Nice video! I've been following you for a while since Im plannig on doing a conversion on my own. I was wondering when you were gonna pick up on pianoteq on ipad or even iPhone to give those nice pianos the sound that they diserve. I mean, If you are going to spend that much money on converting you might as well make them future proof. Connectivity to phones and computers will make these pianos basically last forever, as the piano software will continue to improve, while the midi technology and action will largely be unchanged. I love to see you install a big touchscreen on a tall upright and power that with a computer inside the cabinet to run basically any piano software imaginable, and even use it to read notes and follow youtube turorials and such while playing. You can also install a nice trackpad to control a mouse if you wanted to. There are endless possibilities with these conversions and thats what makes them so fun.

Preventing or reducing planned obsolescence is a big part of why I build them the way I do. Since the hardware system is modular, one bad part can be replaced or upgraded without replacing the rest. Software is upgraded with a new iPad or app. The system outputs standard MIDI - no proprietary code.

@ I can see that. Nice pianos. You are definitely ahead in this business. Smart idea to acknowledge the shift in the market and focus on repurpose instead of renovating/maintaining. Also smart to broadcast the pianos on YT as its basically free advertisement and quite entertaining. Love to see more from you.

Great idea ! What kind of MIDI sensor or MIDI system are you using in the acoustic piano's action ?

This one has a new old stock KB-1 but you can use any strip that outputs MIDI including the new ones by QRS and PianoDisc

You said in the video that you were going to "open it up" and let us see the action etc......

I wish there was a way to implement that wireless. Those wires Stink.

There is. Most digitals have bluetooth midi. Even low tier ones like roland fp-10 etc. Im planning to convert an aucustic to digital using pianoteq on ipad. If you build it with this in mind you can hide the cord pretty neatly.

There's several remedies to hide wires. One option is to mount the ipad where is swings out from below the keybed. We can also go under the music rack with the wiring. It's also possible to put the processor inside the piano (wired) with a wireless GUI for controls - that way the latency is still controlled but the wires are gone. These are custom builds. Sort of like racing - how fast you go is determined by how much money you have.
