It was certainly a wolf Ben saw, and River reacted to, white and gray, big, inquisitive. You need to train River to sharp single word commands for situations like this. Great video, loved the views over the valley.

Hello just to say my friend has a small farm they have a retired sheep dog they also have hens and ducks and geese the collie puts the hens in to there house at night the dog lade the owner to a ditch where the duck had laid eggs dogs are kool 👍

Good to have you 3 back on YT after what sounds like a very tough few months. I meant to comment after you first got River but kept forgetting. We recommend you guys get an invaluable app called alltrails for find walks, swimming spots, mtb rides etc. The topography is excellent all over Europe for navigating walks and is especially useful for spotting up coming roads to put the dogs safely back on lead. There is a free version but we pay about 18£ a year so that we can download maps for offline use in the middle of nowhere. Even if you're making up your own walk download a nearby trail for the map to work offline. All the best and happy Vanning!

There is a special tool for removing ticks and they should be removed with a gentle twist and pull technique. Have fun.

Just to add, the tick tool allows you to twist and then pull the tick out. Once ticks are established, if you pull them the head can break off, remain in the skin and cause infection. Good to hear you’re in France. After a similarly terrible few months (parked in a noisy driveway in Surrey during lockdown) I too am in France. Been travelling for last month and it’s been phenomenally hot the whole time. Hoping to find somewhere here to call home eventually having sold my home in UK a few weeks before the pandemic took off. Hope you have a good journey. Weirdly I’ve not seen a single UK campervan since I arrived in France almost four weeks ago. Lovely vlog. You both look so content and relaxed. River is getting so big 💗 I will be traveling solo with my pup once my van is complete and I think I would have felt uneasy in that spot by myself 😂😱 especially with wolves around. Allways remember wolves travel in packs so be extra safe and keep that lil pupper safe . But generally they will stay away from you unless there in a large pack which I very much doubt they will be by you guys . Nice drone footage as well ben 5 start mate

You're right Neil! We're pretty sure the wolf that came into camp was probably a lone wolf, just curious about the smells coming from the van. If Ben hadn't been outside we would never have even known it was there! It is a bit of a risky time to start travel, now that the Corona virus is advancing every day again. Many parts of a country and cities within yhose countries are going again in a lockdown. It's not only the elderly who are getting hospitalised, youngsters also. Enjoy traveling.

Hey Chris. Unfortunately it's a difficult time wherever we are. If we stay back in the UK, we have to stay on our parents driveways and we are coming into contact with so many more people that way. At least here, we can be away from the crowds and not come into contact with anyone. France is set up for camper vans & motorhomes with water and electricity everywhere if we need it. Unlike the UK where it's almost impossible to wild camp for prolonged periods of time. But we're keeping a close eye on the news and will be responsible whatever happens x Chesca

Really liked your video, now back into Europe!! , you can get the van converted to air con ,very expensive but might be worth it if you travel a lot in hot countries and intend to keep it a long time. Properly cheaper to get a conversion in europe than in the uk due to exchange rates?

Wolves are only dogs and dogs react to other dogs in the pack. Dogs are territorial and will defend their territory if necessary. However they can also have a home range that is much larger than their territory and react to other dogs or packs of dogs they come across in that home range. There are many wild or free living dogs around that also display the same social structures. The wolf may have been one of those or a neighbouring farmers pet. Your dog was reacting to another canine or other animal it saw as a threat.

...never wrong to listen to your doggo...something funny though-talk about being idiots haha... my husband and I decided to hike to watch sunrise...tea and blankets on a rise above a lake -very dark...we suddenly see two distinctly large dark shapes moving a few yards away in forest...well free grazing cows from neighboring Indian reservation....cows in forest not expected-glad we never ran to tell anyone 🌲🐮🌲sooo glad y’all err on the side of caution-criticism be damned ...happy y’all are back 🤍🌾

Haha that's brilliant, Ben and I would be exactly the same! I mean, cows are big and if you're not expecting to see them, then your imagination would go wild! We got spooked in Iceland at night by a sheep coughing 😂 The wolf definitely spooked us a little, but I'm just so glad Ben saw it, otherwise River would have been off-lead the rest of the evening, and that doesn't bear thinking about! xx Chesca

Great vid and nice to see you back on form. Where you are in France is stunning. River looks brill and is growing into such a gorgeous dog. I was concerned about where you get your water from, partially answered by the fountain but longer term would be a concern. Same for the gas as well What apps, if any, do you use to source?

Ah thank you so much, yeah River is really growing up isn’t she?! Water we get some water taps. Here in France they are plenty, all marked as drinkable too. In fact, France is a dream for camper vans! Worst case we can always buy bottled water from the shop. We just refill our LPG bottle from petrol stations along the way ☺️ x

Hey! Pretty sure France is fine to get into. There is a 2 week quarantine for people come back into the UK from France, so that might be something you want to bear in mind. Otherwise it’s just a case of travelling responsibly. Best of luck! Xx Chesca

I thought the French had the same rules as the UK now in that you had to quarantine for 14 days on entering the country? They said they would do like for like when we brought it in for peeps coming into the Uk from France.

Hi Tim, no not at all! France haven't imposed a quarantine on UK travellers and I'm pretty sure they said they wouldn't. But, obviously things are changing daily so who knows! x Chesca

Not the view of the wolf/dog but following you in the wood could be sanglier (wild boar), possibly more dangerous than wolves. They would probably spook River.

Beware the sanglier! You are more likely to come across wild boar in the woods than wolves. They won't like River! Take care. Wolves will run away. Boar are far more aggressive.
