I completely agree. Plus it was detached, under budget, and they both seemed to really like it.
@jenniferlynn3537 Жыл бұрын
I’m here to agree ...vehemently. Becky was barking mad to have been unable to see the vast potential that property had inside including for adult entertaining and future play-land for her two boys as they grew. Honestly, I was VERY hard pressed to understand *either* couple’s sensibilities - Craig being the most sensible of the lot. However he seemed cowed by his wife’s expectations - which come at great, great expense - especially where they were presented with the opportunity of a lifetime with that probate house $100,000 under prior asking price. Becky was shopping with criteria one holds when *leasing* rather than purchasing, and using the current age of her children - which was temporary - as an excuse to have her husband make a horrible decision. Ordinarily Kirstie talks sense into such sorts, but somehow this woman was not made to see the unreasonable and frivolous tack she was taking with the single most important money decision they’d ever be making. Charm should not prevail over structural integrity; decor shouldn’t be determinative over space. When not wealthy, you don’t have the luxury of pursuing ill-founded preferences when your whole family’s future is at stake. A house is an investment - and a person’s life, job, income, health is never guaranteed. Housing markets go up and down. If you suddenly need to sell and it’s drastically gone down, you want to be holding a house you got on the cheap. If it’s gone rapidly up, you want to be holding a house you can sell at enough of a profit that you can afford the next home you may need. I’m just shaking my head.

I always enjoy any programmes with Phil and Kirsty, they are interesting ,fun and entertaining, as well as a great way for us to see some of England and UK. It's interesting that Becky works as a town planner, but says she has no vision. No matter how gorgeously beautiful a home was, I wouldn’t even go round the rooms if I smelt the smokers den from the entrance. It’s gross & expensive to try to put right. Plus the health issues from secondary smoke, no thanks bye. Speaking from experience, we bought a house that reeked of cigarettes and the shed smelt of weed, we binned the shed. We had to clean, then strip an entire house and ceilings, leave it airing for a month before re-plastering. Not worth the trouble. Smokers can sell for fellow smokers
@jenniferlynn3537 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering if the smoke smell was from a prior fire rather than tobacco. It’s been my experience *that’s* the smoke smell that a good wash, paint and carpet change can’t eradicate. However, I’ve never faced that issue with lathe and plaster walls.

I find the English real estate conditions weird. Here in New Zealand, once a contract has gone unconditional the sellers have 6 weeks to vacate, or less if mutually agreed by both parties. If they haven’t found another house to move into - tough luck. No one wants to be messed around. We moved out of our last house in less than 4 weeks after sale, as we found a property we were able to move into immediately. However after saying all of that, l love this series as l get to see a bit of the UK, as l doubt l will ever have the opportunity to travel there.

I think in Canada, a closing date is set by the seller, but is negotiable in the contract if both parties are willing. An offer can be made with a specification as well.

When it comes to Craig and Becky, I'm with Craig when it comes to which is the better house (I loved it as is!), but I think Becky, with two babies, is right not to want a house that would need renovations to make it suit their wishes. The house they chose is lovely. It's main drawback is not so much the size of the backyard, it's that it shares a mitoyen wall with the house next door. Unless the sound insulation is superlative, a noisy, selfish neighbour can make your life a misery. That is always a risk. Even if the neighbours are lovely now, nothing stops them from selling to hellions.

He called me crying to come home. I was in Philadelphia. Somehow he came home traumatized but in one piece. Never forgot and will not go there. But I like what I see of Ecuador. Stay safe folks.
