Taking Off

Күн бұрын

While the film crew is travelling from one set to another, recently minted CFI Dan Millican (@off.taking) gets a chance to give some first lessons to his cinematographer Ron Gonzalez. This trip is actually the second, and Ron has been flying with Dan for several years, so he has had tons of time in the front as a passenger. This is not a True first lesson in that Dan is teaching Ron while they are in transit for work.

Ron's gotta be an animal to start learning to fly in a 210... I just logged 2.7 hrs today in mine and I still am behind the airplane a bit.

You're going to have to buy a Cherokee or 172 or 152 now to do your instructing in. Something a TAD bit lighter and friendly to land.

I must comment on the excellent teaching style of the CFI ( newly minted at that). You’re calm nature and patient demeanor are great qualities that can be hard to find sometimes in a flight instructor. Ron is a lucky student. And to Ron...starting your training in a 210 takes guts my friend.

Good work! I think you'll be a fine instructor. Good demeanor. Thanks! Although it was not a retractable 210, I did my training in a 180 HP tuned exhaust, constant speed prop, C172. It can be a bit much for a new student.

Great job by both of you! Just a constructive comment about the flight controls being free and CORRECT. As a rental pilot, I never know what happened before I took the controls. I like to make sure the controls aren't rigged backwards and make sure they actually move as expected. I have read stories about this condition, usually immediately after maintenance. Just my $0.025.

I'm doing PPL license training, I'm Italian and I'm 34, in Italy I'm on my 6th flight and we don't do takeoff before until 8th mission, our training sessions are different much longer, indeed i did two take off only be able to control the clutch no the rudder, i can touch pedals only for taxi and when I'm on the sky, in the 3th mission i did ripid and rapid climbs, so after that i tryed in the 4th mission the take off. but only because i was further thanks to FSX, but other students have to wait the take off mission that will comes in the 8th mission in the training schedule.

@TakingOff 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, people learn through different methods. Some are visual learners. Some are auditory learners. Maybe you’re the type of learns best by watching instructional videos. Or maybe just reading books and textbooks. Or just listening to it. For me, I went back to the Gold seal private pilot online courses, and just listen to that as I drove. The bottom line is that everybody learns differently, find out what works for you and use that method to learn.

@@TakingOff Oil PRESSURE???? or Oil TEMPERATURE? Without pressure, your engine is in imminent danger of seizing in far less than 5 minutes (and becoming an $83,000 paperweight). 1000 rpm is of no consequence by comparison (nor is cycling the prop TO 500 rpm during runup). If the pressure (or its gauge doesn't register -- essentially IMMEDIATELY) the aircraft is UNAIRWORTHY and should be red-tagged until the pressure problem is remediated

@@TakingOff I’ve been a renter since 1997 and thinking of buying my first plane and I’m looking at a 210. I’ve been flying literally only 172s since I started. My daughter is also taking lessons (in rented 172s) and I’ve been wondering how bad of an idea it would be to buy the plane and let her learn in it.

@@EricEsser the 210 is a great airplane. I love mine. It’s not impossible to train to fly in a 210. Do you have your high-performance and complex endorsement? Also, insurance might be a huge obstacle, so check into that.
