Congratulations on your first solo, a flight you will always remember. I don't knw if it's the camera angle but you looked to be very low behind the tow plane, I was always taught to keep the tow plane wings level with the horizon.

Thanks! In Australia we fly in the "low tow" position. It's a bit hard to tell from the GoPro's POV, but it seems about right for low tow from my perspective. Where did you learn to fly, and what in?

@@jacksontenhave7959 I learnt to fly in France mainly in a Grob 103 two seater. I am pretty sure that most of Europe also adopt the wings on horizon method. What is the rationale for low tow in Australia?

@@capnordest Nice. What are the conditions like in France? From memory I think the idea of low tow is to be further away from a tug upset scenario from the glider getting too high behind the tug, but I'm not sure.

@@jacksontenhave7959 We have every kind of flying in France from flatland to mountains in the Alps or Pyrenees. My flying was mainly flatland but did try ridge and wave flying in the Pyrenees. We also of course were taught not to get too high behind the tug as that is very dangerous, but also not too low: Part of the training with the instructor was "boxing" the tow plane as in left and right and up and down and staying within the limits. Are you still flying gliders?
@jacksontenhave79593 жыл бұрын
@capnordest I'd love to try some non-flatland flying one day, sounds really cool! Yep, we learn boxing the slipstream here too. I haven't flown since a glider basic aerobatics course in June this year, I can't wait to get back in the air when school/covid/bank account allows.

I didn't get in unfortunately. Do I know you in person, or did I say somewhere on YT that I want to join the RAAF?

@@jacksontenhave7959 nah saw on your bio you were interested in military aviation. That's unfortunate mate. Hopefully it was not due to anything permanent so you can have another crack. RAAF needs people like you 👍

@@fudruckers3916 Ah yes, that. Well it was a pretty minor medical thing, but we know how they make a mountain out of a molehill. I don't know if I'll appeal it or not, I'll see how I go. I've done a lot more flying since these vids and I'm starting aeronautical engineering at uni now, so at least I'm not missing out on aviation all together.

@@jacksontenhave7959 yeah ah well mate. Good luck with your degree and your aviation career
