As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.”
Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!” So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”

Rob, please lay off the comedy it doesn't come naturally to you! I'd prefer you get off your high horse and just review the knife. You are acting like a Brooklyn hipster with your snarky condescension. I never even saw those other reviews you spent 10 minutes talking about. Also, don't act like you're not a drooling knife knut like the rest of us.

People who will buy this knife knife, will buy it for its unique looks. All the design flaws you mentioned except blade centering clearly can be seen in the pictures. If someone chooses to buy this knife is hardly worth complaining about irreversible clip or finger choil. This review is spiteful and pointless.

8-10 minutes of sarcastic criticism of other reviews and still no mention of your impression, technical aspects or anything that you normally might talk about in your initial reviews? I just don't have the time/interest/patience to sit through/scan for where the actual review starts. Much different than your usual standard.This video is a swing and a miss, Rob. I look forward to checking out your next video though.

Brian Duncan There actually is a point to all that, Brian. I've grown weary of cleverly placed knife commercials masquerading as reviews on KZbin. I think it's irresponsible and it costs people money. Guys search KZbin reviews for help making purchase decisions, thinking they're going to get objective evaluations of products. That's why they're called "reviews." The first part of this video was a shot across the bow of manufacturers and KZbinrs who produce the type of content I'm talking about. You should watch the other ZT0850 reviews I mentioned and see what you think.

I went and watched them Rob. In that context, the first part of your video makes a lot of sense; I still feel it should be in a separate video, but I really respect you don't shy away from calling it as you see it. Thanks for the explanation and clearing up my ignorance on this. Other than you and Christy, I don't follow any knife channels anymore so was fairly oblivious to what's happening.

Rob, I respect your opinions on knives--even if I disagree with them. Here I definitely disagree with your opinions (and that's fine). I don't own one, but I really love this knife. I would offer one criticism, though: this review seems more like a rant against other reviewers and not a true review about the knife. Maybe everyone is saying the same things because they are paid off, but maybe they're just saying the same things because, hey, there's probably not a lot of new things you can say when reviewing the same knife between multiple people. It honestly came off as a bit cynical, and not very helpful to me as a viewer of your channel, who is coming here to watch your videos as a source of information and opinion on knives. God bless.

I'm new to these "new" "modern" "tactical" "non-traditional" (don't know what they are really called) knives. Rob, you have helped me learn to appreciate them more. But I'm going to be honest and maybe draw some fire, I've always thought they looked like glorified box cutters. But don't get too mad at me. I actually understand, very well, the allure of collecting and appreciating things that are so well designed that they defy the normal standards of quality, aesthetics, and functionality. Apple calls it 'elegant design' I think. So, all this to just say that, I appreciate Rob and his reviews. I watch them all. I look forward to the knife sales on Thursdays. We all have our opinions and don't need to get so ticked off at each other. And Rob, do what you want with your KZbin channel... after all it's your channel and it's still a free country, I think.

Personally I wouldn't consider that saving time, because there's no value there. When I watch a knife review I want the reasons behind the opinion, if you just give me the opinion and none of the reasons, yes it's quicker but it doesn't mean anything so I don't care about the time saved.

Sean Seevers I know this seems odd compared to most ZT reviews, but I feel a responsibility to actually analyze a knife as a tool and report on that analysis in such a way that it helps people decide how to spend their hard earned money. My reviews are not designed to make people feel good about a knife they've already purchased, just because it was expensive. But I hope you like your 0850 😉

As a YT knife reviewer (with a smaller following) I was a bit miffed at first. I was excited to get a new ZT and made my video reflect this excitement. Doctor Frunkey Thank you very much for that comment, Doc! I was in a similar position, albeit for different reasons, after a glowing initial review of the Spyderco Advocate (history well documented). It's a blessing to know that a fellow KZbinr, even one who might have been implicated by my "rant" in this video, understood the point of it. My goal in that effort was not to call people out, but rather to call for more objectivity in the genre of knife reviews. And just for the record, I realize my own shortcomings in that area. Thanks again for commenting in such a constructive way. PS This knife is on it's way back to ZT for repair or replacement due to the blade centering issue.

The design is very unique, borderline on goofy. I would definitely wait for the full on tactical theme when ZT releases an 0850 in all black. That would be ok with me. The first 13 minutes of the review almost made me want to get the knife although I knew you were being sarcastic. You just made all the good points about the knife seem so much more interesting. At the end of the day though, as much as you don't like chinese knives, I'm holding a Venom Attacker and thinking,"Rob would rather have this knife for the money."

