One more history fact about Niš is that it was War capital of Serbia during WW1, since Belgrade was occupied by Austria-Hungary, government and all officials and royalty moved to, and operated from Niš. Command of Serbian Army is also located in Niš for that matter ( I dont know if thats the real cause but it sure is a nice symbolic). In more recent history, Niš was the place where downfall of Milosevic regime started, with longest protest of people and Serbian Army generals refusing the command to use force to stop the protests. Nice vlog btw, hope you had great time ✌🏻😁

Hehheh, you guys are so cute. Rakija doesn't really come in a range from super expensive to cheap, like whiskey. When you're asked what kind of rakija you want, the question is about which flavour you prefer - which fruit you want your rakija to be made from. Sljivovica = plum Loza = grape Dunjevaca = quince Kruskovaca = pear Viljamovka = williams pear Dudovaca = mulberry Kajsijevaca = apricot Smokvovaca = fig Jabukovaca = apple And then there are the ones with added flavourings: Travarica = herbal Orahovaca = walnut Medovaca = honey Visnjevaca = sour cherry When comes to quality, unless you know to ask for a specific brand, it'll just depend on the quality of the restaurant itself, and the price will be roughly the same whichever flavour you choose. Good rakija is plentiful and comparatively inexpensive, so there's little reason for any halfway decent establishment to serve cheap swill. The only places where I've encountered that is in tourist traps. Any halfway decent place that serves locals couldn't get away with serving "brlja" (=poor quality rakija). Of course, the very best, most prized rakija is the rare home-made batch, brewed by someone who really knows their stuff, out of the best, sweetest and ripest fruit, and that you won't normally find in any restaurant. So when you're in Serbia, just ask for rakija by the fruit you want to try. Personally, I'm partial to loza, and I can't even stand the smell of sljivovica, but to each their own. Try the liqueurs as well, if you like sweet drinks.

Gerald, my comment was not a howl. We are proud of our history. This creator of this great video presented the Skulp Tower and also a Koncentration Camp so I just wanted to complete his historical presentation as I felt it would be a right thing to do in honour to the people who fought for freedom. We don't hate the rest of the world because of bombing. It is a history, the recent one, and we kind of learn to see it through a wider perspective. But if you ever expirienced a bomb attack while playing basketball as an 17 year person, well you would be welcome to bi in this discssion, otherwise, no I don't think so. That was good to see the original hometown of the Emperor Constantine 1750 years ago. I bet it's changed since then, though the old boy could probably still recognise a few bits here and there. I'm surprised our Orthodox friends haven't made more of a fuss over the town. After all they call him "St Constantine, Equal to the Apostles" and he's a huge figure in the Orthodox churches. He was buried in Constantinople in the Church of the Apostles, but both the church and his remains are no longer there.

Actually, the NIS fortress was built in the 2nd Century by Celts ( who had decided to name it NAISSUS). Later, it was succeeded by the Roman Empire who gave it to the local Dardanian people and finally the South Slavs (Serbs to be precise) who had managed to conquer it somewhere around the beginning of the 7th Century. Ottomans have only extended the fortress walls in the 18th Century. If the Ottomans had created the whole fortress by themselves you wouldn't be able to see the old basilica remains (which is the part of Ancient Roman Infrastructures inside the complex). Anyways, i wanted to thank you for the amazing content and for promoting our local treasure, the city of Nis with its features. Hope you will decide to come again one day. Thumbs up!

There's so manz more you guys didn't catch on to, but I hope you will when you get back again :D Nish (not Nisht) has it's traditional Beer Brewery, it's the Нишко beer (sold in the USA), wine from the village Sićevo and the whole Sićevo Gorge (with Balajnica cave, cave with oldest human remainings found in the whole Europe couple of years ago - Google it :D) are to try and see, old Latin church and the Monument of Čegar, northeast of the city, where that battle the Skull-Tower is about actually happened. The Niška Banja (Spa eastern of Niš - direct buss or taxi ride from the Skull Tower, at some 5-6km of distance) is a spa with naturally radioactive spring water, used for rheumatic issues. Many, many more, waiting to be discovered, and that was just the highlights about Niš only. Yeah, forgot the Pantelejska church, in whose church yard area the great Friedrich I Barbarosa and Serbian ruler of that time, Stefan Nemanja, founder of the Nemanjić dynasty met each other, during Barbarosas trip to the Crusade War. As I said, many, many more. Please take your time in Serbia, it is full of historical heritage, great sights and scenes and lots of organic, traditional, natural and full-flavour food that you can hardly find of that quality and aroma anywhere. In Nis,you don't have much buildings like that,you have old parts, fortress but across the river you can see new part,center of the city. And coming there by the river on Friday and Saturday night when it's nice and warm, it's literally the best thing you could ever do. I watched a lot of videos of famous vloggers about the Nis, but no one was able to present this city in its most positive light. Nis is a city of great history and great wars, struggles and sufferings of the Serbian people, and that should always be presented to tourists who visit this city to see that what is presented to them on television is not true, but this city should not be evaluated by that. Basically, all vloggers are sad when they film Skull Tower and Concentration camp, so one gets the impression that this is a sad city and Niš has a lot of positive things to offer. They are generally all held by historical monuments, fortresses and other attractions and no one notices the best in Nis and these are people who live in it. First of all, the food is fantastic, there are hundreds of cafes with great food and music. People are very cordial and positive and ready to help strangers. This is the first video I watched Nis without being presented in a slightly more positive light. I would recommend you to take a walk to Chair Park or St. Sava Park to see how sociable people are and how much they socialize, drink coffee and beer and how much they are smiling. Total fail. Sorry about that! We come from a city called Toronto where locals don't pronounce the 2nd T. So it's said like Toronno basically. Actually food capital of Serbia should be Leskovac ,smaller city not far from Nis . In September every year they have one of the biggest barbeque food festival in Europe . In 2021 they probably made biggest burger in the World on that festival . Burger (Serbian pljeskavica) was made from 67 kg of meat . Festival goes every year for one week in September with hundreds of burger vendors and lot of music on the streets of Leskovac . Cheers from Canada.

