Yeah, it was a little intense for my taste. The way I see it, we are all just different flavors of idiot for buying more knives than we are actually need to use, and getting snarky about the ones other people like isnt super constructive!

"we are all just different flavors of idiot for buying more knives than we are actually need to use" Hah, well said. I sometimes definitely feel like a "flavor of idiot" with all the money I waste on folders. I have tried to stop buying knives a few times. I just can't do it.

Great review! I hate to sound like an ass, but Apostle P really gets on my nerves. He is the king of being so harsh it makes him sound childish. He only likes certain styles and if you mention any non American knives or designers he turns racist as heck. Here how he pronounced sinkavich. Some of the knife is overboard but all in all the the $240.00 price tag is great for a great knife. I can't believe how he attacked some of the first reviewers. I've had words with him before, he has to much hatred for being a Christian. Oh well, great review, you nailed it. Poor Rob he must have a pretty sad life to down people or there work. But thanks for your reviews and take care.

Picked one up for 209.00 on sale. The 0850 looks alot better in person and it feels great definitely not cheap feeling. I like the fact it's a ZT with thumbstuds only and a sub frame lock.

I didn't like this knife at first blush, but it has grown on me. The accents are out there, but I like them breaking the cookie cutter look many knives have. It is the type of innovation that will help ZT grow and thrive.

Kinda reminds me of the car Home Simpson designed.

Hey, we all have varied opinions. I love the six-shooter theme, duh, my avatar? Blue is my favorite color, the CPM-20CV is one of the best steels, wow! As I write this comment I am waiting for mine to come in the mail, and because of it's lack of popularity, the price was $199.99. So see there, all good things come to those who wait for the bad reviews to lower the price. Thanks, everyone!!!!

Great sale price you paid! I paid $29.00 more "on sale". Can I ask where you got the great deal?

Blade ✔️ Handle✔️ Blue carbon fiber✔️ Accents big miss Change the pivot backspacer and thumb stud and I'd love this knife
@Kevinclearysharpstuff7 жыл бұрын
Yep I'm kind of with you on all those, except I don't hate the pivot and thumb stud just the backspacer
@Peteyrich937 жыл бұрын
Kevin cleary I don't necessarily hate the pivot I could maybe live with it if the stud and backspacer were different
@slidetek7 жыл бұрын
The backspacer took the whole theme a bit too far. I was wowed when it was shown at the blade expo, but have cooled on a lot of the design cues since then. I do love the overall shape and layout, probably a toned down version will come out losing the 6-shooter revolver bits.

Kevin how is the lock up with the sub Frame Lock? Any blade play up/down or side to side?
@warriorethic7 жыл бұрын
Just for clarification, I think Rob's example was a sharpening customer's knife. Not my particular cup of tea design wise, for the record. First time I saw the backspacer and top view of the thumb stud/barrel, I said it looked like a gas station knife. When Rob alluded to the same I laughed hardily. Kevin, as always, thanks for your thoughts and videos.

6 screws into tapped aluminum is really my biggest problem with it. I wish they just went with sexbolts for the backspacer, I hate the fear of stripping out the backspacer every time I assemble a knife. The recurve at the back of the edge is also frustrating. I might still get one, I just wish they did a couple things a little better.

You have to take what Apostle P says with a grain of salt when it comes to ZT. He rarely gives them a positive review. I appreciate the different perspective he and other knife reviewers give, but we tend to have a little brand bias to our favorites.

It's really hard to argue with his vids on the 0550. I have it and lve it, but looking at pocket clip holes drilled the wrong way is a bit ugly...I can see that he isn't their biggest fan though.....

Hey kevin great video as always btw. will you review the kershaw deadline? I'm really interested in it cause it's not assisted
@JB-kf3yb7 жыл бұрын
That backspacer is the one thing that's puts me off about the knife. It reminds me of the lead pencils you use and take the tip off and shove through the rear to push out a new tip
@AGC828 Жыл бұрын
Blade--i like it. I see more a Sheepsfoot influence e.g. slightly rounded belly, a subtle corner up top near the tip...has a sharpening choil. CF scales---I feel CF scales should have texture. the flat/smoth ones to me look cheap and plasticy...which for me defeats the purpose ...or part of it...to have CF scales in the first place....had this knife's CF scales had texture...I might be considering this knife...don't think there are aftermarket scales for the 850...correct me if I'm wrong...

