I absolutely love this pen to pieces. In fact, I had recommended the Aurora 98 to you more than once in the past. I own two of them. So does OdE. The 98 is smaller, thinner, (though not shorter), but just as stylish and lovely pen as its illustrious forerunner and sibling, the vintage Aurora 88. The 98 belongs in the early 60s (‘62-‘63), and discontinued within a decade of its release. There are a few different models of the 98, including the cartridge-converter version and different material/finishes. The one you own is the most desirable version with Aurora’s early ‘Magic Reserve’ filler with that captive converter-style piston filler. I have a sterling silver one, and another glossy black with gold filled cap. Both with the reserve filler. The semi-hooded nib is a wonderful writer. I have the M and XF. Smooth, with trademark Aurora feedback, consistent flow and very reliable and pleasurable to use. And the pens are invariably very affordably priced. You don’t need to unscrew the barrel to fill, though. You press the golden end button to release it. You operate the piston by twisting to fill with ink and then press it back down. Ready to write. In some of these pens, the barrel is even sealed shut, so you cannot unscrew it open anyway. Vintage Aurora is too good to pass. The vintage Aurora Duo Cart also springs to mind.

I like these pens. I am certain the barrel is supposed to screw onto the section. I have a couple of these myself, and they all have a screw conntion. In your pen, the treads are probably more or less worn out. SInce the screw part of the built-in converter can be operated from the outside of the pen, I would advise you to use Shekkac or a similar adheseive to secure the barrel/section joint.

so glad you’re pleased w your Aurora: have bought at astronomical expense an Aurora 88Big w EF nib which is hilarious: not sure which nib this is, but it sure as sh*t isn’t an EF unless you like writing w crayons for a living; but it looks pretty and writes well but a whole lot broader than advertised so I am willing to tolerate their woefully inadequate nib description:)

Strange to hear this. I have 24 Auroras with eight different nib size points. In my experience, the only nib that isn’t true to size is the B, that often writes like an M. Some others have said the same.

1. This thing seems to write very unevenly, EXCEPT in reverse. 2. It's good to have a GOLD pen. And silver.

In years of observation as well as personal observation of a friend in person (Pier Gustafson) during an in person meeting with our dear squirrel. The squirrel is indeed heavier handed than some as far as writing pressure, which is why I am certain this nib is showing such characteristics
