After I left the military, I managed to get what was the best job in the world. Driving tourists around the highlands, mainly Americans and Canadians nearly all had some Scottish ancestry. I always felt that I had passed through a time warp whilst driving up the highland boundary fault line. After Glasgow and Edinburgh, the highlands just seemed to be so chilled and the itinerary never put pressure on you to put the foot down. The days seemed to be longer and you had more time to show our happy tourists some hidden gems that weren't on the schedule. I was being paid to tour my own country with the most pleasant people you could meet from across the pond. I am so glad you both had a great time and accepted whatever weather Mother Scotland threw at you. I have had a few passengers moan if it didn't rain lol

Holy Mother of God, I can't believe you're in Scotland. I'm English but some of the happiest times of my life have been spent in Scotland, which is the most beautiful country in Europe. When we were kids we used to go up to Lewis and Harris (same island). Some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been on are there. I've had many a happy play on Bosta beach on Lewis and Luskentyre on Harris. You're the wrong time of year but in the summer the water is turquoise and the sand is white and they are so quiet you can run naked and there's no-one to see you but the sheep. Not that I'd ever do such a thing of course.

If you come back, go up to the north east and visit Orkney. Islands again, but very different. If you think 2 thousand year old stones are good, the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney is more than twice as old. We have puffins and seals and whales and amazing skies, and if you come at the end of June, it never gets completely dark - the sun does dip below the horizon, but the sunset and the sunrise blend together in one amazing twilit spectacle. There’s a strong Scandinavian influence, Orkney was under Scandinavian rule for a lot longer than it’s been part of Scotland, and the two cultures have blended into something unique.

when I hear Scotland there's nothing else comes to my mind than Outlander!!!
@donlockhart16265 жыл бұрын
Serinmary Pulikottil you should really change that. We are one of the most naturally beautiful nations in the world and have ancient towns and cities with buildings that go back 1000 years and ancient monuments and settlements which were made around 4000BC. Outlander is just a show and Iv never seen it even though I’m Scottish. I’m more of a game of thrones person. Which is all pretty much based on Scottish and English history. We have mountains of all shapes, thousands of lochs, Loch Ness has more water in it than all the lakes in England and Wales added up. We have ancient monuments, ancient forests, the only arctic plateau in the British isles, the highest mountains by far in the British isles, over 800 islands, some look like the Caribbean and some are like a miniature Iceland, we are one of the most naturally varied nations for our relatively small size. We have some of the richest histories in the world, produce the best whiskies, have oil in abundance, have clear seas and white beaches, a regal capital city with a 500 year old castle and the city centre of Edinburgh is entirely a world heritage site, the top accolade than can be handed to a city. We live on the edge of the Atlantic and have crazy weather and counter to belief you can get incredible sun here in Scotland. But due to us being on the Atlantic we get all the leftover tropical storms from the Gulf of Mexico, which makes Scotland considerably warmer than continental lands at the same latitude. We invented everything from the telephone to the TV and are a country that has stood for 1000 years. So if you love outlander, just search Scotland on wiki and have a read.! We are an amazing place. That often get overlooked.
