So, couple of things. 1.Eastman uses zero imitation materials for nuts and saddles. All none even down to the $300 models. 2. The satin headstock is interesting on an E6. I’ve seen several models that were supposed to come with gloss headstock, full body, etc. I’ve also seen guitars that were to come in all satin, that were full gloss. 3.Sapele necks are used on the pch models, mahogany on E6 models + 3. Tuners were gotoh originally, they switched to Pingwell a few years back. Lower end models could use a tuner change. I know some of the sb(les Paul) models come with gotohs from what I’ve seen in person. Glad you got to check them out. The lower models crush it as well. You get a TON of guitar for the money.

The sound hole reinforcement is a piece of spruce that makes it look like the top is super thick, but put your finger further in there and you’ll realize the top is normal thickness. :)

Eastman guitars are much better than some other reputable and more expensive brands. Completely handmade guitars from A to Z. Personally, I find that they are the best guitars on the market. Owning an EASTMAN AC 222 CE Ovanghkol and the Eastman E6D. These are guitars with incredible projection and they are incredibly powerful.

I bought an Eastman 00 size guitar (mahogany, Adirondack spruce) a year ago, brand new for $1200 which was my entire budget for a new acoustic. I looked at a variety of sub-$1500 guitars, including Martin, Gibson and Guild, and there just was no comparison: Eastman far and away outshone all the others.

I also had an early E10D.Eastman has long been a world-famous workshop for producing classical stringed instruments.And I started making guitars about 17 years ago.The production of the violin and other techniques was as impressive as Martin's beautiful sound.I was able to buy all solid at Adirontop for less than $500 in Japan at that time.It's an unbelievable guitar now.

I am really interested in Eastman guitars - everyone I've heard sounds great, and they seem to extremely popular in Europe (where a Martin costs a LOT more). Blueridge are now using a polyester finish vs lacquer on the Eastman. The 40 series are beautiful (E40 D and E40 OM), with 42 style appointments and now have torrefied Adirondack tops. I've seen some comparison videos from Europe but I prefer your reviews (you're not trying to sell one)! Wish you could run these by a Martin and a few boutique guitars. Also - the new collaboration between Eastman and Bourgeoise are starting to be seen (OM and D) - tops voiced in Lewiston, have Bourgeoise headstock inlay, and MAP of about $3K!

Soundhole brace is a piece of spruce laminated instead of the little stick braces like Martin and stuff. The mahogany is from Fiji which is a South American species that was put there for that reason. Same stuff as Gibson. Great channel bro.

Just picked up an E8 OM from them last week and I was shocked at how thick the soundboard was as well I measured 3.2 mm on mine. Doesn’t seem to affect sound as much as I thought it would. Def doesn’t sound as good as my 000-28 but I will say I’m not worried about anything happening to it when traveling. And that thick top will be more forgiving on humidity conditions. Can’t beat the features and quality for the price in my opinion.

It’s fairly common practice to reinforce the guitar top around the sound hole as this is a weak area of the instrument, for example Lowden have always done this on all their instruments. Similarly, it makes good sense to reinforce the neck block, particularly under the fingerboard. String tension applies forces that will fold the instrument in on itself over time: the bridge rotates towards the headstock, and the neck towards the bridge. The lower bout of the soundboard is the critical area for sound quality and as such is the part to focus on reducing weight to make a responsive instrument.

Jeremy, like any manufacturer, Eastman has winners. I picked up an Eastman E20SS-V-sb, their varnish vintage torrified Adirondack Spruce with Rosewood B&S with Sunburst. I have played Eastman guitars for a long time now. One thing I love about the OM models they make is that they use a Gibson scale length. I have the E1 OM which is the cheapest solid wood guitar Eastman makes. It’s African Mahogany back with a maple neck. Sweet guitar for under $600. I gig the crap out of it. The other OM I have is the E3 OM and it came with an upgraded thermo cured top for free. It’s seriously impressive and again cost less than $800. Now I have some killer small body guitars that I can go to work with and not have any fear that they can’t perform!

Alvarez seems to provide a lot of bang for the money. I respect your opinion and would be interested to see what you have to say. I’ve got two Alvarez today. I believe they started making double tops, with some very thin parts, as well as parts that are doubled up. I think they're different models to these though, but those seem to open up and resonate even more - at least that was the idea. You should try reviewing some of the bourgeois guitars that are being finished by Eastman, and are therefore much more affordable.

