The studs in Titus’ (and others’) heads are service studs. One for every century of service. Space marines are effectively immortal, they serve until they eventually get slow and die in battle, but they do not die from old age. Or, rather, no space marine has lived long enough to die from old age.

Small correction but silver studs like Titus' actually represent 50 years each. Titus has been fighting for over 200 years. The years of service a stud represents depends on the faction using it and material it's made of.

Don't feel bad. The service studs lore we had before this game was limited to 3 different chapters with 3 different sets of representation per color. It was Dark Angels: Gold = 100 years, Silver = 50 years. Soul Drinkers: Silver = 10 years. Chaplancy: Ebony = 10 years. Crazier Calgar has only 2 gold service studs in this very game, but Titus has 4 studs (that are either gold or silver in yellow lighting all the time). Clearly Clagar is the older, but Studs imply they're either the same age if going by Dark Angels and Titus having Silver studs in yellow lighting. However if Titus has gold studs then WTF. Lol. Anyways Calgar has had the same two studs since the 90s. Clearly they just never updated his studs in 30+ years. However we do know Calgar was chapter master in 745.M41 so presumably was in the Ultramarines at least 50 if not 100 years before that. However he can't be over 500 because that's the age of the oldest Ultramarine who teases Calgar that he is young for a Chapter Master... especially compared to Lord Dante at 1,600 years of age. But yeah, 40k has plotholes because like any multi author franchise they don't always line up in their lore.

Then block those few Tyranids that approach you then attack. The ideal goal is to have one on one fight with the Tyranids in quick time because others will approach you immediately. By the way your are already good in your gameplay and you are quick learner😊.

If you were wondering about why Sarkaana called Titus "My Lord" and why all the Cadians/Imperial Guard were bowing, the space marines are called The Emperor's Angels or the Angels of Death. They're essentially considered akin to demigods because they're absurdly powerful super soldiers. And no, not related to the Alien Universe. "Xenos" is a classification for any race that isn't human. (Think Xeno in Xenophobia)

Warhammer 40k can essentially be summed up as: "Everything is awful, and you will die horrible." The Imperium is a corrupt, rotting theocracy, kept afloat solely by its massive size and inexhaustible armies. The Emperor would weep is he saw the Imperium as it is now; he wanted to create an enlightened golden age for humankind, and he repeatedly stated that he was NOT a God (although frankly he was so powerful he may as well have been). But the moment he "died", the church took power, elevated him to godhood, and declared that anyone who didn't worship him was a heretic. There new Imperial Regent is showing some signs that he might pull humanity back from the brink. And, even if the Imperium can never become what the Emperor envisioned, it can at least become better. The Regent is one of the very few living beings that knew the Emperor personally, and understood his designs. But for the most part the Imperium and the Imperial cult are too far gone; the Emperor's divine status probably can't be contradicted at this point (indeed, the Regent is himself worshiped as a quasi-God himself, as the Emperor's surviving son). You can't unmake 10'000 years of religious zealotry.

Tyranids (tirranids) have the same motivation as reapers. They exist to just eat everything on a planet, including eventually each other! The bio sludge is then sucked up into the hive fleet and used to make other tyranids. Then they move on to other planets. They aren't from this galaxy and the terrifying thing is that they have entered the galaxy from every direction meaning that our galaxy may well be surrounded completely by tyranid hive fleets!

@@lucyjrobynThe Hive Mind also bases new strains off new genetic material it learns of, like the Tyrant Guard being based off Space Marines while the Zoanthropes and Neurothropes are based off the Eldar. And as j9lorna said, they re-absorb their own dead to re-use the material, during a Tyranid invasion it’s a very real possibility that you’ll kill the same creature several times in different forms. Also, the swarms of tiny Rippers is their main method of collecting biomass. Also-also, I get the impression you REALLY don’t want to know the details of their guns.

This game is so faithful to the setting. It looks fantastic and really nails the heroics of the Imperial Guard, the might of the Space Marines and the world-ending power of the Tyranids. Oh yeah 40K is very British, at least with it's political satire, writing and accents. It's kind of like the 2000AD comics, Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper to name a few 2000AD titles that pre-dated 40K by a few years. It's gritty, dark, and brutal but also has a good amount of dark humour not taking itself too seriously. But over time it kind of lost it's self-awareness like alot of franchises yet you can still find examples. Warhammer 40000 - Boltgun (2023) is a fun retro "boomer" shooter filled with 80s cheese as a recent example.

Oh lordy, 40k is such a huge lore and I mean it'd take you a VERY long time just to scratch the surface. And actually, you're not a "Chad" you are a monk. Genetically modified and surgically altered and in several inch thick ceremite armour with a weapon that fires self propelled rocket bullets. The Deathwatch comprises of individuals from different marine chapters who specialize in fighting xenos (aliens) and have state of the art equipment for doing that.