I normally like your long discussions about knife related material, but this video is flawed. You talk in a sarcastic verbal manner that profoundly denounces from your ethos. If I haven't watched so many your videos I'd have a scewed perception of your ideology of your channel. With that being said not too bad of point. I do believe this is worth more than the ZT 0804 CF which I paid about 280 USD for. I have not gotten the ZT 0850 yet but I prefer thumb studs and washers if they are excited correctly. Is this kife worth the 60 USD increase over the ZT 0804 CF? Thank you!

I do like the solid c.f., the blade shape, and the sub frame(mainly because you get c.f. on the lock side too) I think the revolver and bullet theme is goofy as all get out. It would be so much cooler with barrel style standoffs, a standard thumb stud, and a standard pivot. I'd also like some sort of choil so you could really take advantage of that thumb rest on the top of the blade.

Hey Rob! When are you going to post a vid acknowledging Spyderco's policy changes on warranty and loctite issues, and Spyderco's acknowledgment of Advocate issues? As fun as this vid is, I really thought that would be the ApostleP vid I would see this week.
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 7 жыл бұрын
ltlgiant07 Indy317 I'm still formulating that one in my head. I have a couple of issues I need to get a firm grip on before making the video. While I am happy about he changes in the warranty and Loctite policy, as well as the Advocate announcement, some of the verbiage in Mr. Janich's statements was bothersome to me. Kind of a "We're going to correct a problem that really isn't a problem" tone. Also, I want to make sure my video doesn't sound like I'm taking credit for these changes. I have absolutely no reason to believe my videos had much if any effect on Spyderco's decisions.

Craig Ferguson Yeah... this knife, and the "reviews" of it posted so far, kind of set me off. ZT has become very skilled at doing limited releases to select retailers, getting a small first wave of a new model into the hands of "fanboy reviewers," and then waiting for those first few glowing "reviews" to get some buzz going. Then they do the mass release, with hoards of collectors lined up to buy them based on those marketing videos disguised as reviews. This video was as much a statement about that as it was a knife review. They should take it personally.

This knife reminds me of the theme bikes that were built by American Chopper , form over function . It's gimmicky . The thumb studs in the way of the cutting path is something i never noticed until Nick Shabazz pointed it out , but it makes total sense . A lot of high end knives are guilty of it . ZT has a lot of better designed knives for less money . The 0452 CF is a Sinkevitch design done right . PS , it will also "wave deploy" when removing it from your pocket , which is fine if you're expecting it .

I still love ya Rob. I own one rexford mini epicenter- and yes it is amazing! Action construction, design, execution, feels like a custom small sebenza but smoother. The mini epicenter is on phosphor bronze washers, and the blade steal is com-154, and it's no flipper-- it has an awesome thumbstud. I've never owned a Sinkevich built product, but I own 3 Sinkevich collabs with shirogorov, Cannabis on washers, cannabis on mrbs, and jeans on mrbs- and I love his design eye. I love his style and his forward thinking. I don't own any ZT Sinkevich knives- I've thought about them. I do have a deal breaker with knives--- has to be centered or I would not carry or use it... it would drive me crazzzy!! That said.... I still only carry and edc and use my sebenza 21, with silver hardware. So even though we may disagree sometimes rob on asthetic knife design, sometimes, we both still land on the same spot! However, I kind of feel bad for the reviewers who put out the videos that you mention. I don't think it's fair to assume that they had biased opinions. hovan-A-sec I appreciate your comment, and I must admit that although my harshness was based upon several years of experience watching the type of "review" I spoke of, it was harsh by design. It was designed to get the attention of the guys who post those videos, and the guys who watch them. Marketing videos packaged as reviews aren't very helpful to consumers looking for credible information upon which to base purchase decisions, and the KZbin knife review genre is becoming pretty crowded with them.

I didn’t want to believe this knife is goofy, but mine arrived today, and it’s worse! The lock bar insert barely makes contact with the blade, and a slight twist in either direction will release the blade(!!!!!). I’m a gun owner/collector, and I like revolvers, but this looks like some strange Orange County Choppers theme bike. The blade is sharp and centered, and the pivot screw was drenched in Loctite. The lock bar has almost no pressure, so in its current condition, I’d say it’s dangerous to use....

I think a lot of the excitement over this knife is that _at last_ ZT is producing one of their concept knives for the masses. So we've got an inexpensive 0777/0606 that will be made by the thousands instead of dozens. I have to admit, I was smitten when I first saw it being flashed around in January. I did like the theme, and the form still following function to some degree. However, the design cues are already beginning to wear a bit thin for me. Thanks for talking about the blade issues, these are questions I had regarding the strange choices made here. Nope, for $325 I assume it's posing as an EDC and not a safe queen. In that regard, there's too many concessions.
@zioo3117

I agree. Add that the six shooter cue strike me as a little strange. Are they appealing to really mature gun owners or the irresponsible who would like to shoot out some rounds when ever they feel like it. Not sure what they are feeling when they feel like it?

