To anyone upset by the title on this video I would say 5 things: 1. I’m sorry the title upset you it was not my intention and I was not aware of the political significance associated with this term 2. Try to relax, it’s just a video and you should watch it instead of just reacting to a title (particularly my conversation with the old man at the end) 3. I would also call Kashmir governed by Pakistan a disputed territory as it is stated on wikipedia for each part of Kashmir. They are / were disputed whether each side like it or not (including China part) - one party cannot unilaterally decide that a dispute does not exist, it is possible to assert both that Kashmir is an integral part of India and also accept that there is a dispute with other parties, these are not mutually exclusive statements 4. I’m not taking sides in any of this, the word disputed is very different from the word occupied which I did not use purposefully 5. no, I won’t be changing the title✌🏻I won’t be bullied or cowed by threats, hopefully that is a characteristic most will admire despite our disagreement on the use of this term PS - I’ve added a question mark ? so it’s an open question rather than a statement of fact

@@philbland Not just so called "Azad kashmir" is called POK here in India but All of Gilgit-baltistan area in Pak side is also called POK as well Which They illegally occupied back in 1947 (just months after independence) by sudden attack despite King of Jammu & Kashmir signed whole region or state as Part of Republic of India but just for greed of Water & other resources of J&K Pakistanis argued by their illogical excuse that it's majority muslim populated so it should join with pakistan. Hi Phil. Just came across your vlog “First Impression of Kashmir” and had to watch as I am from there. Realised you had not planned in advance and just blindly trusted some agency, you mentioned a few times in your vlog. Unfortunate they don’t themselves (most often) know for real and just guide you based on heard stories. I hope you are having a great time in Kashmir….. most parts of the info you got in the cab from airport isn’t right or partially right. Unverified information unfortunately misleads others too who follow your vlog. Just a few thing 1) in the airport cab the lady tried to tell you about best food (waazwan). Please remember waazwan isnt a dish but a whole feast …. 7-25+ dishes 2) I am sure you may have realised, the tuk tuk guy mentioned the best dish Shalimar, but poor guy didn’t understand your English…. Shalimar is a Mughal era garden just off the banks of Dal Lake where you stayed. 3) Best thing pick one local as your guide for advise. I think Adil the houseboat owners son was guiding you well. I usually suggest a single taxi driver the whole time. Kashmiri’s feel proud of culture and heritage so tour guide is free 😊 4) The Kashmiri tea you had isn’t the real Kashmiri tea. Adil said the right thing that @kehwa is Kashmiri herbal tea. The real Kashmiri tea come with milk and salt, no sugar and is pink in colour. I like to travel too, but don’t vlog. I have been to Scotland a few years ago. I had it planned so well in advance…. I wonder if I missed anything there 😜 Best wishes for your remaining time in Kashmir and a very happy and safe journey wherever you travel

The house boat owner does not know the history. In pre-1947 era, Kashmir was ruled by a King (Raja) who was subservient to British colonialists in Delhi. The Raja had put an embargo on any non-local (from outside the princely state) to purchase #land in Kashmir; but allowed the British to own houseboats on #water. The intial houseboats were put in Jhelum river followed by Dal lake and Nageen Lake; and the first boats were built by a Kashmiri Hindu contractor and local carpenters under supervision of the British.

Indian people here in comments are saying that Kashmir is not a dispute. Irony is that it was India who actually brought this issue internationally and made it a dispute. Doesn't matter if they now accept it or not, it's an internationally recognized dispute. Also, Indians say that Pakistan occupied the territory of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. While actually, revolt was already started in many regions of Jammu and Kashmir, when Dogra Raja Harri Singh decided to remain independent. Indians should know that British government actually sold Kashmir to Dogra Raja Gulab Singh but majority people in Jammu and Kashmir were strongly against Dogra raj. There was even movement in Kashmir to get freedom from Dogra rule. So in 1947, there was a big revolt in different regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Dogra army started to massacre muslims in Jammu region. (Until 1947, Jammu was Muslim majority district but due to Genocide by Dogra army, its demography changed and then it became muslim minority city). Then, Pakistan started to support revolt in Kashmir against Dogra army in 1947. Just read about Poonch revolt. Pakistan started military support to Poonch revolt. Raja Hari Singh started losing its territory. So, Raja asked help from India to save his empire and India asked him to join India in order to get help from Indian army. He did so. After which, Indian army came in Kashmir in October 1947, which is still celebrated as black day by many Kashmiris. As now, fight between Pakistan and Dogra army turned into fight between India and Pakistan. So, India went to UN and this is how, it became an international dispute. At start, Indian government promised Kashmiris and Pakistan that they will solve Kashmir issue by democratic means. But later, they betrayed Pakistan and Kashmir. Until mid 1950s, Indian government never said vocally that Kashmir is integral part of India. From mid 1950s, they started this stance and gradually became more vocal about it. Due to change in attitude of India regarding Kashmir issue, Pakistan started operation Giberalter, which led to 1965 Ind-o-Pak war. Most of Indians say that Raja Hari Singh signed document of accession to join India. They should know that Junagarh and Manavadar also signed documents of accession to join Pakistan but Indian army occupied both princely states. Nizam of Hyederabad Deccan also wanted to remain independent, but indian army occupied that princely state too...By that logic, we should not consider areas of these pricely states as part of India... Also, Indian minister Sardar Patel was also in favour of Kashmir to be part of Pakistan because of its demography being muslim majority region. Because the whole point of partition was to separate muslim majority regions of British India from remaining British India. Indians should also realize that people in Gilgit-Baltistan were forcibly putted under Kashmir's Dogra raj, they are strongly against to be part of Kashmir and want to maintain their own identity seperated from Kashmir that's why, Pakistan have divided its administered Kashmir into Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Also People of Gilgit Baltistan celebrate there freedom day on 1st November when Gilgit Baltistan got freedom from Kashmir's Dogra empire and came under administration of Pakistan as an autonomous region. Denying the issue doesn't solve problem. It makes it worse. It's simple, just conduct a plebiscite and let people of disputed region to decide its future. Referendum can be conduct in different regions of Kashmir separately to have opinion from each region separately.

