You left out the most important bit. What was the Yorkshire Tea like? Well actually, I already know as I drink this brand myself. I wonder if you tried it? As to the pen, I admit I haven't heard of Loft Pens. I checked their website as I was curious about the price and for other pens in their range. I agree the colour pattern is really beautiful and I haven't seen a pen like it. This is a real fun design and seems well made.

I'll have to have some tea this weekend. During the week I avoid tea when at home because I like to sleep at night. I'm thrilled with this pen. Loft Pens has other rainbow pens which I don't think are as successful.

Wow what a cool pen. With a box that appears to have been given some thought so that it is not unpleasant to look at and can be reassembled, it seems, into more than one style of display stand, very useful for a clip-less desk pen. Yes I did notice that the section color bands matched the cap color bands -wonderful- this alone is worth whatever you paid for the pen. The bonus is not only is it a rainbow pen, but an excellent pen for a physics, astronomy, general science teacher. Great lecture prop! Take it out of a pocket hold it up in front of the class, wrapping your hand around the end of the cap to cover the few bands beyond the violet one, stating today we are going to talk about the visible spectrum....and proceed from there.... including introductory remarks about Emission and Absorption Spectrums. Of course with the caveat that while the black lines on the pen are not exactly like absorption lines, the pen as a whole is similar to what you would see, with the appropriate instrumentation when you examine white light. What a grabber opening to your unit lectures on the nature of light. Just a thought, glad I am not still a planetarium lecturer and astronomy instructor, or I would have to immediately track this pen down for myself. I suspect the black rings are the same type of material as the color bands. I would think if they were ebonite there would be to much of a discontinuity between the materials to bond to each other and separations would occur resulting in, at the very least rotating rings and bands. Extra thanks for this one, a very cool pen.

Good ideas! I'm doing a little optics in my STEM class due to the partial eclipse we'll have on Monday during that class. (Sadly, the weather may not cooperate.) I haven't used the pen case as you describe, but I also live in a small house. I still appreciate the design! You're right about the dark bands. I should have realized that.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm looking at their Etsy shop and there are some compelling options. Of late I feel not many finishes get my attention all that much but this style is not something I've encountered so it's got my interest.

perhaps try the wedge shapped pieces on one side and the pen holder that want to support the pen that curves upwards on the other side. perhaps the idea is to let the lid lean backwards a bit and hold the pen so you can lift it up.

I went for the Bock nib mostly because so many pens like this come with Jowo nibs. I don't want to be collecting a bunch of differently colored Jowo nib-holders.

Nice looking pen, but would be unavoidably a political statement if used in public in my town (San Fran). Is it the same back in ND?

That is a good point! Here it's a pretty pen, which is mostly what I bought it for. But I can see someone getting angry about it, or feeling like I was forcing a viewpoint. Nobody who has seen it has made a political connection. And my own purchase was influenced how it was a rainbow expressed well in pen form. I'm aware of the other meaning of the rainbow and am not bothered by it.

@@WaskiSquirrel regardless of the message, I just don't want to be the kind of guy who uses pens to send political messages. Which just means I would keep my rainbow pen in the drawing room.

The color way is not the “correct rainbow” let alone color order to make a political statement. So just a rainbow pen, just the same as the Visconti one or the montegrappa version.

@ichirofakename With my job (especially considering where I live) I avoid politics at work as well. But nobody has seen this pen or the rainbow clock on my desk as anything other than a fun display of color. I actually got some pushback when I changed the clock to just orange for Halloween. The kids prefer the constantly moving rainbow. Even with the internet, rural North Dakota is a bit of a cultural bubble, for better or for worse. And my background is in physics. Rainbows are just amazing for all they show us about how light works.
