Awesome locomotive Anthony. Thank you for the history on this locomotive. Definitely would like to pick up one sometime. Again thanks for all the great videos. I enjoy finding out about a lot of Marklins locomotives history. 🚂🚂

Hello, Olaf. I enjoyed learning the story behind this livery very much and I am glad some enjoyed hearing an abbreviated version of what I learned. I am still very ignorant of most train history and designs, but I have tried to learn some things with German/Central European Era/Epoche 6, as that is where my interest lies. Even though this model is outside that era, the story behind it was quite fascinating.

As it is experimental, I am still debating what cars to run with it as none technically go with it, but any can go with it. I am thinking red silberlinge's are the best choice. I am also looking at buying the experimental coaches, too. A slippery and dangerous slope you got me on. lol

Nice! 🙂 5:14 the orange upper left one is not an experimental livery, but the S-Bahn Rhein Ruhr livery. 111 111 - 188 were produced in this livery.
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Hello... from the German sites and channels I checked, the orange-striped version I showed was listed as part of the experimental range. I can only go by what the sources I used say. So, it or a variation may then have been used for S-Bahns and suggested for DB as a fleet livery or the livery then went into the S-Bahns, in which the 111s were quite prominent, to my understanding. Cheers for watching.
@ronik24 Жыл бұрын
@@ModelTrainOutsider It definitely is very famous as S-Bahn livery and was widespread. I don't think anyone nowdays would regard it as experimental. Next to the 111s, many car sets and class 420 units stayed in this livery for decades. What you might misread as "experimental" was that is was part of the so-called POP color scheme of 1969. However, just as it was abandoned for all other vehicles after five years, it stayed for the S-Bahn. And it was expanded to the so-called CityBahn in 1984, when even a couple of 218s received this livery.
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
@@ronik24 I can only go by what the DB article said, the images shown. It isn't that big a deal.
@ronik24 Жыл бұрын
@@ModelTrainOutsider Hi, you can search for "Pop-Lackierung" on Wikipedia, there is some more background. It also shows a picture of the last car in this livery in regular traffic 2008 - so that is 40 years of this "experimental" livery in regular operation ;-)

Very nice loco Anthony I really like how it can be powered by pantograph or track 👍
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
I knew there were many models made to be powered through the pantograph. Within recent memory they have made some that can do it, although powered-catenary is no longer produced that I have seen. It is easy to do, and many liked it, but now, almost all is for looks and not function.
@monsvillerailways5736 Жыл бұрын
Tri-ang Hornby did something similar with the Class 37 I think, by releasing the model train before the Diesel was in service. When the locomotive was released the paint work had changed. Oh well. Nice looking model you have whether it was ever in service or not. Happy Modelling Mon
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
It is very nice, but really suggests "Austria" as the livery looks like the flag. I think Märklin knew these were not going to be the final choices, but made them anyhow as collectibles. The argument against that is that they used their lowest construction levels (almost all plastic body and chassis) in making them. Still, very sharp-looking for supposedly "low" production value.

Hi Anthony, the 111 looks to be in great condition for an 80s model. It doesnt sound so noisy to me considering the mechanism of the time. Another cool Loco in your collection and with an interesting history. Cheers, Paul.👍👍👍
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Hello, Paul! I do hope you are well! Like old Hornbys and such, I think it is not quite a shock to see these models still in good shape. They were built to last. I am quite pleased with this one and, in many cases, it is my most unique buy and is most outside my interest, but it is a cool looking bit of trivial DB history and the price was fair.

locomotive seems to be running fine, with good power, as far as the Maerklin set, I would buy it, and I know you will😊 sorry about the Browns, they had to get to Stroud to have a chance of winning, which they did not, enjoy your Sunday Sir. Regards, Joseph
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Hi Joseph. I like this loco and enjoyed learning the history. As for the Browns, I expected this, because the defense is actually very bad on the road. They needed to get to stroud for sure, and the DL actually had shots, but Schwartz had the DBs in soft man or read zones, and the entire defense kept overreacting to every play-action or fake and got suckered out of position. Had they played assignment football and gap defense, they might have pulled it off. Stefanski was Stefanski and failed to recognize what was not working and put the game on Flacco's shoulders with a very bad OL instead of trying to force a running game. Sadly, I expected the coaches to do what they did. They are too predictable.
@ivovanzon164 Жыл бұрын
The one in the set with the cars is the 111 069, which has the other variant with the dark blue skirts. The logo is correct but not DB correct, but nobody cared as it was quickly repainted in the white warning panel scheme. This one is actually the second version, of the scheme as there was also one with asymmetrical paint which looks even stranger. The E320 was also painted in a version of this scheme, and it still wears these in the Koblenz museum. For the effect of these colours: keep in mind that while Ozeanblau was the standard scheme, most electric locomotives were still wearing the 'speed class' blue or green at the time this was introduced.

For getting one in era 6 colors... The 111 was quickly scrapped after reunification as the government decided to support the LEW Hennigsdorf factory building the BR 143... So there aren't many in the later scheme unless you go for Privatbahn ones

@@ivovanzon164 Not quite accurate. They were quickly removed from S-Bahn services and moved to regional train services, where they replaced the older Einheitslokomotiven (E10, E40 etc.). They were painted in the current scheme starting in the late 90s and have looked like that until now. Retirement from service properly began in the 2010s, although on my local line they were pretty common until 2020 (and are still rarely seen).

I hate to disagree, but I have seen a few 111s in service in full DB red, including 3 different ones Joyce and I saw on this year's trip. It blew me away, as I had heard they had been pulled from service when I started in the hobby. Märklin does have one in Era VI livery released in 2014/2015

Hello, Mike. Thank for this information (along with Ivo). I had heard a few years ago when I started in this hobby that the 111s had been pulled, however I saw a couple in my 2019 trip to Germany, but saw 3 this year alone, so there seem to be quite a few still in service.