The whole area is known for good food. Pirot, Knjazevac, Leskovac, Vranje. But the best city for everyone is convincingly Nis. It has the most restaurants with traditional cuisine, and that you visit every day can't get bored of how good the food is. And not all cities in Serbia together offer such gastronomic pleasure as Nis offers. Nis is also the best in terms of fast food as they are now eating and street grilling. And there is also the well-known bakery Anton, where the best burek in the country is made.

Top 3: Novi Sad Belgrade Niš But the most delicious food you will find in Niš.
@djdox24253 жыл бұрын
Definitely the best city for tourists is Nis. The city where they can enjoy and feel the true spirit of Serbia the most, and which offers the most traditional restaurants of Serbian cuisine, as well as where you can see the most historical and cultural monuments related to our country. Nis is better than Belgrade in that respect, and not to mention other cities.
@martius0213 жыл бұрын
@@djdox2425 of course that's your personal opinion and I respect that but I don't share it with you. I had quite nice time there but Novi Sad left the biggest impression on me.
@djdox24253 жыл бұрын
@@martius021 In the last couple of years, it has not been as fun as it used to be in Belgrade. However, Belgrade is much more dominant. But I agree that Novi Sad is beautiful. I have listed the things that Nis is best to visit. And he has the greatest soul in that regard. Novi Sad's guard in the north has an extremely high standard, while Nis occupies the southern part has an extremely low standard. It's a matter of taste, but they are incomparable in those parameters. These are three different cities and each should be visited, because each is beautiful and valuable in its own way.
@JetLagWarriors3 жыл бұрын
This is a good top 3! Our might be a little different, but all of those cities are certainly worth visiting. That being said, we have a lot more places left to see here in Serbia... so lots of time to make new favorites :)
@djdox24253 жыл бұрын
@@JetLagWarriors That's right, buddy. Top 3 cities definitely worth a visit. By the way, there are also food in Pirot, Knjazevac, Vranje, Leskovac, Uzice, Cacak, Valjevo ... There are other beautiful cities such as Krusevac, Kraljevo, Kragujevac, Loznica... You should go and try in Uzice "KOMPLET LEPINJA". It was created in that city and it is the brand of the city of Uzice. Two places are my recommendation "Kod Suljage" (where it was created), and the other place is "BLUE MOON". "BLUE MOON" can be found in several places in Uzice, and in addition to "komplet lepinja", they also have burek, but "komplet lepinja" is a specialty. From there you can take a cheap taxi and go from Uzice to Mackat (village towards Zlatibor), there you can try perhaps the best roast lamb in the country. The restaurant where you should try it is "Kod Baje".

There are most definitely some dark times back in history, but today, we have to try to judge people by how they behave today. This doesn't mean forget, as some people think, but to treat todays people as they are today. Basically treat people as people, as your wide travels prove, time and time again. It reminded me of Groundhog day, when Steve popped out of that hole. Ice hockey? one of our friends in Slovenia played for the National Yugoslavia Ice hockey team. He is now the owner of a cafe / ice cream shop/ Slaščičarna in Kranjska Gora. He was Semi retired last time we visited. He's a real tough character but if you know him a very funny guy. He was top scorer for his league team in Jesenice many times. It would be great if you can return to the are and visit more of the Former Jugoslav countries. Don't see you guys really try too many cakes, they have one called Kremšnita in Slovenia which is amazing.The one in the cafe in Kranjska gora is one of the best.

Nish.. Niš to pronounce like Nish.. not Nisht.. (and story about "skull tower" is not about general Sinđelić.. he did not doing anything "on his own".. it's about Serbian collective bravery and heroism and unity we, as Serbs, represent.. some of us at least! Specifically from Niš coz we are very hard local patriot's.. But for yours 2 days you done quite well.. It could be a good Serb's from you two. :) Lot's of love and hugs from city of Niš, Serbia..