I had my Sebenza 21 in hand and just grinned throughout the video. Then I just realized that my We Knife 703E is damn near perfect out of box, as with many cheaper in comparison, at a fraction of the cost. That said, ZT's BEST knife is the 0220, although I do wish it had barrel spacers instead of direct thread to titanium.
@hityoutwo
@hityoutwo 7 жыл бұрын
DRum886 the threading through Ti is keeping me from pulling the trigger on the 220 and 456. I don't know if it's a real issue bc the 300 series did it too. Still worried about stripping em though

Rob- Thanks for the the honest review. I've never heard CPM 20cv criticized before. At first blush, this knife didn't appeal to me, but it has grown on me. Aesthetics are highly objective. I think you were a bit hard on this knife. It is better than anything Spyderco or Benchmade have come with this year. It has the quality in build and materials to take on Reate, WE, Maxace, Rike and Kizer. You should do a video update on steels.

MrGeerbear I wasn't really criticizing CPM-20CV. I actually like it a lot. But when I watched other reviewers talk about how it was such a "high end steel," while admitting they knew nothing about it, I thought it was worth mentioning. I would expect a production ZT for over $300 to have a more ambitious steel application, and it IS more chippy than its two cousins. It might be better than any Spydie released this year, but I definitely rate the Benchmade Presidio II higher than the 850, especially given its $140 lower price.

As usual Rob you get down to brass tacks! Could have been a nice design with more focus on the essentials and less energy spent on silly motif elements. BTW, I think your review could have been improved minus the 1st 10 minutes of sarcasm. I don't mind a little well earned derision and that's one of the things I appreciate about your videos-you don't pull punches but you went overboard on this one!

Do I detect some sarcasm? :) To be honest I absolutely love the looks of this knife. That is not to say I would'nt like to see a few changes. For example I do not like how the back of the blade sticks out a little in closed position. I do agree with your criticisms about the execution. By the way... serious review start at 13:00.

My local dealer just got one in, and I have to say, it came pristine in all respects. The Sinkevich grind is the only thing that kills it for me. They need to give a choil on all of his knives, because that grind kills sharpness.

Nice review Rob. Nice to see someone not just restating the same boring talking points over and over again. As an aside, you might want to consider naming ZT videos as "ZT ####" rather than "ZT####" as it seems the former is what shows up best on search results.

This review comes off sarcastic, condescending and angry, however many valid points are brought to light. I Totally agree about the forward finger choil idea and that it is a touch overpriced, but if ones not a fan of subframe locks or the firearm theme throughout the knife, that criticism only reflects your preference and taste with this design, and has no bearing on it's factual quality and worth. All in all a good video though and I do respect your opinions by and large.

kirk nyman I must admit, Kirk, I was a bit angry when I made this review video, and sarcasm is my “go to” technique when I’m angry. Pretty passive aggressive I suppose. But I do get quite tired of “reviews” of knifes that sound like the marketing copy from a manufacturer’s website. The ZT 0850 reviews online prior to this one were the worst example of that I could remember at that point. Thus, this video. Perhaps I should have waited a day or two 😉

There's likely many reviewers working for the blade companies giving glowing reviews to help push their product, not being honest and objective perhaps. I don't really know, I just love conspiracy theories, lol.

I get where you are coming from on this, but there really does need to be a little more of a decided review here. I know why you did the bit at the beginning, but frankly it went on for so long that it pretty much killed the legitimate review that came afterward, and it sounded like even you were having some trouble keeping it up at the end of the bit. That being said, I do appreciate your opinion, and understand where you are coming from on this one. I do wish that they had toned down the weird added quirks in this knife like the "gun cylinder" theme in the whole knife, and kept it to a little more functional designs. Especially since the knife is very light for the size and I know that a large number of people have had very good luck with the QC on this knife, and it seems like MOST (and I mean most) of them are centered, well tuned, and smooth. Could have been a home run, and I get your frustration, but it really did feel like you were going a little overboard on the other reviews here. I have seen other negative or mixed reviews on this knife, so I will also say you are not alone on this one. Still always good to see a new video from you. Hopefully we see some better iterations of this knife in the future that aren't so crazy...

Khahill Urhsheilf I think if you look, you'll see some pretty favorable ZT reviews on this channel. The 804, 808, 550, 562, 392, 620/630 and 801BRZ come quickly to mind. But I also point out their faults, and they have some. Some they've corrected, like spinning female pivots, perhaps because there are still reviewers who do objective reviews.
