First Impression: Abu Garcia Veritas PLX Tournament Edition casting rod!

Here are my initial thoughts on the brand new Abu Garcia Veritas PLX Tournament Edition casting rods!
These rods have been HARD to find, and are backordered until December 29th, so I was lucky to get one.

That looks really nice. Abu Garcia really likes to confuse their customers with 3 versions, PLX, LTD, PLX TE. Could you make a video explaining those three different versions?

Yes, I can. But in case you are trying to choose one now: PLX is the new "standard" veritas rod. It has powerlux 100 nanoresin. The white grips get dirty fast, and there's no way to really clean em back white. LTD is a PLX with Winn grips. Trust me...Winn grips are CRAZY comfortable. PLX TE is, in my opinion, the sweet spot. It's got powerlux 200 nanoresin, and no finish on the blank to dull the sensitivity. It's a light, sensitive rod that punches above it's weight imo. This is the rod I'd recommend for someone trying to put together a really solid midrange combo. I have one casting and one spinning TE rod. Both are paired with Revo SX reels. I own all three of the above. I'd choose the TE first, then the LTD bc the grips are just SO damn comfortable. I use the PLX for "light duty". One of em is attached to a max pro size 20 spinning reel for bluegills.

That's exactly what the plan is :) I'm going to use it with a variety of lures, and report back on whether or not this specific rod works well for it. I CAN report that it definitely does very well with my "standard" bass lure: a powerbait pit boss with a 3/8oz pegged tungsten weight Texas rigged. I definitely want to see the sensitivity with a weightless senko or weightless worm.

I can’t really afford the tournament edition and at first I thought you were comparing it to the plx veritas. Would you still recommend the plx? That’s more in my price range.

I absolutely would. Make no mistake...I still use my plx rods a LOT. They're good, sensitive rods. In fact, I use a 6'6" M/F for kayak bass fishing paired with a Revo S.

I don’t know if you’ll have an answer but how would this rod compare sensitivity wise with a st croix avid or avid x? Because these new Veritas look aesthetically unreal and on the stat sheet awesome too, I really want to get one….. they really look like a punch above their price point

I do not know how they compare to the Avid, but I CAN say this: I'm able to detect light bites from 3-4 OUNCE bass in 20-25mph cross winds with zero problems (see recent videos of this exact thing) These rods definitely punch above their price point

@@TheAverageFisherman99 thanks for the reply, I have a standard Veritas PLX LTD in 7’3 H/F and it’s pretty awesome not gonna lie I’m thinking I’ll get one of these in a 7’0 or 7’3 MH/F for 1/2 jigs and other bottom contact baits should be great for that I’m thinking…. Appreciate the input

I don’t have the money for the tournament edition, would the normal just Veritas still be a good rod?

It's a decent rod if you don't mind the white grips looking terrible, but the Vengeance is a great beginner's rod. 24ton graphite is reasonable sensitive, and tough enough to be durable for a new fisherman to bang it around a bit

@@TheAverageFisherman99 I have a question, on the new model on Amazon it only says medium heavy, but on the 2022 model, the one with the white foam, it says medium heavy and then fast action or moderate fast. Would the 7 foot new rod be fast or should I get the one that says it’s fast?

How do you compare the Veritas to the Fantasista X ? Is it a fair comparison ?

No. The Fantasista X is in a completely different tier than the Veritas. The Veritas is a great rod...the Fantasista is a premium rod with all the premium features you'd expect for a $350+ rod. Don't get me wrong, I use my Veritas plx AND veritas TE rods. A LOT. They've caught a lot of fish. The Fantasista X rod however, is FAR more sensitive and lighter....but it costs almost twice as much as the Veritas Tournament Edition rods, and MORE than twice as much as the Veritas PLX rods.
