"sounds more like a diesel" lol I thought a first gen cummins was the most diesel sounding you could get ha ha
@themadmailler9 жыл бұрын
Palmer Boudreau I know it sounds odd, but with the older injectors the exhaust had a more gargle-y and throaty sound. more like an old industrial diesel, like an old caterpillar or Murphy diesel. the new injectors gave it more of that classic diesel "knock". i assume it's because all the cracking pressures are alike and up to spec and they are in general better condition.

If Im not mistaken... the marine injectors have a spray pattern that is only compatable with marine cummins pistons and their bowls. Not saying that they dont work with normal over the road pistons as they obviously do but when it comes down to the hard numbers a, if you matched your injectors to a set of marine pistons youll see better hp gains and better fuel economy and efficiency.
@themadmailler8 жыл бұрын
+Austin Washburn technically, you are correct. However, marine 370's have a 5X12 nozzle, and these injectors also have a 5X12 nozzle, but in a spray angle (i think 145 degrees) compatible with my non-intercooled pistons. They are custom injectors built by TheHungryDiesel.

+pineintheash any time that you do mods, especially on a non-IC, you should install a pyrometer to monitor temps. The set up that i have in this video made 900-1200 degree temp just gunning it up an entrance ramp, empty. See my other videos for how i installed a second gen IC, it cooled it off very well.

MOTHER OF GOD NOOOO!! On top of an exposed air filter under the hood (sorry kids, the hot air coming in from the engine compartment negates any advantage of exposing a filter under the hood. Dodge, apart from their other fuckups back then, actually had a good rubberized plastic air intake for the first gens), no intercooler!! This means that the intake air between the turbo and the intake manifold is being pre-heated (again!!) by the engine!! Gale Banks himself would have a heart attack!! You've got multiple heat generators heating the air going into your engine (air filter, turbo, then engine)!! What I would do: Re-install the factory air filter setup. Then wrap the intake horn going over the top of the engine with lava rock tape (works both ways to keep heat out).
@themadmailler3 жыл бұрын
I made that crossover tube, but the original was identical. The intake isn't great but it's how it was when i got the truck, so I just ran it. not ideal but at least it was sucking air from the front corner, away from the radiator.

@Andrew-qf6sd8 жыл бұрын
+themadmailler yeah I looked into it I'm gonna do the Intercooler with hx35 but I'm having trouble figuring out how this turbos outlet is gonna line up with the Intercooled pipes. The exhaust flange mounted seems like the turbo outlet where he crossover pipe would be has to be moved downward cause it would be positioned straight up. Is there a way of rotating it?
@themadmailler8 жыл бұрын
yes, you can rotate the compressor housing by squeezing the large snap ring that is behind it. your best bet is buying a number of 3" mandrel bends and straights and a number of 3" boots (i like the hump boots for more flex). then you just piece it together one bit at a time. You'll need special boots to go on the intercooler in/outlets, they are a goofy size.

Hello. You look like you know what you doing on old dodge diesel. I have questions that you might be able to answer about them truck. l own a W350 automatic w/overdrive 4x4 diesel with original 15,000 miles on it. Bought 2 years ago with only 7,000 miles. The only problem that I have with it, is there is not enough hp from its original 160 hp. My question is with all the modifications you have done on your pomp & turbo how much more approximately hp do you get? I would like a the very least double my hp (320) but between 400 & 500 hp would be nice to have. Well put it that way, how much more horse power you think I could get with a reasonable expense and most important keep the truck reliable and safe to drive. Let's not consider the poor transmission has I would modify it, according to the hp of the engine.
@themadmailler9 жыл бұрын
Gaetan Giroux 1)First off, if you're interested in modding your truck, do lots of research on your own to get an idea of what's out there. CumminsForum and DieselTruckResource are two good sources of data. 2)If you're gonna mod, make your first mod a set of gauges to monitor EGT, boost, etc. that way you won't fry your truck. 3) my truck after i finish the current mods (see my other vids) will likely produce between 200-300 horse, depending on pump tuning. 4) these motors are not capable of producing much more than 400HP, some people have achieved 4-500HP with nitrous, water/meth, and LOTS of other mods. 5) IMO unless you want bragging rights it's not worth it. these are old diesels, not muscle cars. they are also not gassers and don't need gobs of HP to be fun. just after the mods i did in this video, the truck was SUPER fun to drive. I can't wait to see what it's like after the other mods i've installed.6) have fun!

When you upgraded your injectors, did you have to upgrade the lift pump too? Or can the stock one support the new injectors? Also what would you estimate the power your truck is making? Thanks!
@themadmailler6 жыл бұрын
i would guess about 200hp. upgrading lift pump is always a good idea, but if the stock one can't keep up the injection pump has it's own vane pump inside to suck fuel. it's not good to run it that way but it will do it.
@yamamerjohnson31156 жыл бұрын
themadmailler sounds good man I appreciate you’re help. I currently have a 01 f350 i swapped a 6bta from a school bus in. Its practically just an aftercooled first gen motor. I used an hy35 turbo i had laying around, and i plan on going 5x14 injectors. If i turn the fuel screw maybe like 3 turns and turn the boost up on my turbo, is it realistic to expect around 300hp? Or am I delusional? 😂 thanks again
@themadmailler6 жыл бұрын
No idea, and it's not as easy as just cranking in some screws and going for it. it's something you have to play with for a while. and be careful with that fuel screw, 3 turns might get you into a runaway situation. I wasn't able to turn my screw in much without getting RPM hang, which is annoying and also lets you know that you're close to runaway. also keep boost around 30psi max, i don't think those turbos are very happy above that.

+themadmailler I also have a question about your turbo. I saw you have the wastegate solenoid mounted off the side towards the fender. is there anything you had to do to remount it like that? I tried to do an Hx40 on my 1st gen acouple years ago but the stupid solenoid was hitting my oil filter housing and trans cooler lines and I coundnt get it to fit. I didn't even think of remounting the solenoid like that but wish I had. This would really help since I need a new turbo and would like to upgrade from the h1c
@themadmailler9 жыл бұрын
It is not a solenoid, it is just a diaphragm with a spring and actuator rod. As for the positioning, there are two options on the HX35, but i don't know why or what years they were used. My style is one of the ways they came, and the other is where the actuator is mounted on the compressor housing. with the other style, you aren't able to clock the compressor housing because you will mis-align the wastegate actuator, in which case you'd need to make your own bracket.
