They are also known as Seville Orange. Apart from being made into jam, their other significant use is - BEER! The peels are often used in Belgian and other fruity beers. Hoegaarden is famous for it's coriander and bitter orange taste.

First of all the greek salad is the best made with Florinis pepper. Also you bought tangerines not oranges which are bigger (ask for χυμός if you want it juicy. )You should try other traditional food like Graviera cheese, Mizithra, Tirokafteri, Gavros (little fish) or other types of fresh fish or sea food (inside the same central municipal athens market, you wasn't wrong about the fish smell, you must visit it), also the sweets like roxakia, κωκ, portocalopita, bougatsa, megalomakarona, greek yougurt with honey, trigona sweetpastry (there are many pastry shops everywhere) or even spinach pie, ghemista, papoutsakia eggplant. You can try Veneti fournos shop in Omonia square to have lunch 12-15 (without Sunday). Enjoy the greek delicious food that can be discovered at every street in Athens

I would like to suggest some places for you to see. 1) LIKAVITOS hill. You will see a breathtaking view of Athens while enjoying a coffee or drink. You go up either by car or a special lift cart. 2) Pasalimani and Mikrolimano in Pireaus which is about 20 minutes away from the center of Athens. There you will see an amazing modern (in Pasalimani) and old (In mikrolimano) marina. 3) Kolonaki which is the fashion designer district of Athens. 4) The amazing Athens Riviera and Glyfada. 5) Parntha mountain you will see very nice wilderness and get to feed and interact with deer which you will meet near the Parnitha Casino Hotel. 6) Syntagma square there you will see the changing of the traditional Guards (Euzones) every hour.

Just a tip, we don't eat those oranges because those...are male oranges and they are extremely sour at first and then they become bitter when they're ripe 😂 You just fell in one of the most classic pranks we do to tourists like "Oh, look. Here, have an orange" and then watch their face twist and turn at the sourness or bitterness of said orange 😂

Since you seemed to have a natural interest on how the word "efharisto" is spelled and why, and then got slightly confused and perplexed about it, I decided to try and explain what s going on for you, and make you realize that if you know a couple of tricks about the Greek language, it only takes one or two logical little jumps, not even leaps, to get to "Oh ok that makes total sense". Not sure if you 're that interested, but you know, it s free information in the end of the day, so why the hell no :) So lets see how you go from "e...why..ex..?!?" to "aaaaaah! ok!". First of all the nice lady wrote the word in caps to make it easier but we re gonna need both types of the word in order to follow the logic. So, "ευχαριστω / ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ" is how the word is spelled. Now, the last letter, I'm sure u' ve heard of, it s called an "OMEGA", it s the typical verb ending in 1st person verbs, we can just ignore it. So we re left with "Ευχαριστ / ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤ". Now here comes the first neat trick. As you might notice, "u" and "Y" are the same letter in Greek. Actually "Y" is the capital "u". So instead of thinking "e-why, that doesn't seem like anything" start thinking "e-you" --> EU. Eu is a common bi-vocal in Greek that has transcended into Latin and from there into English a lot. For example Europe, Euphoria, Eunuch etc are all words that use this "EU" combination. In English, it is pronounced "you" as in "yourope,youphoria,younuch" but in Greek it doesn't. In Greek, it sounds half the time as "EF" and half the time as "EV" for reasons too complicated to explain, but all you need to know is that your English "Eu" sounds "EF" in Greek. When you see it in the beginning of a word, it means "Good". Like the word "eu-phoria", literally means "Good-bringer", something that brings "good", like joy and satisfaction. So we 're done with the "EU which sounds EF" part of the EF-HARISTO, lets go to the second trick: The letter "X / x" doesn't sound like "X" in Greek. Our "X" sound is a different letter that doesn't exist in the English alphabet. When you see the "Χ /χ" letter in a Greek word, you should be thinking "Ch" in English. Specifically, all the words where "ch" is pronounced somewhere between a "thick h" and a "k". For example: Charisma, Character, Chronic. These words sound "kharisma, kharakter,khronic" when you pronounce them and that is because in Greek they are spelled with this "Χ / χ" letter, so when they were adopted to Latin they were spelled with a "ch" in order to emulate that "thick h" or "kh" sound. And your last neat trick is that the letter "P / p" in Greek is the actual letter "R / r" . Which is confusing, but yah, it is what it is. So wait.. you say "-ΧΑΡΙΣ / χαρισ" of "ΕΥ-ΧΑΡΙΣ-ΤΩ / ευ-χαρισ-τω" is... ok X equals CH, and P equals R, wait that word is familiar. CHARIS. Why do I know this word? Charis? oh, Charisma, already mentioned. So charisma is what? Grace,Gift. Wait, Ef + Charis --> Good Grace? and a verb ending? So.. I good-grace (you?).. Oh wait.. Like italian: Grazie.. or Spanish: Gracias? Yup, Good grace to you basically. That wasnt too complicated, was it?
@ypruss2 жыл бұрын
thank you in Greek it's simple. It's a word you also use in English like Eucharist (spiritual communion with God) from the Greek eucharistos grateful. So easy