I bought an Eastman E6 OM a few months ago and I'm very pleased with it. It feels, sounds and plays great. As easy compliment would be to say that it's a great guitar for the money, that would be inaccurate. It's just a great guitar. Very good volume and bass for an OM. A few small things: Jeremy's right, the pick guard is quite thick and it's also pretty neck heavy. Overall though, very, very good.

Hi Jeremy, I'm a Collings and a Santa Cruz user and my last two purchases were Eastmans, and I love 'em!! I'm also a major acoustic guitar nerd! so, a few things. Firstly the E10D -solid adi top (non torrefied) THREE piece (mahogany) neck Scarfed from the volute down into the neck and again on the heel. Glue is often stronger than wood - same as on my E20-"P" Now the E6-OM. Firstly we both know at the "OM" is a standard 25.4" scale, whereas the 14fret 000 is a shorter scale -24.9" The Eastman OM is an 000! Maybe that's because ..one day they'll do a 12 fret 000 - (that'd be cool!) This model has a torrefied sitka top. I'm taking this from the Eastman website - they give pretty good specs. Carry on the good work.

Great presentation as always Jeremy, both guitars look and sound great! I'm curious, I know you did the Walden Baritone guitar review. Have you tried their other guitars? In addition to my Furch Yellow Master's Choice Gc-CR, I have two Walden's, a Walden G630CE (Grand Auditorium)and Walden O550E (OM) and they are really nice guitars and very affordable yet play and sound like much more expensive guitars! In fact I purchased the G630CE over the Taylor 214CE and the combined price of both of my Waldens is about the price of just the Taylor 214CE. I did videos on them (individually and a side by side). However I'm mostly a singer-songwriter not a content creator. I would love to see you present their Natura and Supranatura guitars because you do such a great job!! My Walden's are my go-to guitars for gigs, writer's nights, open mics, because they sound great acoustically and amplified. Frankly many of those situations are tight in terms of space and I've had other people's headstocks whack into the top of my guitar. So there's no way I'm risking my Furch when my Waldens do such a great job!!

I picked up a used mint condition E10D-TC a couple months ago and love the tone. It also has that slight burst on the back. Mine has a flamed mahogany back and sides, something I had never seen before, and gorgeous. The tortoise binding really goes well with the mahogany color. Unlike yours, mine has a gloss headstock. I have no idea why Eastman would switch to satin. Your reaction tells me that change was a mistake. Also, the nut and saddle on mine are bone, not tusq. Now that Dana Bourgeois is involved with Eastman, I wonder if you are experiencing some of his influence? The easy way to tell would be if it has a bolt neck but that being said, I have a rosewood E20D-TC that allegedly came from the Dana Bourgeois collaboration that has a set neck so that may not be a guaranteed discriminator. Those no-name tuners are 18:1 ratio. Not bad tuners but if you want 21:1 ratio and have the coin, Waverly tuners will drop right in.

Since American manufacturers are pricing themselves out of the normal working musicians budget, these are a great option. I've seen Martin, Gibson (particularly) , not to mention the boutique guys, raise their prices to rediculous levels. When I can't by a decent American made guitar without the price starting with a 4, 5, 6, 7, they are way beyond the average working musician. They are driving us away man.

Martin DX2E is only $600 dollars and sounds better than the all siris wood D13 for more than double the price. I have had the original American Made DX1 for over 20 years and it still plays great. What I dislike about alot of these chinese manufacturers I find they always need fretwork and just feel very uncomfortable. For someone with the tools and knowhow to do a major setup I guess they are a great deal. Only thing I can do is maybe turn the truss rod and lower the saddle lmao. But when frets are uneven thats not even an option for me. I just returned an all moahogany fender po-220e that is raved about. And sure it sounded decent. but had high frets, smelled like pure poison, and was even giving me a rash on my arm everything was so damn sharp edged on it. The frets didn't even look like they were dressed at all. Noone 3even sells this eastmans except one store 2 hours away from me. and I guess reverb? ya no tks I'm not taking a chance. From youtube videos they don't have enough bass for me. I might consider a yamaha chinese made if I can find one to play in person. otherwise no tks. Cheapest Martin or Taylor for me.

