We had to do it! We are nearly out of food for cattle and had to get something I stock to feed the fat animals still in the sheds.
The mower, baler and wrapper comes out but do they work? Guess you'll have to watch to find out.

We run the same wrapper and as far as McHale told us 8 - single wrap, 12 - wrap and a half and 16 - is double wrap. Most of our stuff is done on 12 rotations

Great video, but do yourself a favour and get a combi baler with film on film plastic binding, incredible quality bales no waste with film on film, not net to mess with and the bales are wrapped starlight away meaning no chance for the oxygen to get to them

Pretty sure if you move the mudguards in one position it lines up the closest strongest holes and brings the muguard just inside the edge of the tyre stopping you catching it on things. Had the same thing happen on a 6310 years ago.

Try using black bale wrap, don't know why but definitely keeps forage rye bales better for longer.

I have a 991 normal wrapper (one roll not 2) - we wrap 21 rotations so you’d want to be 10 or 11

We have a McHale 991 and im near sure we do 16 rotations.

16 turns are 8 layers of plastic on the bale or if you run a single roll 32 turns for 8 layers

I think you are right 8 rotations is 4 layers and 12 rotations is 6 layers. We wrap bales in the yard with a mounted mchale 991 lber.

12 turns would be 6 layers we use a fusion and mostly do 12 turns, good point about the air i guess the stem is hollow compared to grass, single rows would produce a tighter bale as material is coming in slower so more time for baler to pack the bales, we had new holland 835 chain and slat, then 640 then 644 then 648 then a br 740 which plaid up constantly, then various mchales, fusions roller and belts

Yeh I think I’ll go for 6 layers from now on. Our New Holland BR was nightmare for electric issues. Love the Mchale though. Simple and well built. 👍

You are correct with 8 rotation being 4 layers and 12 rotation 6layers. We are using a fusion here and are getting good results might be an idea for you when it comes to changing one man job

2 things in common 1. In 2009 my NH baler set on fire while baling straw 2. In a few days I will be baling with a new Pottinger baler 3160 Pro model. It’s probably as good as a McHale😂 Hello from Quebec, Canada my friend

@@baldysfarm finally the verdict😂 I baled 450 silage bales (35-40% DM max.) and 30 dry bales in my first cutting, the custom baling will be later when the rain stops. As for the Pottinger 3160V Pro baler, all I can say is wowwwwww. This is truly an incredible machine on every sides. The pickup intake is truly amazing, swàllowing 52 foot wide wet windrows like nothing at 10-12 km/h. The net binding is flawless and the release of the finished bale is very fast. I had a JD V451R before this one. They said the back door curtain was the fastest by far but the Pottinger on auromatic mode is on par. I would love to send pictures and videos of it to you, maybe by email?

Think you should bin the baler and get a clamp now your getting rid of arable you’d have more scope to chop grass and clamp it.

It’s a tough one. Lots of people say this but it would be a huge investment as we would need a new pit, then feeders and troughs would need updating. Would likely cost best part of £250k and then would have to rely on a contractor too.

@@baldysfarm yeah totally understand where your at with it, when I worked on a farm many yrs ago we had a similar issue but we were lucky and the feeder wagon we used was able to empty into the existing troughs and the new feed barriers we put in we fed on the floor. My boss worked out he saved as the silage was in the clamp quicker and sheeted so it was sealed and doing its thing quicker. We did used to do our own big bale hay though as we had 2 farms with over 800 animals both dairy and beef.

As your cutting back on arable how are you going to get enough straw and barley for your cows ??

Hey Matthew. We buy most of our straw in anyway, and have a great relationship with our neighbouring arable farm. We are going to work with them for month straw and barley but also intend making some changes to our finishing system to have cattle out on grass longer 👍