When India became independent, Pakistan attacked Kashmir, then the king of Kashmir sought help from the Government of India and merged Kashmir into the Republic of India. After that, the Indian army started driving back the Pakistanis. And Pakistan's army was driven back from half of Kashmir, but in the meantime the United Nations came in the middle and asked both countries to maintain status quo and find a solution to Kashmir. Here's the info I got from my research by looking into declassified files of British MI, CIA, London Lib archives etc: • Historically, the name Kashmir itself comes from the Hindu sage Rishi Kashyap as it's been a part of India for thousands of years. • Be it under Hindu rulers or Muslim rulers, Jammu & Kashmir was always a part of India before Britishers came to India and colonized it. There was no Pakistan to begin with back then. • Jammu & Kashmir was also officially registered and addressed by the Queen and her Viceroys as an Indian princely state under the British rule. • India got freedom in 1947 and Pakistan was created in 1947 by the British after partitioning India. • Every Princely state in India had to sign to join either India or Pakistan but the Hindu King of Jammu-Kashmir desired to remain neutral and thus requested for extra time. • It's to be noted that British created this formal agreement due to Pakistan as everything including Pakistan was a part of India before 1947 for thousands of years. • The majority population of Jammu & Kashmir was of Hindus as Ladakh too was a part of Jammu & Kashmir and hence the King was Hindu (Hari Singh). Kashmir's majority population was of Muslims but it's to be noted that Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh were all a single state at the time of Independence hence the Hindu majority. • But Pakistan could no longer wait and sent their own Military and Mujahideens to conquer Jammu & Kashmir illegally and create a deliberate uprising against the Hindu King of Kashmir. The Pakistani General who planned it has also mentioned it his book "Raiders in Kashmir" and Pakistan has also accepted this in the UN. • The Hindu King of J&K then signed Instrument of Accession and merged J&K with India legally and officially. It was also officially signed besides the Britishers who overlooked it. Britian thus accepted this agreement of J&K being a part of India again. • Then the Indian army was dispatched to drive out the Mujahideens and Pakistani army outside of Kashmir. • The Indian PM Nehru went to UN to condemn this aggression of Pakistan but UN under the Influence of British and USA deliberately used it to create a status of disputed territory although its shouldn't have been as British themselves previously agreed upon the Kashmirs accession to India. • The USA and British backstabbed India cuz they needed Pakistan to counter USSR in Afghanistan. • So the area till which Indian army drove out the Pakistani Infiltrators became the Indian Kashmir due to UN ceasefire. Thus, Kashmir got partitioned as some of the areas still remain on the Pakistani side now called as Pakistan occupied kashmir. • India would've taken back the entire Kashmir had UN deliberately not annouced the ceasefire. • It's called a disputed territory because there's an LOC(Line of actual control) and not a border. • UN resolutions said that Pakistan has to vacate the illegally occupied Kashmiri territory and give it back to India for India to hold a plebiscite. • Pakistan hasn't still vacated the territory and then Indian PM Nehru condemned UN for worsening the matter. He said "I had only asked UN to stop Pakistan's aggression but they instead used to call it a disputed territory although it's not. They misrepresented my position." • Lastly, Pakistan initiated 4 wars with India to claim the remaining Kahsmir which isn't theirs. • India was hurt that the west was supporting an Islamic military dictatorship of Pakistan instead of a Democratic India. • Pakistan lost all the wars with India and signed agreements like Lahore and Shimla agreements wherein it accepted India's position. • After 9/11, USA realised that it's support to Taliban and Pakistan had backfired and then they tried to take India's position. • Pakistan realised that it cannot win a conventional war with India so it uses terror outfits to attack Kashmir like Lashkar-e-toiba, Jaish-e-muhammad, Hizbul Mujahideen, Resistance front etc. • Pakistan was successful in Killing and driving out the Hindu and Sikh population from Kashmir via their initial illegal operation in 1947. • This was done so that when plebiscite happens, the remaining muslims will vote for Islamic state of Pakistan. • Pakistan also deliberately gifted the part of J&K called as Aksai Hind (now called as Aksai Chin) to China. • Nonetheless, India had a legal and official document of Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India....even historically too. • China used this opportunity to destabilize India via Pakistan. • West used this issue to keep it's stronghold in Afghanistan via Pakistan. • Russia and Israel came to help India realising the issue. • As Afghanistan is no longer important to USA and the west like before, they now prefer India to counter China. I was posted in Kashmir know her and her people. Kashmir means Kashmir Valley and it is a part of the original diverse Jammu and Kashmir State. Kashmir Valley other than Kashmiris has various non-Kashmiri tribes (for example the boat-people are a non-Kashmiri tribe; very smart and kind) and the Sikhs came from the Punjab and Jammu. Who are the Kashmiris? They are Aryan Central Asians most converted to Semitic-Islam from Kashmiri Hindus. Is Kashmir a disputed territory? The only dispute is the part of this State which tiny Pakistan occupies illegally. When mighty (now a genuine superpower) India gets an effective leader this shall be liberated and join India. Since Kashmiris are distinct in looks it is indeed a howler when you ask a non-Kashmiri girl whether she is a Kashmiri? She is a smart girl but surely not a Kashmiri. India is very diverse and a very united country as well. Thus enjoy India and work for the liberation of Tibet which China occupies illegally.
