I've seen several videos, the features appear to be plentiful, but several reports claim spurious emissions. Thanks for sharing.

Spurious emissions are a serious concern for any responsible operator.

Serious question why should Preppers care if it passes spurious emission test? Besides the argument it’s illegal ?
@RadioPrepper5 ай бұрын
Good question. Depends how bad those emissions are for me. Out of bands use for me is ill advised. No need to draw attention or create problems to other services. Otherwise, harmonic limit numbers are a legal construct, but there for a reason, so IMHO it's good to avoid worst-case scenarios.
@RadioPrepper5 ай бұрын
As to legality, ultimately it's the user's responsibility to determine that, as amateur radio operators supposedly aren't just appliance operators.

7:26 DMR uses less power because the radio is only actually transmitting half the time you're holding the PTT due to TDMA. 30ms of time for 1 timeslot, then a 30ms pause to allow traffic to pass on the same frequency for the 2nd timeslot. It flips between these rapidly.
@RadioPrepperАй бұрын
Sure, but the extra processing requires power too.

for the bluetooth mic to trigger vox it would have to keep the bluetooth audio channel open which would kill both devices batteries. you would need a bluetooth push to talk button which are available fairly inexpensively. the earpiece that it came with probably has a ptt on it.
@ZiggleFingers5 ай бұрын
read the manual - yes the earpiece has a PTT on the side

The Encryption DMR feature is interesting for sure. Maybe in Canada you can use it, but unfortunately here in the USA its illegal to use under FCC regulations to use :( (although it would make a great emergency use radio for SHTF)
@RadioPrepper3 ай бұрын
I doubt it is legal anywhere outside of a business license..

So this HD2 sold in the U.S. market w i l l transmit 136-174 & 400-520 ???
@RadioPrepper4 ай бұрын
It can be unlocked, as far as I know..
@sergiocavazos89635 ай бұрын
I have both. for me, hd2 has much better reception, can "work" with the screen in the sun, the center dial works a little bit better (yet slow response), the c usb for charging is good, the antenna seems to me with better swr, bluetooth is nice to have, extra upper button is an improvement, gps is slow locking the sattelites and when using gps with aprs would like to have the channel transmiting location even when not selected (blue background) en the screen... what else?? well thats for now

The screen is slightly bigger it would be interesting what firmware will bring later in future

11:04 Bandwidth 12,5 kHz on PMR band it's twice as wide. Transmitting with a deviation of 10 kHz is interfering with 2 adjacent channels. Can this radio be set to receive and transmit 6.25 kHz bandwidth?

I have noticed some reports of spurious emissions. Do you have some further insides on that?

Adding to this, my daily driver is a Yaesu. Keep in mind that in a prepping context the issue isn't as important as in daily recreational use. I always prefer better filtered radios, but it is not always a deal breaker if the signal isn't as clean as it should be.

Another great video, thank you! Do these Hd1 and Hd2 have fast frequency copy button like most Baofeng radios?
@RadioPrepper3 ай бұрын
Never heard of that button, what does it do?
@sekibulja-fu3bv3 ай бұрын
@RadioPrepper all it does if you press copy button it puts radio on quick scan for local frequency mach....and if you Ptt another radio it picks up frequency and ctcs tone. So you can quickly pair with diffrent radio. Just like with quashengs uvk5/6....if you press F and 4 it scans another radio local frequency. This button can be reprogrammed. Thank you

The radio doesn't pass the regulations regarding spurious emissions. It's just another expensive Baofeng.