Good video describing the knife. I am always ok with bronze washers but some would demand ball bearings at the price point. Overall just not my style plus I usually don't spend that kind of money on a knife.
@jackfarmboy7 жыл бұрын
Well said. Rob was a little out of character in my opinion on his knife review. I'm not saying he was wrong but you could tell this knife definitely rubbed him the wrong way. Personally don't like the six shooter aesthetics at all but design other than that is nice.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff7 жыл бұрын
yep with you on both points
@jimm2447 жыл бұрын
I like the back spacer and 6-shooter theme, but agree it's a little bold and see how it might put some people off. I find most ZT's very well put together and I will almost certainly pick one of these up. That is, if I can get past the blade shape. I'm only lukewarm about the modified harpoon -ish thing.
@orphy68696 жыл бұрын
When you add strong design features like this it seems to widen the gap between people who like it and those that do not, for me I love it, but I certainly can understand why some would not...but thats the great thing about knife collecting get what you like and pass on what you don't .
@IrishDevil787 жыл бұрын
I like it overall, not a huge fan of the backspacer. I'm guessing someone will step in with an aftermarket option. I do think this should be priced cheaper, I'd buy at $240.
@rockspydre7 жыл бұрын
I would probably buy this knife if it wasn't for the thumb stud. I have come to the point I generally hate thumb studs, and these are obnoxiously large. I wonder what it would look like with the thumb stud removed, and whether it could almost operate like a small wave. But other than the thumb stud, I love the styling. But I am generally a fan of Sinkevich's design cues.
@ScottieG597 жыл бұрын
Nice knife, but I would prefer it without the styling gimmicks. The landing pad designed to minimize the odds of pushing down on the lock while deploying may be a good thing. I have a couple frame locks that force me to hold them just so in order to open them past the detent.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff7 жыл бұрын
Scott G yeah ill have more to say about the landing pad in the full review

If they ever make on without the funky back spacer and thumb studs I buy one, but not this one. I think it flat out ruins the knife.
@davidsandlin96867 жыл бұрын
Has the same aesthetic character of every other Sinkevitch design. If you don't like his designs why buy it in the first place. I think Rexford influenced the blade and grind. It's like buying a car and complaining it is ugly after you get it. Or marrying a overweight girl and trying to make her go on a diet.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's fairly Sinkevitch feeling TheApostleP didn't buy his though I tend to like Sinkevicth the 0460 being the exception

I still think it's gimmicky and the back spacer is a bit much , a theme taken to far .The thumb studs are blocking the cutting path of the blade (a Nick pick) . A flipper tab like Liong Mah does on his SDC and GSD models would have been excellent and a floating CF back spacer and the knife would rock . Two high end designers like Rexford and Sinkevitch should have been able to come up with something better .
@Kevinclearysharpstuff7 жыл бұрын
A floating backspacer would have been epic and fit the overall design really well

Wow if Rob can't get a knife to center you know there is something wrong. Between the horrible design flaws in the 808 and 0450 I have made the hard choice and given up on ZT. They get like 80 percent of a knife right, but they always always manage to mess something up. At the price point they are asking for knives (almost midtech prices in some cases) they do not have the wiggle room to mess up like they are atm. You know what really grinds my gears? They screw straight into titanium slabs. No sockets, no liners - just cheap arse drill straight into the TI slab. Strip those threads for any reason the knife is stuffed. I think I will just invest in midtechs and high end productions from here in. $The value for money at 250 - 400 has slipped across the industry imo.

I like Rob's content, but I definitely have more than my fair share of disagreements with him. The Chinese knives thing being a big one, lol.
@MrBmgbluz7 жыл бұрын
I'm always amazed at how knife reviewers have no problem talking for 20 to 30 minutes on a cutting tool. I mean Cmon, I have a couple of good knives but they are all variations on a theme. They have a handle and a blade. I mean a 4 dollar walmart special will open a box or cut tape just as good as a sebenza. I thought guitar geeks were anal!

I like that ZT has returned, with the 0850, to the more robust form.

personally the last straw for me before i unsubscribed apostle p channel was his absolute butt kissing review of the CRKT homefront which in my books is a complete fail
@thsbulldawg827 жыл бұрын
I think the Homefront is an overpriced hokey toy. Checking it out at Blade show last year, there was nothing appealing about it. And the Ruger line also. As for Rob, his knowledge of knives is awesome. He and Nick are both places I go to early on for info on knives. May not always agree, but that's fine. I disagree with the "stabby-murdery" thoughts Nick has on anything much bigger than a Delica, lol. But, overall, his reviews are great also...
@thomaslanders11627 жыл бұрын
As you mentioned there is excitement over a new knife. There is also this group think that a knife has to be good because of famous designers and overbuilt ZT. I'm much more concerned about function over aesthetics. However, the knife is just butt ugly (many areas) and for $320 even uglier. I don't know what they were thinking when designing that knife...
@ctaber20117 жыл бұрын
Rob's was a customer sharpening I think. I don't see him buying this knife and ZT doesn't really give out review samples. I think this thing is straight tacky though.
@rockspydre7 жыл бұрын

@johnbowen53367 жыл бұрын
I think this knife is ugly, cheap and tacky looking with substandard ergos and a goofy gimmick locking system. And that's just from looking at it when it was announced! Maybe next time Rexford and Sinkevich collaborate Rexford can design the handle (his handles usually have amazing ergos) and Sinkevich can design a blade that fits in the handle. Each designer then plays to their strengths and avoids the "two head chefs in the kitchen" cat fight that this design ended up being.
