First Exploration #1 : The Sanatorium (Apparition)

Creative process
Linking a place to the creation.
We first search and explore a place upstream the recording session.
This phase can be quite long.
On the last 3 explorations we made lately, all the places were occupied and inaccessible.
This is a total part of the process and we take it as a sign showing another direction to take.
We come back few weeks after for the recording of the piece created for this space, and now performed in the space it was created for.
This is a really intense exercise which mixes many emotions, tensions, and releases, excitement in the eyes, and many great discoveries.
We truly developed a passion for exploring places, there is something so beautiful and powerful in witnessing layers of histories and stories.
In those spaces, you can feel a lot of different energies, from darkness to light, infinite layers of emotions, endless interpretations and possible connections.

Great piece of music Helene and love what you are doing from Brisbane, Australia (new sub). It makes me angry and sad to see how these beautiful unused buildings are treated - all that traditional wood craft not only left to rot, but also spray painted and trashed. Only the wealthy can afford hand crafted woodwork like that nowdays. Delinquent youth don't know what was built for them (by hand) and what has now been lost - at least you are breathing some love and appreciation back into the building and sharing it with us. Bittersweet.

Wow! What a building. Some of the graffiti is amazing. Quite eerie seeing nature taking the building back. I always wonder why places like this become deserted. The whole thing looks like someone left in a hurry leaving even the vehicles behind? Found the stained glass of particular interest as that is my trade outside of music. Great soundtrack to accompany the footage.

Nous faisons toujours une première exploration, pour s'immerger dans les lieux, et en ressentir les énergies, leurs différentes couches d'histoire, et la présence de l'invisible. Ensuite, je repars composer dans mon coin, forte de cette expérience, pour enfin revenir jouer la composition dans l'environnement originel, qui a une un fort impact sur la performance. Comme une compréhension et lecture personnelle de chacun de ces lieux.