Jeremy, you are probably mistaken about the thickness of the soundboard of the Eastman's I've just checked on my own Eastman E2 OM. At first glance the soundboard seems rather thick. However, there is an extra, very narrow layer of wood around the soundhole. Protection maybe ? The rest of the soundboard is actual approximately the same thickness as the soundboard of my Furch Red Pure SR. And comparing the 2 guitars: The Eastman sounds fantastic for a guitar costing 450 $. The Furch sounds even better and more refined than my Eastman. It should - It's cost 7 times as much as the Eastman. And I can use the Eastman in venues where I wouldn't risk to take my Furch.😅

If your gonna review guitasr you should be knowledgeable. The guitars are not overbuilt, just solid as you can tell from the volume, and great tone! They are hand built and tops are tuned. Also the tops are graduated and they use thicker "graduated tops with lighter thinner bracing". There is more thickness around the soundhole with a laminated ring for strength and wear, great idea for big strummers! Eastman has some of the most comfortable necks around, either for a beginner or the pro. All solid woods, ebony, MOP. BTW it's real mahogany from Central/ S. America, or Mexico, not Khaya, Sapele or Utile. Great cases...excellent craftsmanship and KILLER prices...They sound and play great, with superb neck sets and great saddle height, no one touches them for now.

I've tried a couple Eastman (E20OM, E20D-TC Adirondack) and while they are impressive guitars for the price, I gave up trying to talk myself into the idea that they were Martin replacements. They just aren't (in my opinion). I own a Martin HD28 Reimagined, a Taylor 562ce 12-fret 12 string, and a Kenny Hill New World player series classical, each of which is hard to beat in their class. Bottom line, for me, the extra money to own the best guitar you can afford is always worth it.

They also have a 000 version too. I'm not a fan of the neck profile (deep V with volute) but everything else I like. They all have mahogany necks with Rosewood fretboard and bridges. Bone nut and saddles but plastic pins I'm sure they would send you a demo to try out. You have a great channel with a lot of subs and views.

Weirdly Eastman's OMs are not full scale, they are 24.9" Martin 000 scale? You're correct about the thickness of the top adjacent to the soundhole. My E1OM is the same, but I'm not sure about the rest of the top feeling or being particularly thicker? The meat and potatoes OMs and dreads are great but the 00s and the 0 parlours look to be a step up again for their price. Lefties? Not many 😩

I found a used, beaten up eastman ac808 on someone's attic and paid 950 euro's for it. It was beaten up, but played and sounded gorgeous. One of my favorite guitars ever, and definitly best value out of all my guitars. It was the top of the line model back when those were made, so no shortage in quality! I for some reason sold it a while back, and I definitly regret that decision! That guitar convinced me of eastman to the point I always recommend it to people along with furch. Infact, I'm considering the bourgeois touchstone as I'm looking for another guitar and it being made by eastman and dana, makes it seem like a dream to me.

In my experience the top on Eastmans is only double thickness in a small ring around the soundhole. Presumably to avoid splitting. The rest of the top (i.e. 99% of it) is of normal thickness.

Commenting from the UK: Although I love my Martin HD28V, I'm an electric guitar player so you may choose to discount my comments... I own an Eastman 'LP Junior' and an Eastman 'ES335', so apologies to Eastman for not quoting the correct model numbers. That said, my two Eastmans are of Gibson Custom-Shop quality in every respect. But more than anything, it's clear that quality coming out of Eastman is 'PRS-consistent'.

I have the E6 OM TC. I have owned Martin 00015. The Eastman is very good and represents a good value, no question. The only negative for me are the frets; while well crowned and smooth ended, they are a little on the speed bump side. But the money I can spend on a luthier job to correct that would probably still have me coming out with more change than spending on a new Martin. Not that you will go wrong with a Martin!

I have an E20 OM and an AC308ce Ltd. Both wonderful guitars that sound outstanding. The strings seem to vibrate forever. I can’t even play my Yamaha FG 830 anymore because it sounds horrible compared to my Eastmans. Eastman is not a high volume, “churn them out” brand. They are handmade in China in a dedicated facility then shipped to their shop in California where the guitars are set up and inspected before shipping to dealers in the USA. Yes, the pick guards are thick. I removed the one on my 308.

