First He found A Grapeshot And Then A Gold Tooth.....

This is a metal detecting adventure with Mike, Mike, and Ron. We searched a skirmish site where Mike and Ron had previously found copious amounts of Civil War relics. On this trip, Ron found a large grapeshot (shot from a cannon), and a few feet away, he detected a gold tooth. Are they related? Did the soldier get struck with the grapeshot? What do you think?

This was a strange one. Ron found a gold tooth beside a large, fired Civil War grapeshot. Did a soldier get hit with it? What do you think? I was thinking about when i had my first detector. It was a kit i put together from radio shack. It was a bfo that would make a higher pitch and a lower pitch. Lower was usually iron. I loved that detector !

I haven't found a gold tooth before. That's a first time ive heard of one being found too! I always say you never know what you may dig up but thats a first!

If my neighbors would cut their field, I could find some stuff, but they hasn't so I got nothing all summer. I may have one more space to try, but people detected it that weren't supposed to and found all kinds of old stuff. I found a thick Indian in the junk box at a coin shop. It was beat, but still.

I'm curious why is it harder in dry land? I mean sure I know the digging is rough, but why would the metal be harder to detect?

This is Mike. Wet ground helps conductivity and the machine can find targets more effectively. Also more depth.

Grapeshot's were packed into 8 balls and were fired into cannons during naval warfare and wars. My friend found two grapeshot's on his property and said they were from the war of 1812..

He should have the tooth scanned by a XLR machine to find out the metal properties and might be able to date it by the purity of the gold. Probably get this done at a university for free

I dug a gold tooth off of our local battlefield last summer Was found in a Union Zouave officer’s camp with an great assortment of relics 75 Union soldiers guarding a garrison with three 6 pound guns Against 1000+ confederate gorillas and held their ground for several hours before the last stand Its been an honor collecting evidence from this battlefield across many different properties for our local museum A gold tooth is about as personal as it gets
