After so many years of fishing off the back of the boat theres going to be a huge learning curve for awhile until you get used to side fishing and get the bugs worked out of the new system. I would of liked seeing more but im sure you were pretty busy trying to figure this all out. It does seem its went from a two man operation to having a third person or matt is going to get worked pretty hard compared to the way you used to fish over the back. Im really looking forward to see how this new way works when you have big fish on the line. It seems the new way lifts the fish out of the water before you can gaff them. It seems like pretty tight quarters if you land a big fish and not much room to keep from having a big fish beat the heck out of your legs. Good luck looking forward to more videos .

Haha, all valid observations, William. Overall the workload didn’t change much. Some parts felt awkward at first but are getting better. The pinning and baiting hooks is absolutely doable with just us two as it was before. The quarters actually aren’t too bad. I think it looks more cramped than it is. But there are improvements on the list as we work though the new setup. Getting everything operating smoothly and learning it.

You def need a camera to your dad’s left pointing to the water. Your mom used to get that angle when you worked from the back. Set up a mount or a dedicated camera. It’s exciting to see you guys pulling up whatever. Also to see you or your brother handling the fish and hooks adds to it. Just this back shot is not enough. Love the effort and keep on!! Respect!

Nope, this was simply the first day of learning the new setup. And while we are always happy having Tristen and Mom aboard its still doable with just us two. Now a couple weeks later as I am typing this, we’ve hauled upwards of 20-30 sets and its working great!

Matt, I'll take your word for it. Just seems before you brought the fish on noard. Measured if necessary, dropped the fish at your feet, bled them when time permitted, gutted them ghen dent forward to the ice. Now, you go back before coming forward and I imagine you still bleed and gut etc down the back.

Yep, all fair points Doug. There are some compromises we had to make, and flow was one of them to an extent. There are perks some perks too, its a whole lot more comfortable to clean the fish now that's for sure. We plan to get a new measuring setup as well to get length while gutting. All that as time goes on.

I think there may be another change coming, the old saying is "if it isn't broken don't fix it". Fishing side to the sea isn't fun as your experience already knows. Thanks for your videos enjoy them all.
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 10 ай бұрын
Fishing stern to sea isn't great either. Reversing into even a foot and a half chop is very wet and makes it difficult to land halibut. If there is any current the boat has to be in reverse for the entire set, which if a snarl comes up can be catastrophic. We do appreciate the comment though! As time goes on it'll get easier.

Hey Ray! We kind of cover that in the setup videos, and address some other things in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKe4o6yOhtKJosk But in short, to make it easier hauling in more adverse conditions and current. It less risk in getting line in our wheel with snarls this way too.
