beautiful garden and arrangement. Im in zone 6B, near Detroit. It has been so hot for so long. my peonies and lilacs were 4 weeks early. It finally cooled down yesterday because we had crazy rain and wind. Should be in 70's and 80's for the next week, but we had 90's for a while, with high humidity. I've had lots of bees on my lavender, bee balm and coneflower. No butterflies yet, even with milkweed. I enjoy your channel. Take care. p.s. I know what you mean about the "garden mind". It's hard to stay focused on one spot at a time, and my garden is small. You are doing great with such a large garden!

Your giant amaranth is Love-Lies-Bleeding, a Victorian bedding plant that is edible. You didn't select the wrong seeds. Sometimes, they just show up when you're planting the seeds you bought. The blooms are showy and spectacular, don't cut them all back.

Northwest Michigan, high today of 72°, but the current humidity is 91%. A quick dunk in Grand Traverse Bay or Lake Michigan is my remedy for cooling off. I winter sowed my zinnias and they were good sized when I planted them on June 1st. But, they are just coming into flower. So interesting to see how quickly yours have grown, from direct seeding to flowers, in a hot climate.

Just beautiful, you are so talented. Do your Bees 'sting' ? I was stung by a wasp once on my upper lip, ended up in ER my whole face was so swollen!
@SydneyDorman3 ай бұрын
My bees will sting. Bees aren’t like wasps however. They don’t want to sting me bc they die when they do. Wasps can sting multiple times without dying while bees cannot. Bees can only sting other bees multiple times without dying but if they sting a mammal, they die. So, I usually only get stung if I put my hand directly on a bee and somewhat start to squish them. Hard to avoid with that many bees around but I don’t get stung too often!

@SydneyDorman3 ай бұрын
I was so bummed my red dye Hopi variety germinated extremely late and the other variety over took them. I’ll try again next year and arrange the amaranthus in a different way. I should have removed some of the other variety to give the red dye room but I didn’t. Also, the variety that is going crazy was supposed to be coral fountain and it’s obviously a different variety so I’m not sure exactly what variety it is. 😂

Hi Sydney, I live in the Inland Empire, Southern California. Today it was 103*. I redid 4 of my containers that I have on my front porch. They all have succulents in them. I also spray painted my rod iron trellises and porch railing. By 2 o’clock it was 101* so I had to get in the house and cool down. Your arrangement turned out really pretty. It seemed like you were able to work pretty well with the bee sting. Is your hand even sore?
@SydneyDorman3 ай бұрын
The stings aren’t too bad. I don’t have much of a reaction to them. The sting location gets a little warm and itches a bit but that’s about it!

Love your channel Sydney. I live in Ardmore and my garden is overrun with grasshoppers. What do you use to kill those? My flowers are so damaged. Ugh
@SydneyDorman3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thankfully I’ve never had to deal with grasshoppers. I know they can be a bit hard to control organically. I’ve heard of people using neem oil mixed with water and soap with some success. I think handpicking when you have a bunch of adults is beneficial. Maybe some other folks on here can chime in that have had some success controlling them without harsh chemicals.
