We have finally made it to Belgrade, Serbia! It's so nice to be in a brand new city in a brand new country, we walk around Belgrade sharing our first impressions of this city.

Nice video. In Serbia in primery schools it is mandatory to learn 2 foreign languages one of them must be english and other can be russian, german, franch depending on school you are going and in Highschool you are aloud to learn one more language like spanich, Italian or even Chinese now. So in Serbia if people speak other languages they are usually polygloths. For Russian Serbian conection they are Slavic languages, Russian being East Slavic and Serbocroatian or Serb, Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrin (SAME LANGUAGE) is South slavic language. They originated from Old Church Slavonic, slavonic meaning Slavic. Serbian is closer to West Slavic languages like Slovak, Czech then Russian but all slavic languages have over 50 procent of the same words some times with a different meaning. Город=Град, Борода =Брада, Доброе утро=Добро јутро, etc. Fun fact about Serbian is that is only European Language with 2 writings Cyrilic and Latin or Roman. So average kid in 5th grade learned 2 writings systems, and 3 languages on top of other subjects. And in Serbian there are many Turkish words used still. Have fun guys.

Yes, you're right. English language was and still Is mandatory in every school, High school or university. You cannot avoid english + another foreign language in school.

You have English from the first grade of elementary school in Serbia, and also movies/series are not dubbed but you always have original language and subtitles so people learn it that way also. Definitely check out Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade if you are interested about that part of our history.

Actually, it's a church which they call St Sava temple (Храм Св. Саве), the biggest Orthodox one in the Balkans. It is nearing its completion and is more than worth visiting, including the Crypt.

In general communism is associated with Russia and its partners. However, Yugoslavia was not bounded with Russia and its partners who maintained the iron curtain during the cold war (1947 - 1989). I was able to drive by car from Germany to former parts of Yugoslavia (Slovenia and Croatia) in 1979 without a passport. All I needed to show was my German national ID-card (Personalausweis) and the green insurance certificate for my car.

Yeap Yugoslavia was never behind iron curtain... Socialist but western ally. FYI former republics are still one of the most tolerant towards foreigners (there is some animosity between us ex-yu citizens but mostly because foreign interests couple of bad apples amongst us and Balkan pigheadedness)... Safety for travelers and people in general in this part of world is better than in most of western countries, although I have to admit that it was way safer before Yugoslavia split up. Nevertheless enjoy your stay here...

Hey nice video, dont be dissapointed if not seeing a snow at all, unpredictable, last year it was maybe few days with snow so it can be very boring winter with rainy periods but advantage can be lots of sunny days like in this video. And there are also years with lots of snow that lasts over a month mostly in jan. or feb. Anyway winter can be boring a bit but i love it because it slows down people for rest because in summer people rarely visit their homes and it can last long since april to november sometimes, i remember swimming in Ada lake in middle october.

,, Dubai " of Belgrade is the Belgrade waterfront project. I can recomend you to visit it, it has beautiful promenade along side river. It also has biggest shopping mall in south east Europe - Galerija mall. Project will take 15 more years to complete and it will include thorning down some old buildings and the old green bridge ( next year ) New bridge will look much fancier :) Other than that I can recomend you to go to Ada Ciganlija ( Belgrade see ) Man made lake with beaches, restoransts, bars, golf terenains, byke traks and much more. Its of course much better in summer time, but if tgere is sun its still nice for a walk. You can also visit Ada shopping mall and go to roof ( amazing view of the lake and tallest single pylon bridge in the world - Ada bridge ).

To have a sense of new Belgrade you can visit Belvile ( fancy neighborhood with Delta shopping center ) and A-block ( includes restorantes that mostly famous people go ) And you can go To Ušće park ( museum of contemporary art ) and most popular shopping mall Ušće shopping mall

Skadarlija is a MUST - bohemian corner in old Belgrade. Skadarska street is one of the oldest in Europe. You can also check Kosancicev venac, beautiful style architecture with cobblestone road with cafes that overlook river. To go a bit out side the city i can recomend Avala mountain with Avala tower that is more than 200 m tall. Tower has restaurant and last floor is for site seeing. Who Avala area is beautiful for walking with one of the biggest monuments in Serbia ( spomenik neznanom junaku ).

Since you shown interest in history of Jugoslavija, i can recomend house of flowers ( kuca cveća ) with Yugoslavija musieu and Titos grave. Also you can go to Sava Square ( partly open ) still under construction. And of course Temple of Saint Sava - 2 biggest Orthodox church in Europe

Hey thank you so much for all your recommendations, we really appreciate it. I have taken a screenshot so I remember these, we have filmed a few videos and we are now in Niš. We will be coming back to Belgrade very soon. The museum of Yugoslavia and House of Flowers are going to be 2 of the things we see when we come back. Yeah I've been a celiac for about 6 years! It's hard travelling with because I get so so sick if I accidentally eat gluten so I try to avoid eating out just incase! Thats so good you can eat in moderation while travelling! America is pretty good with gluten free too aren't they? I recommend Serbia for Gluten free food!