Hmmmm, well I have two I purchased new and another used… E8om tc & e10ss v both new & they are beautiful instruments well put together…but…I’m not sure who to blame or if I should blame anyone, both had multiple high frets & nuts that needed attention to stop the buzzing. That being said & after corrections were made they play great but I’m thinking of selling the E8om tc cuz I’m not liking the neck width, to narrow. Very nice guitars & if your thinking of getting one do it quickly cuz it seems as though prices are increasing as word is getting out. The other one is the semi-hollow body es335 imposter… I like it, heavy as hell but I like it for $1200. beans . Peace out my brother! Great videos…

I have owned a vintage Gibson and played others , but decided on an Eastman E20ss to set up as an all rounder gigging guitar that i would not have to stress about getting the odd knock or scratch. I am absolutely blown away by the Eastman both build quality and the enormous sound. It has such a dynamic range that i just do not hear in other guitars. Certainly not about bashing brands , but i will definitely say the Eastman has opened my eyes to what a real quality guitar should should look and sound like.

Clarification: Eastman is not an American company,(Ovation), or a Japanese company,(Yamaha / Takamine), building their entry level guitars in a Chinese CNC automated factory. It is a Chinese company hand building high quality instruments in China. I have been in the factory in Beijing, and talked to craftsmen who had worked there for over a decade. These are stellar guitars that actually sell “street price” for less in the USA than in China.

@@JeremySheppard So you stopped in to see Johnny Chapman and the crew at the Acoustic Shoppe. I like that they geared away from nitrocellulose to polyethylene because they know how to put it on thin like nitrocellulose so tone is just the same with polyethylene the way they are doing it. It’s way more durable against scratches etc. I’ve had my e6dtc alpine spruce top acoustic for almost 3 years now and it’s got the polyethylene finish and not one scratch anywhere and I play a lot everyday and man it’s a cannon with an awesome tight focus tone

Agree about the Blueridge, although spite of having a lovely 1951 Southern Jumbo, I play the Blueridge 90% of the time And I bought it second-hand for €200! Never tried an Eastman guitar, but I have a mid-range Eastman mandolin (515) that I much prefer over a much more expensive Weber. In fact, I'm selling the Weber to buy an 815 Eastman. I dunno why people are fixated on established brand names that they pay many time the price for. Also, I fell the standards have slipped with a couple of American well-known brands. It should be about the sound and feel. Not the nationality

I don't think that the tops are thick, it is probably just a reinforcement around the soundhole, no ? Eastman are - most of the time - much better sounding than a Gibson, a Taylor or a Martin in the same price bracket. The sound is really good most of the time, but with the handcrafted and high volume production, some are suffering from QC issues (they are much more handmade than their US counterpart). Yet, I do not like them because their nut width is most of the time too small for my tastes, like most asian import guitars, even if they are much better made than most of those. I do think that the current Guild USA made guitars are still better sounding most of the time than the Eastman, and the rest of the US brands. I think that the Guilds are better bang for the buck than most of their competitors (which is normal have they have to offset their lack of brand recognition compared to Martins or Gibsons...).

@fishersrow
@fishersrow Жыл бұрын
First of all I'm not an Eastman fan. They are indeed "good guitars for the money" but that's it and sound wise they are not Martins or Taylors but I played a few Eastman Slope Shoulders and in my opinion they are better sounding guitars than any Slope Shoulder Gibsons. I compared an E20ss (Adirondack top/Rosewood back and sides) An E10SS and an E10SSV both mahogany back and sides and they blew every SS Gibson away in the shop, even the vintage reissue ones. I would love to love Gibson but their guitars are just not worth anywhere near the money they charge as they sound mediocre to me and really good sounding Gibsons are few and far between. The build quality on the Eastmans is every bit as good if not better than any Gibson so you really should check them out if you're in the market for an SS. Eastman have a new E20SSV Adirondack spruce top with an antique varnish sunburst finish that just looks incredible and is half the price and twice the guitar of any new standard J45 or Rosewood version. Gibson have been relying on their brand name and history for far too long and haven't produced a good guitar in years. They should be very nervous about Eastman Slope Shoulder guitars.
