35 yrs ago I hunted MN pheasants in heavy cover just like you are now, when I was your age. I always hunted alone with my pure bred Brittany after starting with my girlfriends Cocker Spaniel. Hunting in cattails and swampy slews requires a bigger dog than a Cocker, but I would hunt in knee high Dakota grasses with a Cocker all day. So after my first season I fell in love with the Brittany breed and brought him home at 5, 1/2 weeks from a top breeder in Monticello with a strong pedigree in hunting and show. After his basic training was completed I got him on some birds at a pheasant ranch at about 9 mos. and hunted him before he was 1 yr. I found he could be directed in the field with arm pointing and verbal commands and was a strong retriever the first year. We worked on his point during the off season . In season 2, his adolescent season he proved to be a hard core hunter, all day. While my friends German Shorthaires had short attention spans. I never hunted the short grasses. And had many roosters fly away leaving a big cloud of feathers behind. I always looked forward to the first snow, because you can tell if your dog and you are close to the running bird. Personally, I take a couple milliseconds to make sure I hit them with the first shot. And I don't let me dog range too far . I liked your video a lot. Make more please. I'm in CA now. And My Brittany was so special; I just couldn't get another after he passed tragically. So please, tell your dog to "hunt 'em up" and there is nothing better than MN corn fed pheasant with wild rice and cabbage.😁

Thank you for sharing! Sounds like your Brittany was a very special dog. I plan on doing a few more hunting videos before the season ends as long as the weather and birds cooperate so fingers crossed. I’ll keep telling my GSP to hunt em up as long as he can!

I cut my teeth on an 870 with a plain 30" tube. I made some great shots with that old gun, and long ones too. People don't believe it makes that big of a difference, but it sure does. Great stuff, thanks.
