Thank you so much Doug. I live in Salt Lake City, and I try to go back and visit my home country Iraq every couple of years, and every time I go and come back, my American co workers and friends ask me how it was, and I say “it’s like heaven” and they look at me like I’m crazy. They don’t know the amount of comfort that I feel, they don’t know how humble, hospitable, and generous the Iraqi people are. That’s why I’m so happy that you’re making these videos, because you’re showing the world the actual, real Iraq. You’re showing the side that I see and feel. And you’re showing it from your unbiased point of view, that just makes it much more real. So thank you very very much, and please come back again!

May God bless the souls of all the young martyrs that sacrificed their lives for us, and may He fill the hearts of those who long for their loved ones with patience. Had it not been for their sacrifices and the issued fatwa of Sayed Ali al-Sistani (May God prolong his life) in 2014, everything in this video wouldn't have been possible - tourists visiting, the smiles of people, or even the chirping birds in the morning. What you saw was only one mother who lost her son, there's hundreds and thousands of stories that haven't been told or shared on social platforms yet, and probably never will. Thank you Doug for taking us with you along your journey and experience in our homeland. Glad to see you enjoying your time in Iraq :)

I don't know how I stumbled upon your video of Kerbala and like you was bowled over with the beauty of the Imam Hussein shrine. Iraqis who have suffered so much for years are so friendly to foreigners is a credit to them. It's most unfortunate that our media portrays these hospitable people in such a bad light. I have decided to visit the country in next three months during their winter. I have travelled extensively in the east and almost all the markets sell cheap Chinese goods but Iraqi markets had their locally crafted souvenirs, a credit to them. Thank you so much for this fantastic vlog. Watching it and then reading the comments below has me in tears. I thought I would have been able to go back to Iraq ten years ago - but have not. Your vlog and its portrayal of the brave, proud, welcoming and resilient people of Basrah is as joyous as it is humbling. Your reaction to the mother of the martyr'd son was deeply moving, as was the reaction of the small chai boy, with his soft toy. Your open friendliness toward your hosts and their's back to you says much for your and their common decency and humanity. It was also fantastic to glimpse perhaps the beginnings of the restoration of the Venice of the East I wish the people of Basrah and the rest of Iraq peace, prosperity and joy. One day I want to go back to Basrah, by the route I came 19 years ago - up the 801 from Kuwait, via Umm Qasr - but as a pilgrim and tourist. Salam washukran
