Yes Byanca, you’re right. Two days is not enough. So many places to visit in Penang. The eastern side is the kampung homestay and fruit orchard farm i.e. Durian, nutmeg cater for eco-tourism, the street food located in the middle of the town, the straits quay, tanjung bunga and tanjung tokong with luxurious condo where the expats live, the beach and the five start hotels are at the northern side, the hill, botanical garden and forest in the middle of Penang, the snake temple in the southern side. Get one knowledgeable Penangites to show all of these places when you decide to return and further explore the island.

What's interesting about Penang is that the old buildings are not mixed with modern buildings like other places in Malaysia, making it more orderly and organized. It will definitely become one of Malaysia's future cities, just like the city of Johor.

I'd been there for just one day on my way to Sumatra. The restaurants and food are amazing. We went to an open restaurant where you sit around the different kitchens like a market but different. At night times the whole place transfers into a bizzy restaurant area, but dont really remember if it was Penang or Butterworth, where we took the boat to cross. Definiteley a place to visit again. 👍

Ah seriously I really need to be in Penang again. You captured it perfectly. Usually when it comes to Penang people emphasize more on the amazing food. But I also think the buildings are charming. Some of the architectures are like an amalgamation of many cultures. Like u said, they are "cute" haha

You are correct in your impression about the similarities between Penang and Phuket. The Chinese immigrants who settled in Penang and Phuket were from similar places in China and in fact some Chinese families still have relatives in Phuket. There was vibrant trade between Phuket and Penang in the 19th and early 20th centuries, including the movement of peoples between the two places. In fact, a famous Penangite, Khaw Sim Bee was appointed by the King of Siam to be Phraya Rasdanupradit, the Governor of Monton Phuket in 1901. There is a road named after him in Penang. The Nine Emperor Gods (aka TaoistVegetarian Festival) is celebrated on a grand scale on both islands.
