Hello, I have a Carbon lite combo that is a couple of years old that I received as a gift. There were no instructions in the reel box, only a parts diagram. I realize that it is probably not the exact same combo that you have but I was wondering if you could answer a question? I know that the magnetic brake is adjustable but do you know if the centrifugal brakes are manually adjustable? I have located a release pin on the reel but the side plate does not come off as I expected it to.
@TheAverageFisherman99
@TheAverageFisherman99 20 күн бұрын
Yes centrifugal brakes are adjustable. You VERY CAREFULLY push them in or out until they click to either engage them or disengage them. You always do it in opposite pairs. Meaning, you engage one, then the second one on the opposite side of the spool. The gold pin on the handle side is spring loaded. Pull that, then rotate the opposite side plate UP and it will disengage. The magnetic brakes will be on the side plate. The centrifugal brakes will be on the spool. If you can push them out easily, they are engaged. All you do is push them back until they click to disengage them. On my frogging reel, I have two engaged. On the white one for finesse fishing, I have four engaged.

I honestly had no idea you could get saltwater specific reels/rods and gear. I recently got into saltwater fishing and have been using my bass setups. I usually just rinse them off well and let them dry in the sun after use. Do you think this is a bad idea, or is this okay? The whole flooding situation sucks. I was planning on going down to Hopedale this Friday but I think I'm gonna postpone until Monday to be safe. I also live about two hours away and don't wanna risk a drive for nothing. I actually tried calling Hopedale Marina to see if they're still flooded, but no answer.

As long as they're rated for saltwater it's fine. My bass rods are all high-modulus though, so I don't want to risk damaging them. Look for shielded stainless steel bearings and stainless gears.

In fact, in six tests I viewed, it broke at 31lbs, almost exactly what the JAFS standard said it would break at by diameter. Trilene big game 12lb is actually 19lb.

Could be true, but that is what I was told in an email from BPS when I was gathering info. Copy/paste: "Depending on the model, the casting reels are made by either the Doyo facility, or a parent company in China that makes many reels for multiple brands. In addition, some lots are produced to capacity at one particular facility, then another, as demand dictates. The parts would be interchangable regardless of which facility they are made." So it sounded like to ME at least, that the casters are possibly made at a few different places. My gray carbonlite tech reel says "made in Korea". My white one says "made in China"...so who knows?

as a BPS employee that owns several of these rods (the frog rod, the super finesse and the deep crank) and loves all of them, I appreciate the honest review. For the price especially, these are outstanding rods though I do agree with your nitpicks. The super finesse rod has been especially outstanding in my personal experience and is the point I think I disagree on you with; I have had it for about a month and I use it for my ned rigs and have already put about 200 bass in on it. Maybe I just have gotten really used to the feel for it though and from a marketing standpoint of it being "super finesse" (i dont know why they labeled it as such when theyre alright with assigning one specific bait or tech to all the other rods and as mentioned prior, at least for me it has been am outstanding setup to throw ned rigs on) in the sense of if they are going to market it as that sensitive option then they should go with an extra fast taper. I also dont know why they didn't make an UL option for this line as the white carbonlites have at least one (i believe two) ultra light variants. Maybe they can address that in a refresh in a year or two. Tight lines!

I have the signature series with the extra fast taper, and it works much better as a "super finesse" rod. Thank you for your viewpoints! Always great to hear other people's points of view. I DID say it was a good rod, just that a "super finesse" would be even better with an extra fast taper as opposed to fast, as it would make it even that much more sensitive for ultra finesse techniques.

I'm looking at this Super Finesse spinning rod. How do you think it would work for crappie with light 1/32-1/16 oz jigs?
@TheAverageFisherman99
@TheAverageFisherman99 Ай бұрын
I think you'd do better for crappie with a crappie maxx pro rod or a BPS Panfish Elite rod. I own all three of these rods, and can vouch for the crappie maxx pro and panfish Elite rods for crappie fishing. They are $40 and $79 respectively. Both of those rods are better suited to the light jigs you mentioned than the BPS super finesse bass rod. The super finesse rod is a bass rod. It's not designed for 1/32 oz light jigs, and the two panfish-centered rods would offer greater sensitivity and bite detection in that scenario, as well as far better casting performance with crappie jigs and swimbaits. Using a bass rod for light panfish duty is possible, but there are better options at cheaper prices that will outperform a rod intended for bigger fish. For $40, the crappie maxx pro rods are no joke, and I own 5 of them for a reason.