I was there in September 2021, I agree with the part about the PCR tests etc, they did not check it for me, I never experienced the police part tbh I was in and out with no issues or interviews. Also on the taxi front, I would call a firm called pink taxi they used to operate out of the airport but covid saw that put on hold, apparently, they are coming back again supposedly this year. When you were at the fort that exact spot at @11:15 is beautiful at 6am I took my fiancee there and we sat watching the sunrise with breakfast from lulu's bakery

Just have on mind that Serbians celebrate Christmas at January 7th following Eastern Orthodox Church calendar. December 25th is just a regular day. However you can still celebrate a New Year which is a great holiday in Serbia.

I recommend you to visit the cities of Noi Sad and Subotica or Sombor, you will like it. Belgrade celebrates the Happy New Year every year on December 31st, a big festival in the city center and on Sava Promende.

I have been told that Australians that have trouble with wheat based products may find that European wheat based products may be less of a problem. Australian wheat is a drought tolerant type that is slightly different in its composition, I believe. For some wheat intolerant people it may make no difference.

In Yugoslavia at least in 80s in school you would chouse betwen English or Russian..in cities most would chouse English..now everyone sin school learns English + other langue you chouse (now German and Spanish are popular)

Airport is sorta in a ruff state for some reason.Constantly inconsistant some is due to construction going on,then cosntant changes in some things we dont know about.But what ive gathered from looking at videos it seems that there might be some internal managment problems within the company that runs the airport being all over the place in past 3-4 months where one week everything is fine and dany then the other its chaos,then another week its all smoot then the week after they are all over the place all inconsistant.Also the service on certain crafts went downhill suddenly for some reason as well.Even in those most consistent crafts for some reason even they became inconsistant.Its like in few months they been bombarded with inconsistency curse.I might be wrong but something deffinetly is happening that all of a sudden airport managment and quality lvl in certain crafts just in few months went downhill realy fast.

Russian and Serbian aren’t really similar to the point people can spontaneously communicate without preparations. You need to get used to the sound of another language and learn at least some basics and key differences. There are also quite a few false friends (same word, different meaning).

Let me explain you what happened on the airport. Because you were arriving from Turkey a lot of immigrants have fake passports and they are trying to determine if you are lie about the true coming to Serbia. The jails are quite full of those ppl. But if you arriving from another destination you wouldn't experience that, you can check out on different YT videos, they are saying that no one asked them anything, just give them a passport and they stamp it and say welcome to Serbia.

I dont think you will get the white winter in Serbia (not anymore).Last few years it is a miracle to have the snow in november,december period.Maybe IF LUCKY you get it in january,febuary but even that is questionable.I remmemebr as a kid sometimes it snowed preaty hard even in avgust,september,octomber.Then overtime it stopped or like if lucky get 2/3 times just small amount of snow fallig in intervals.Then for teh last liek 3-4 years or so we sometime s(in certain parts of Serbia) dont even get snow at all and if lucky we get it onc eor twice in like febuary.Now the only so to say way to get any snow is if you are in Zlatibor/Kopaonik.There you have much higehr chances of getting atleas some snow.

They are worried about becoming a new Belarus, because of the big mess on their border with Poland. Those people arrived in Belarus by plane with a plan to walk over the EU border. Usually they are more chill about people coming to the country.

@@hgworldtour hi... Well, I hope that you'll find some time to explore Serbia cos Serbia is much more than Belgrade. One day trips will be enough for exploring cos everything is close to Belgrade. My recommendation for you is to visit mideval fortresses on river Danube, Smederevo, Ram, Golubac fortresses, also while you are in Belgrade you can visit museums, Nikola Tesla museum, museums of Serbia and Yugoslavia. Saint Sava temple, military museum in Kalemegdan fortress.. If you want more recommendations , just ask and name it.. We have it all. 😁

Serbia is the cradle of European civilization, see Lepenski Vir and Vinca, we had first metallurgy and letter, all white Europeans originate from us, also Troy was ours, Homer (Iliad, Odyssey) was old Serb, Greeks stole everything from us, they came later from Egypt on our land, once we had the biggest land, but everyone attacks us, because we stay in Truth, so we now have this small Serbia

unlike ex Soviets, Poland, Hungary, Czech/Slovak, Germany or Italy foreign movies and tv program here are never dubbed. Yugoslavian and now Serbian people listen English through entire life. You don't even have to learn it at school to be fluent in English
