UPS dropped my amp head hard enough to crumple the panels, destroying the fuse holders. Waited for over a month and it wouldn't even fire up. Shockingly the tubes were still intact. A youtuber got a combo shipped from the same builder and his tubes were shattered.

To be fair...many of the competing modelers didn't have great initial launches. NDSP is famous for not delivering what they promised at launch for years - and those things are just NOW becoming available, more than 2 years after release. I think providing a significant update within 7 months of initial release is pretty good. I know there are many that don't like the EVH models in comparison to the real amps, but objectively they sound pretty good on their own. The Soldano sounds awesome. I think they are showing they are committed to the platform and there will be more great things to come.

I think it is 100% a workflow preference at this point. Even at pro levels, with enough prep time you can make anything work. 90% of people buying these units don't even scratch the surface of the capabilities of any of these units. They just follow what X or Y person said was a "limiting factor" while it being something completely unrelated to their playstyle or workflow lol

Good question! I've removed my personal wants and desires from the gig and focus on what the audience needs to hear and what's important/best for the show. Of course air moving behind you is cool, but you realize it's not the be all end all and I think it's a much better show for it

Hi Steve! Thanks for the vid. I’ve followed your instructions however I simply cannot replicate the press/release behaviour. It’s like it just isn’t working. I’ve made a quick vid here - VERY grateful for any advice on what is (or isn’t!) happening here. Huge thanks 🙏 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3WuYXiPhqxnhtksi=BS1--JmPWWfHE_Ri

Hey Steve, are those audio-technica headphones? Which model are they? I recently bought the A-T ATH-M40X model, they do sound great. They are advertised to run more in the Mid frequencies, and they do. Yet not sure if these are a good option to create a tone in my Helix pedalboard, as I might get mislead by the Mid range. Probably is not the best idea to use headphones to create patches.

I had this thing when it first came out. I would ask the guy at sam ash about the amp with all the effects built in and of course they didn't realize there was such a thing. Look how far they've come. Nice move to check out some of these classic gear pieces Steve.

Do not do what i did. I got so excited about this video i rushed out and downloaded the tonemaster app on my ipad and iphone and started yelling profanities due to the app refusing to connect on bluetooth. Suddenly it dawned on me in my rush i totally forgot to download and update the firmware on the Tone Master Pro as well. after that everything went great

I prefer my gear to have a proper mains lead. I hate wall warts and cheap power supplies. I don't own a Boss Katana but they finally added a XLR out on the artist series to go directly into a PA or Recording console. It didn't seem very professional when it didn't have it. The Quad Cortex has a cheap power supply. The helix has a good and easily replaceable power cord (large pedal version), so does the Fractal FM3 and FM9 along with the new Fender Tone Master Pro. To each their own, quality matters to me right along with good tone. Some of these companies need to stop being cheap and put the proper quality and needed parts in their products, they charge way too much not too. This is just my opinion. It's your money do what you want with it, but make sure you get the quality expected at these price points.

I was subscribed to your channel but after you went to Fractal I unsubbed, I don't use Fractal, and never will use fractal after an experience with a group of Fractal acolytes lead by Scott Henderson. If this is the company you chose to represent than I don't want any part of it. I was looking for vids on the new firmware and you turned up, I'll watch this vid then probably never again. I wish you well for the future.

Hey Vaughan. I respect everyone's opinion on their gear, but that issue has literally nothing to do with me and shouldn't be a reason to "leave". Im sorry you had a bad experience with their community. I have definitely had some myself. Moving on to current gear, I'm still using my HX XL on tours right now and have been regularly posting line 6 content. Fractal probably is the least represented modeler on this channel.

I have the Valeton Asphalt 20G which is pretty much the same thing with less wattage. I play a Boss GT 100 to it and into a 112 cab and it is fantastic sounding. I opted for the Valeton as it was several hundred less and is all analog. It is plenty loud for small clubs. The Quilter dies sound good though and great review video.

Honestly, it just sounds like this dude has absolutely no idea on how to use the Helix Floor, or even the HX Stomp XL when you consider the fact that he has a Stomp XL connected to the same floorboard as his H90. Thats just redundant and unnecessary. As someone who owned the Helix Floor (sold it because i needed money at the time) and currently owns an HX Stomp XL as it's replacement, i gotta say...i miss the Helix Floor. It did everything i needed and never gave me the same issues I deal with on the HX Stomp XL. If you are a simple and minimalist guitarist, who only needs a couple of effects, a modeled amp, and an EQ, then the Stomp XL will do. But if you are someone who really likes to add your own flavor with chained effects, and are the type to connect more than 4 pedals, including amp models, and perhpas IRS, then the Helix Floor is pretty much all you need. The HX Stomp XL just doesn't have the power. The Helix Floor is the same size as a floor board, and actually takes up way lay less space comparted to a stocked out floor board due to its thinner profile. I mean look at this dude's floor board and look at the helix. It is bulkier. Who wants that? But i do understand the fact that he is used to a pedal that isn't included in Helix or HX. But also, at the same time, it tells me that he really didn't fuck around with either system enough to get the sound that he likes. I have used pedals and effects in both systems that i have either never used or never liked, and have been able to reproduce the effects or sound that i was looking for. But granted, it takes some time to sit down with in order to experiment. All i can say, is that if it was me, I would take the Helix Floor over everything. It's one unit, you don't have to worry about physical chains, and it can produce any sound you are trying to get.,

Well considering I've toured with my helix floor for 5 or 6 years exclusively and have a youtube channel with well over 150 tutorials on how to use the helix shouldn't suggest I don't know what I'm doing with it lol this rig is lighter and accomodates my wireless without needing any additional cabling, plus I get to use my favorite drive pedal and not sacrifice in any way. This rig is show up and plug in and I'm done. I'm not sure where you came to your conclusion from, but I respectfully disagree with your assessment of my knowledge

Steve, thanks for these cool videos. I am a helix owner. I think you’re probably the only person out there that’s actually using the helix and recording it live. I’ve been anxious to hear live performances of the helix and how it compares with what I think a real guitar amp sounds in the same situation. it excites me to hear you play. If I was the complain at all, it would be that sometimes I can’t hear you and the voices or the violin or the keyboards are a lot louder than what I can hear on your amp sorry helix. When you were at Sweetwater, I wish you would’ve possibly did one of the songs with helix, and then experimented with guitar amp on the other two songs. But I don’t blame you. I love real amps. I just know that I’ll never go by a real expensive amp like that only have to replace tubes every six months and only get two or three real great sounds.too rich for my blood anymore lol thank you for all you do