@@lucyjrobyn Don't watch Bricky. So many of Bricky's lore videos have wrong parts in them, that if you know the lore like I do, you'll just get a headache. Also avoid Bricky's other channel, Adeptus Ridiculous. That has the same problems with his main channel, but it's also a comedy channel, and they don't do a good job distinguishing the jokey lore they came up with, with the legit lore they're talking about. Also, avoid Majorkill (who doesn't read the books and is considered a joke by 40k fandom), WesHammer (also inaccurate), the Templin Institute (who ironically considers lore unimportant despite being a lore channel, and says anyone who doesn't agree with him a mindless automaton, and a coward who backed down from a challenge he issued), and Oculus Imperia (who actively passes his headcanon off as the canon). Who you should follow is Luetin, The Amber King, Janovich, Arch, and The Pontius. Those guys are the best 40k lore channels.

When a warrior is leading a swarm, always go for the warrior. Killing it would kill all nearby gaunts aswell because their synaptic link with the warrior is severed. A feedback of sorts. P.S you can toggle helmet visibility from the settings.

So, my guess as to why Titus' age is so difficult to discern is because his nature and age was intenionally masqued, first by the inquistion when they took him and second by the ultramarines (as Mr Chaplain tells you.) In the first game, Titus has two gold studs indicating two centuries of service and in the second he has 4 silver, indicating two centuries. Clearly, we know he isn't still two hundred or at least, he wasn't around ONLY two hundred years ago. The Lexicanum has revealed that Titus was imprisoned in Thrax's base for a century and then he served his century in the Deathwatch. So Titus is seemingly 400-450 years of age. The silver studs are meant to keep the ruse up for his privacy and the chapter's morale.

Im not dont with the video so maybe you improve but a big difficulty im noticing you having is you keep trying to make distance once your already stuck in melee. The enemies outnumber you, they are faster than you. One your in melee you need to clear them out with melee to survive. Trying to evade and make space is just giving them free reign to chunk your health

Game is amazing. Story seems super fun and I've played the co-op operation a bit and that is also a blast. You pick between 6 classes; tactical, assault, vanguard (no biotic charge, but it does something similar with a grappling hook if that helps lol), bulwark, heavy, and sniper. Super fun when playing with people you know/in a team.

@@anathardayaldar not so casual here but pre primaris, generally its only higher ranking officers, squad leaders and Astartes Scouts that dont wear full helmets. The first two groups do it for recognition reasons and because they're generally badasses (also much like in movies you don't want to hide the faces of your more notable actors) for the last group they generally don't because they haven't graduated to being full astartes thus are not allowed the honour of wearing the proper armor. Though if the situation absoloutely dictates it, they'll wear some sort of protective gear. Some chapters like the Space Wolves wil generally all go unhelmeted where possible as their extra enhanced senses give them more benefits than they feel helmets do (also they love their beards which don't mix well with helmets) In the pre primaris lore they served as a scout then moved onto Assault Marines (melee jumppack people) then Devastators (heavy weapon support) and then finally Tactical marines (general purpose line infantry). Though this depends on the chapter, some (non codex compliant) Chapters do things differently. With the whole Primaris thing they have these days its slightly different but mostly the same just renamed, unfortunately I'm not well versed on the Primaris period of history.

You don't have to know about the wider lore to enjoy them but their is enough of a pull that you'd be compelled to learn because when you see 8 foot tall human tanks in armor, you wanna know more about them. My advice, if you genuinely wanna get into this is to take it slowly and read up upon the factions that are within the game first. What they do, how they function etc. Then you can expand from there, again slowly but surely cause this is one of the most bloated universes lore wise probably ever To put it in perspective, the entirety of Space Marine 2, this one planetary wide battle is nothing else but a minor skermish in the grand scheme of things Warfare is waged on an intergalactic and intermidemnsional level and people die in the billions like it's a regular Tuesday

Titus is not even the oldest Space Marine. There is a Space Marine named Dante he's thousand years old. He's the oldest active Space Marine still fighting. Dante is from a different group of Space marines called the Blood Angels and Dante is the Chapter Master of the Blood Angels basically the leader.

