Brings back beautiful memories I’m a 62 year old fan of the chopper my mam and Nan god bless their souls bought me a violent one on hp I loved that bike I will get me a violent one of these mk 4s and put it in my bedroom as a reminder of wonderful times as a child my lungs are no good now to ride a bike 🥴

I had a hand me down tomahawk as a kid, then a new blue and yellow raleigh burner. Around 1992 I bought a mk2 raleigh chopper for £5 and completely restored it. I've still got it. It was a lot harder sourcing parts back then before ebay!

Very interesting info on the new Mk4 Russ A great interview with Ken. My very first Chopper was a Space Blue Christmas 1977 and a combination chain lock anyone could unlock 😂. Chopper never got stolen. Not even left out side the shop when going in for my curly wurly 😁. Mk4 is cool but not as cool as the MK2. Will I buy one. Not at the asking price that being made in Taiwan 😢 let's see how fast they sell at £950. I could be well wrong. But to high a price for me

As a kid had an ultra-violet mk2 Chopper in 1973, when I was 10. I bought another mk2 in the early 90s for 20 quid, long before the prices went crazy for these things. Problem with me being 6ft, 2in, the thing was just too small to enjoy riding it properly, so I sold it on. After all the Chopper was designed for CHILDREN. So I assume this mk4 would still be too small for me?

I was abit younger so i had a black raleigh striker which was my pride and joy. i certainly remember the choppers and grifters though and i recall seeing afew injuries when kids would break hard or hit a kerb while on a chopper and fall forward through the handle bars. infact i remember the local bobby at the time openly telling us that the choppers were too dangerous and those handle bars caused alot of injuries.

ps today im 50 and ride mountainbikes and till this day never was as comfortable to ride as my raleigh striker. what a solid easy to ride bike that was and the big padded seat was lush. every bike ive ridden since has been like sitting on a razzor blade lol

Any ideas on how true to the originals the front and back mudguards are - length, weight, underside folds etc - I was hoping for a close-up of those. I see the lip is there - how about the front tabs?

It’s been designed to be a direct switch between the old school version on the mudguards even the mk1 versions with some hole drilling tbh I don’t think the quality is as good as the original but a great effort

Great video and insight into the new Raleigh Chopper Mk4. Looks like they have done an excellent job of recreating an icon! I wonder if those mudguards are a straight swap for the original. How good are the Chrome parts on the new bike?

@@bagpuss998 The rack was on Mk2s, and it would look odd without it. Apparently, the chrome on these are very good, so I'm surprised anyone would want to change them. I'm not sure what you mean by "adjustable stem" and "drop handlebars". Surely you don't mean Chopper Sprint 'racing' handlebars?.

@@basylpeterjones no not sprint handle bars just mk1 handle bars you can adjust. Would also like to strip down the colours re spray in mustard mk1 colour with the smaller black logos may get it done if I get my hands on a new one , mk 4 with mk 1 colours and mk1 handle bars .👍

H&S were tough on the MK3, ie gear shift & seat arrangement. Two key designs of the original Chopper. Looks like they’ve been pretty lenient on the MK4 which is refreshing. Nice looking bike. But the price is steep.

Normal daily use. ? Depends on how you intend to use it for? Not recommended for hills or anything above a few miles because these bikes are heavy

The first batch will be available on a first come first served basis maybe if you have waited a long time I’m sure that once they Raleigh have sold out more bike variants will be available later on and therefore easier to obtain hopefully as as said through the Halfords website?

I just wonder if they have missed a trick, its a kids bike but I quessing most of the buyers are adults, it just looks way to small with an adult on, mabye two versions one orginal size and adult sized, I would 100% buy the adult size one, great bike and I love that they have got rid of the MK3 seat

@@Simon-rx7sv my same thoughts, i like the chopper but i don't emberance myself riding one tho, im a freaking adult now. an upscaled version would be nicer and something new and thrown into the 21st century as a e bike would be rad. I guess they don't know much of marketing anymore on headoffice of Raleigh, they where waaaay more inventive in the 60's and 70's, now they throw it onto nostalgie. I would buy one in a heartbeat if build correctly with some digital gearing system or such. would be sooo cool

The front wheel was too small. It was not a great ride. I remember they brought out a bike here called the Oddball by Melvern Star in about 1978 with a 24 inch front wheel on the chopper style frame.

@@IconicBrands123 Yeah, strange how there are always some people who like horrible things! An aluminium Chopper! C'mon... Did the Mk3 have any redeeming features? With the Mk4 they seem to have gone absolutely as far as is possible within the bounds of today's legislation, technology and availability. The Zoetemelk replica team bike, also made for Raleigh by Maxway in Taiwan, was another horrible pastiche, with several important aspects that were very obviously inauthentic (sloping top tube, for goodness sake!!!) and could easily have been far better, so big up to The Raleigh for doing a very decent job with this latest rep and getting it as good as poss. Burner has been done to death, and quite well too. Grifter next? £1,000 Grifter rep, anyone? Or, how about a Twenty rep to the same level of detail - Raleigh's best selling bike ever, 2.2 million '68 to '84. Now that would be fun! Nice to ride as well. Everyone loves the Twenty.

It’s the maligned version of the original Raleigh Choppers should have looked like the mk4 does now . However with its alumni frame it rides the best !! Each to their own!
