Just come across this short video. I’ve watched quite a few of the Helix-how-to videos from @JasonSadites and found them all really helpful. Thanks Jason!

The Helix sounds just like working in a studio. Love it...I used to have a room full of amps n mics ...no longer needed

Thanks Gents! Appreciate both of you. Loved the Helix Floor * JTV-69 combination since 2017. Thanks to y'all and applying your advice; lovin' Helix even more. Full disclosure; more than ready for Helix II. Thanks from rainy WA state.

This is a great interview and tackles the learning curve of modelers in general. Top that off with a discussion between the two leading influencers of how to set up the right tone with the Helix, and both are outstanding musicians that depend on these tools, awesome, perfect interview and great information. Thank You

When I got my Helix in 2015 I went down every rabbit hole I could. I did not want to buy presets. Between Jason, Steve and Richie I learned a whole lot about building tones. I’ve had a fair amount of experience in studios so I understood what they meant, especially what Jason was saying about subtle compression at the end of the chain. I understood that the Helix isn’t supposed to sound like a real amp….. it’s supposed to sound the the best recorded real amps which is what we’re always chasing. That Van Halen 78 or 1984 tone, Jeff Beck Wired, etc…. Thanks fellas for help me and everyone else on their journey with the Helix.

"We live in a world where we hear REFLECTIONS" perfectly illustrated what that room reverb can add 😂

MY ISSUE with HELIX is the HX EDIT.. What amp uses a SLIDER to configure?? 5 on Sliders is NOT 50 % or Flat on the bass amp sims. HX EDIT does not have ULTRA Lo or ULTRA Hi on SVT .

Even after this video I still dont know what is 57? Also he said it takes exprerience to undertand to put Room reverb at the end, or knowledge or something. But now we all know it, so is that ok or do we have to put some spesific settings to that Room reverb?
@ericvandruten3 ай бұрын
you must understand the Why of things, to know how to adjust the settings. the 57 is short for Shure SM57, the most-used instrument mic, used on cabinets. for guitar, live, ideally combine it with a second mic, for example the Sennheiser MD 421, or '421'.

The idea of a “room reverb” to “liven up the sound” doesn’t have to be a very present reverb. Think about when you’re standing on a stage and you turn the amp up. The reflections you hear are the natural reverb. Now think about how it would sound in a small room. There would still be some reflections but slight. You can dial in any amount between the two to your liking.

@@mwdanny yea thanks, I think I understand and I have tried to add it to the end off chain. But These days Ive played very tight tones without reverb or delay, like Sad But True style or even tighter since I think there is some reverb in that song. I play with this reveb thing later more.

Try and explain what 'sag' does to someone who's never played a loud tube amp.

I'd have to Google it

@@SteveSterlacci Yet you know how to dial in a sound on a tube amp, so you've dealt with it. Right?

Sag is a type of compression of an amp that you can feel in a scale from stiff to spongy. Sag happens when a turned up amp can't reproduce the signal accurately anymore because it's power supply is too small. So technically Sag is a parameter to adjust how big the virtual power supply is - practically it is [mainly power amp] compression.