Loved to watch you play Warhammer 40k and enjoy the setting. Welcome to the gory, dark future of the 40,000th millennium. ;-) As you have noticed, the game could do a better job in explaining some things in the beginning, mechanics-wise, as for example the combos are not that apparent. Also, it is not mentioned until very much later in the game (after the campaign) that Tyranids are synaptic creatures, meaning their minds link together. This has the effect that when you kill one of the warriors (the larger ones), the smaller Tyranids either outright die as well, or at least are stunned for a short while. But nevertheless, you did a great job picking up the mechanics anyway. The combat has a steep learning curve, at least I don't know anyone who mastered the parrying/dodging straight away. I played through the campaign and began to play the PvE Operations when I started to really get the hang of it. But at the same time I never had the feeling that it was impossible to beat the game, at least when you play on normal, although with the recent patch at least Veteran difficulty should be doable with bots as well, from what I've read/seen. The reason enemies are sometimes outlined by a yellow border is Gadriels ability called Auspex Scan, like your special ability is Fury. It highlights enemies, even when they hide behind objects, and makes them more vulnerable to attacks, i.e. you do more damage on them. You are right in your assessment that the Tyranids do look a little like Aliens, that's because Warhammer 40k took inspiration in Alien and Dune. And it is also correct that some elements of the game look similar to things in Helldivers as Helldivers was inspired by Warhammer 40k (amongst others). Same goes for SpaceCraft, btw. SpaceCraft basically tookl Warhammer 40k and renamed the races and changed the design a little to avoid copyright issues and then started to tell its own stories, independent of Warhammer 40k. Last but not least, a little bit of background lore on Titus, as I have not seen anyone else explaining it. Titus was also the Player Character in the first Space Marine game. The Space Marines follow a code called the Codex Astartes in which essentially their tactics and strategies are explained. The Ultramarines, of which you are one, usually follow the Codex Astartes to the letter, but Titus always viewed it more as a guideline and not as strict rules. In addition to that, at the end of Space Marine 1, he was fighting against Chaos forces and came out victorious, which one of the Squad Members found suspicious and thus reported him to the Inquisition as possibly tainted by Chaos himself. To make sense of that, it might be helpful to know that the Inquisition operates under the mantra "Innocence proves nothing", i.e. you can be guilty without even knowing it. I won't go into the details, but this is what led Titus to serve for a century as penance in the Deathwatch, a special order of Space Marines that fight for the Inquisition. One could argue that in strict Warhammer 40k terms, Galadriel acts a little weird as he, especially as an Ultramarine, should not question the decisions to make Titus the Squad Leader, but that was probably introduced for the sake of storytelling.

You really should use Rage more when you're low on HP. I understand trying to save it, but stimms are rare, Rage recharges fast, and it's the only other way to recover fully lost HP.

Yeah the controls can be a bit tricky - but you get used to them. There is a rhythm to the game. You don't want to sit around waiting for parries , you want to get aggressive but pay attention to the enemy. They will give you tells, and you should parry on those. Also noticing lots of streamers just spamming the boltguns. Bolt guns are precision weapons but they have a lot of recoil. You need to single fire and adjust your aim as you shoot, and don't lean into the trigger until the enemy is in your grill. I'll empty a clip at close range before I go to war with the sword.

Calling a Space Marine 'just a normal guy' isn't really correct. These guys have been training to be superhuman machines of slaughter since their early teenage years (sometimes even younger) and they're so heavily augmented it's hard to call them human anymore. The markings on his head are service studs which indicate years of service. One silver is equivalent to 50 years and a gold is 100. It's a bit fucky in game but in the original trailer Titus has 4 gold studs (which is the number I'd believe more than anyone else's guess).The scars around his shoulders and neck aren't from where they've reattached limbs, it's from the Rubicon surgery to make him a Primaris Marine (It essentially requires a Marine's skin to be stripped off so an augment can be fitted) A Magos is a way of saying Priest. The Adeptus Mechanicus (the guys in red robes) are a tech obsessed cult originally from Mars who believe in the divinity of machines. Normally the Imperium doesn't like anyone who doesn't believe that the emperor is a god, but the Mechanicus are basically the far future equivalent of Raytheon/Lockheed Martin so they get a free pass. The Astra Militarum are the rank and file of the Imperium's armed forces and they die in droves, but there's so many of them it doesn't really matter if billions of them die in a war. The Cadians are among the toughest units they have, mostly because their home planet was right next to what is essentially the gates of hell and they got attacked all the time. To put that in context, Cadians learn how to strip, clean, reassemble and shoot a lasgun before they're taught to read

I’ve gotten 15 hours out of the PVE mode alone and i feel I’ve barely scratched the surface. There’s a LOT of unlocks to go through for that mode, both cosmetic and weapons/perks, with a solid difficulty progression that keeps the game relatively fresh despite only having 6 missions at launch. Gameplay-wise it’s most comparable to Vermin/Darktide or L4D. I think its longevity will really depend on the developers pace at adding new missions and other content. They have a huge roadmap but these things often change. I just hope it doesn’t turn into Darktide, a game I love playing but the developers are so slow at adding content it’s hard to play the game consistently for long periods of time.

The Warp (aka the Immaterium), where thoughts, desires, and emotions from all living beings are made real, and turned into psychic beings called Daemons (pronounced as demons). This game is overrated. The combat is clunky and infuriating. They give you a small amount of ammo for your underpowered weapons to shoot massive damage sponges known as enemies. Constantly running out of ammo while your being swarmed and forced into a melee playstyle while being barraged from ranged enemies. This game could be amazing, but it's just constant disappointment, frustration and punishment for giving them money. Instant refund.

Just move backwards faster and waiting for one or two Tyranids that will approach you faster than the rest and block their attacks and hit them. The ideal goal is to one on one with Tyranids and kill them faster since other Tyranids will approach you immediately. Rushing in swarm of Tyranids is a suicide. What I love about this game is you have to use your brain to survive this game. This is just one strategy I came up. Maybe their are other strategy that are more effective than mine since there are many varieties of skills in Warhammer.
