a nice sentiment, but I don’t human-kind is ready for all that! On a side note, I have always found it a little funny that a guy who had more money than probably at least 97% of the people in the world sang about imagining no possessions. Lol. But then again, maybe that just taught him that wealth does not equal happiness/peace 🤷♂️

John paid the ultimate price. He was assassinated in front of his apartment at only age 40. Many people find this song as horrifying. Some see it as an anthem. I think of it was a dream that could never want it to. That's his wife, a Japanese, Yoko Ono. They were..."odd."

Listen, I grew up in the 60's, with the Beatles, Hendrix, all that music. These guys were one of a kind, poets, extremely talented. You would have to have experienced the Peace Movement during the Vietnam War, MoTown, etc. The woman is Yoko Ono his wife, an eccentric woman to say the least. She was an artist, all artists whether musical etc are very strange at times.

Mr Video, Enjoy your channel thank you! Just wanted you to know I am a huge John fan. He did not like organized religion and the fighting over it. He wanted people to live in peace and love and be kind to one another not just to go to Heaven but to all be Brothers and Sisters and Equals as we should be. Also Imagine was written in 1971. It is reported that John gave his heart to Jesus Christ in Japan in 1977. In 1980 when he wrote the song Beautiful Boy for his son Sean he wrote"before you go to sleep say a little prayer" also another last song was Help Me to Help Myself where he writes : "Lord Help Me" Please listen to it. It is as if he knew he was going to die and he was murdered in 1980 that same year. Major goosebumps during this song!!! Take care and keep on rocking!!!

John Lennon was a conflicted man. Lennon himself said of this song, it is "virtually the Communist Manifesto." Then added, "Even though I am not particularly a communist and I do not belong to any movement." He sang of having no possessions, yet his net worth was around $800 million when he died in 1980. The lyrics were largely a work of his wife at the time, Yoko Ono. He later said she should have been in the credits. So much more to this story, but I'll leave it at that.
@munizdaniel74 жыл бұрын
You know what the biggest, most widely read communist manifesto is? Is the New Testament; all of Jesus's teachings. Funny how people (looking at you GOP) seem to conveniently overlook that fact. John Lennon knew that people would label him a communist, but he knew what was right. Btw, Lennon never said it was wrong to make money, he just didn't want people doing bad things just to get money.
@Miykael19334 жыл бұрын
@@munizdaniel7 So predictable. As always the case.. Did Mr. Lennon''s words rub you wrong? Do you think I approve of people doing bad things to make money?
@Miykael19334 жыл бұрын
Oh, and you obviously don't understand the proper context of what Yeshua.was saying.
@munizdaniel74 жыл бұрын
@@Miykael1933 how did you arrive at this conclusion? Read what I wrote. Not one word to indicate that what Lennon wrote rubbed me the wrong way. In fact I'm agreeing with his thinking. Maybe you thought my response was a personal attack on you? I wrote what I did under your comment because it was on the topic of what you said, not because it was an attack on your comment. As far as being predictable, it is only because you assumed and took what I said as the response that you were obviously waiting for from somebody. And as far as my interpretation of what Jesus said: 100 people will interpret the bible in 100 different ways... It is a personal journey, which is why religion has always been problematic ( another point Lennon was making). In any case, the basic teaching of Christianity revolves around the theme of a communal way of life (hence the basic similarity to the idea of communism), sharing and providing to the less fortunate through acts of charity and selflessness. Either way, if my comment seemed like an attack, I apologize for that, but it wasn't.
@Miykael19334 жыл бұрын
@@munizdaniel7 Well, I apologize if I came across hasty. Your first response was predictable, your second one was not. It is rare. I am so accustomed to being savagely attacked if I say anything against Communism or promote what the Bible is really saying. Yeshua was talking to individuals to be responsible, humble, and be giving to those less fortunate. Communal living was tried in the book of Acts, but they were not obligated to give everything, the choice was theirs. Serious problems arose when Ananias and wife Sapphira lied saying they gave everything when they didn't. They paid with their lives. We are responsible as individuals. If you commit, you'd better follow through. The communal living was soon dispersed and they were scattered because of Roman persecution. Modern Communism is totally different from what Yeshua said. It takes over everything and doesn't give people a choice. Greed of man always takes over in a situation like this. Just look at the men who promote it. Karl Marx was a terrible man who wouldn't take responsibility for his own family and let them go hungry while he followed his own selfish pursuits. John Lennon with his hundreds of millions wouldn't help his son Julian who he had abandoned. The support Lennon gave son Julian and his ex-wife, both of whom he had abandoned, would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic. Julian struggled with his father's abandonment for many years until he says he finally has come to terms with it. Julian's mother was a classy lady, more than I can say for Yoko. I don't know if I could be as generous to John's legacy as she was if I had been in her shoes. I was pleased that Julian was able to make his own mark and make a future for himself in the 80s. I encourage you to go to Wikipedia and do a search for Julian Lennon, especially read the "Relationship With His Father" section. Suffice it to say that neither John Lennon or Yoko are heroes of mine. I'll leave it at that, but there is much more to the story.