Honestly, I'm not a st Croix fan. Their rods are over-priced for what you're getting in my opinion. I've owned a few in the past, but do not currently own any. I've fished with a couple legend series rods however, and they're pretty decent, but for the amount they cost, there are far better rods at the same price or less. The legend elite is comparable to the fantasista X in my hands, but the fantasista is over $100 less. The $130 st Croix panfish and trout rods are inferior to the $40 BPS crappie maxx pro rods in sensitivity AND action, and FAR inferior to the 13 Fishing Omen Panfish rod.

Good Advice! I'm an avid swimmer and got caught in a serious rip tide a couple hundred yards at a beach in Florida. I kept my cool, stayed high in the water column and didn't fight against it. I slowly swam at an angle toward the beach and finally made it out about a few hundred yards down the beach. As far as heat. I was fishing in August in my boat for 12 hours and went to the beach the next day. On Monday, when I went back to work in the E.R., I felt a little weak and shaky. My nurse manager picked up on it. It took 2 1/2 Liters of fluid to get me back to normal. STAY HYDRATED!!1 and wear a hat.
@TheAverageFisherman99
@TheAverageFisherman99 Ай бұрын
The issue is that most people FAR underestimate how physically demanding swimming is, and it becomes even more so when fighting waves, etc. swimming perpendicular to the rip current is key, but it's tiring. Dehydration can REALLY f you up, and fast. Greetings from one ER nurse to another :)

@TheAverageFisherman99
@TheAverageFisherman99 Ай бұрын
I have absolutely no problems doing a walk the dog action with any of the frogs I've used with this rod. It's a good action...fast but reacts more like extra fast. It's fairly stiff, but it DOES flex a good bit when you're setting the hook or fighting a fish. In my opinion, BPS absolutely nailed it with the tip action of this rod. It's as close to perfect for a frog rod as I've ever used to be honest. I've owned a dobyn's colt spinning rod that I gave away in a previous giveaway post on this channel. In my honest opinion, the carbonlite is superior. Not to say the Dobyn's colt is a bad rod, because it's not....it's just the fact that the CarbonLite is built using higher modulus graphite, and is lighter and more sensitive....but it normally costs $40 more.

Man thank you for this! I’m just now getting serious with fishing and I’m trying out new lines. Got 25lb and 0.22mm braided line from kastking and tried that over my mono 6.0kg (like 13lb) and 0.285mm. The casting distance was pretty much the same for both which proves that what you said is true even with braided and mono! It mostly is the diameter that determines casting, only noticeable difference was strength. Even though braided is still much stronger.
@TheAverageFisherman99
@TheAverageFisherman99 Ай бұрын
Yep! Diameter is king when it comes to casting distance for sure. Two lines of the same diameter, whether braid or mono, will cast roughly the same if the mono doesn't have lots of memory to slow it down. That's yet ANOTHER reason I use Hercules braid. It's Japanese standardized (nftta) by diameter. For example: suffix pro mix 6lb is 0.14mm. Hercules 10lb braid is 0.12mm. So the standardized 10lb is smaller than the domestic market 6lb. Not even American BRAID is rated correctly by diameter. I very much dislike companies that under-rate their test strengths for marketing reasons. The lines I use the most are as follows (if you are interested) 1. Hercules no fade green 6lb test braid for spinning panfish combos. 2. BPS EXCEL in 2lb test for mono panfish combos 3. Hercules no fade 10lb test 8 strand braid for bass on spinning combos 4. Hercules no fade 20lb test 8 strand green braid for casting combos for bass 5. Hercules no fade green 30lb test 4 strand braid for topwater frogs for bass

Been here for a few days staying with her family till we find a place. It's absolutely beautiful out here and can't wait to go fishing! Stay safe and tight lines brother!

A lot of facts being spit here! I keep fish but I do it when and where it makes sense. Conservation.

Exactly. I keep my fair share as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT greedy. I don't even ever keep more than 10-15 bluegills. I will even keep the occasional bass from areas that are overpopulated with stunted fish.
