We added a bulldozer cylinder to this set up and it was far more stronger than needed! As long as your Valve, Pump, and Cylinder is strong enough something is going to move lol. Let me know my friend. Phillip

I've been waiting on this video to see how your frame rack performed and it did the job nicely. Really handy that it's portable, so that you can work wherever you want to and then put it away later. One of my hydraulic jacks that I haven't used for a while decided to leak, so I'll have to top that up after replacing the seal on the fluid lock. Audio was a lot better in this video also. Hope you are doing videos of your trammel construction and upgrade to the spot welder soon. I'm looking forward to these, as I'm planning to make a trammel some time and seeing how you made yours will be very helpful. I might even have to consider making spot welder too! Last dent repair I did, I used the hot glue - gluing on a stick method. Works to some degree, but a spot welder would be better.
@fix2065 жыл бұрын
Bruce, my friend how have you been? I hope you liked the video, I figure out a new way to adjust my audio levels and I think I nailed it this time. Tram gauge video will come on a later date, I'm working on another vid currently. And then I'll have another vid in the works after that. I've used the glue stick method on some dents in the past, it's a great quick fix, that technic is good if you're not planning or repainting the panel.
@BrucePierson5 жыл бұрын
@@fix206 The video was great as usual, with explanations on what you were doing as you proceeded.The fixed audio levels made a fairly constant level through the video. The glue stick method is also handy if you just want to do some of the work now and finish it later. It means not having to remove the paint at that stage, so no need to repaint to prevent rust while busy with other things. It has limitations and it also works best in cold weather, as the glue sticks better when it's cold. I'm looking forward to your next videos, whatever they might be about, as they are always interesting, no matter what the subject.

I drove a car with an 8 inch discrepancy in the frame from front to rear. It was a boat to and was the most dangerous looking car you ever seen travel down the road. Crab walk mixed with a dog that just got hit by a car. You hit a dip and almost do a 180 if you were not paying attention and compensating with correction. Bouncy, pulling to one side to the point tires are making scrubbing dragging noise, and it was just constantly jittery, darty, oscillating, and vibrating up and down back and forth SOld it to a guy that had a alpaca farm.

@fix2064 жыл бұрын
I talked about the 1/2 inch plate toward the end of that vid, how I also have a loose piece of that plate that I can move around to make my pulls 360° around the vehicle. I really wanted to strengthen the very front of the frame rack as much as possible because that's where it would see most of the action and where the hardest pulls will take place that's why I added that plate to the front of the rack. And at the same time I did not want to modify the tower in anyway that's why I left it alone

In older cars suspension alignment would not change unless the strut towers moved, most newer cars use engine subframe. Subframe is bolted to the underside the frame rails. Lower part of the suspension is bolted to the subframe. If frame rails move sideways enough to where are the sub frame would follow them then chances are that suspension would move along with it, and that will affect the alignment

Nice home business opportunity to pick up some extra cash. This is the way we did them in the 80's but with the new high strength steel used in some cars nowdays, is it still possible to repair them still? I'm guessing the reason most go up for auction is because labor costs are so high nowdays that its cheaper for the insurance co's to total them?
@fix2065 жыл бұрын
I know that if even one of the frame rails moved just a bit then the insurance company will write the car off as a total loss.. Or at least that's what I've been told
@briancorrigan53505 жыл бұрын
Yes & no. In order to keep the weight down, strength up and fuel consumption low, manufacturers use different types of steel in different places. There are different repair rules for the different types of steel. You've got mild steel (heat it and beat it), HSS (can be repaired with some limitations), and Ultra High Strength Steel (must be replaced almost always). The latter doesn't refer to one alloy, but an entire class of steels that usually cannot be safely reworked. The proper repair in those instances is to pull the damage straight, then cut out the damage where the factory says it is safe to do so and weld or glue in a new repair section. Every manufacturer has detailed drawings and instructions on how to repair/replace different body panels & structures.

because the metal has already been crushed and then pulled back, isn't the metal weakened, on the next crash the front end will possible no give as good protection due to all the metal bending that happened, am I wrong?
@fix2062 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that the metal lost some of its strength, but not by much. I'm sure the structure is still 97% strong. Funny thing is this car was driven by my wife and couple of months ago some guy hit her in that same exact corner... And everything held up just fine, I'll be doing a video on that repair sometime down the road

Also could help loosen the bolts and subframe make it easier for a pull
@fix2065 жыл бұрын
I did loosen the bolts on the subframe. I even pulled one of the bolt out. and left the other one in so the subframe wouldn't sag under the weight of the engine

Good job,, don't forget to use a safety chain and keep your distance from the area you are working on,,,,,thanks ,,,
@fix2065 жыл бұрын
For sure... Safety always first 👍
@jacquespoirier90715 жыл бұрын
we use heavy blankets over the chains as safety, if ever the chain or the anchor points yelds, the blanketsends the chain and its accessories directly to the ground
@fix2065 жыл бұрын
@@jacquespoirier9071 I normally would do a blanket over the chain myself, I just didn't want to obscure anything this time, because this was the first vid of the rack in action, so I wanted folks to see how everything works. But it would have been a sad day for me if the chain would have broken loose and flung back, because I had my Tesla parked right behind the pulling tower while I was pulling the frame rails over.

Question how do you figure the top rad support with that pointer thing (didn't catch the name of that tool) did you make it or buy it if you made it please share how you made it and give dimensions thanks. it's great to see people think things up and then make a plan and build it and see it work.
