Awesome!.... but as someone who train "liberty" on daily basis I cannot stay away from correcting a term here, since there are a lot of people looking up to Erin. I don't want people to get the sense that this - what they're doing in the video - is liberty work. Because it's not. They're basically doing ground work. Liberty is what the word says: freedom = without ropes, tie downs and equipment that will in any shape or form make the horse easier for a human to handle/work with/hold them close or in your preferred place. Liberty work is all about giving the horse a choice to walk away whenever they want. Liberty work is all about building a connection, trust, will and freedom to choose to be together. I'm not trying to be mean about this, just informative. Because if anyone would mix other terms like "dressage" with "jumping" - it would be a huge deal. And I can understand that the liberty term is very new to a lot of people. This is also why it's important to try to stay informed - check it up, read about it, watch informative videos, listen to podcasts and what not.... be curious so that we all can use the terms correctly rather than just guess and assume. Who knows... maybe the spanish guy called this "liberty"....well...he certainly got it wrong too. Language barrier? I guess in that sense that he actually meant "trick training". Teaching a horse tricks isn't the same as liberty, but it can be part of liberty - as long as the horse is free to choose to be part of something. There is always room for knowledge, and everyone is allowed to create their own path of a learning curve - therefor there have to be room for faults and mistakes. :) But I do strongly believe that influencers should do their best to try to keep up with the right terms - since they are influencing people and often showing people things they might not be familiar with from before. ;) Good luck Erin with your new horse, he's such a charmer!
@ellie272 жыл бұрын
Read the description, Erin knows that lol. This is her first proper introduction to something like this and she’s learning this brand new horse’s buttons with a ‘safety net’ if you like, before attempting it at full liberty which would be dangerous considering the horse’s experience and hers along with the language barrier. As with all disciplines, we all start somewhere and this is a good introduction for her. Jumping is still jumping when you are being guided by a trainer over the tiniest cross pole and having to hold onto a neck strap for support - you’re just building the blocks to create the knowledge and experience for jumping unassisted and higher. It works the same with other disciplines.
@malin11532 жыл бұрын
@@ellie27 Sorry, nope. This is not liberty or a "proper introduction". If you're doing liberty with a "safety net" with ropes and tie downs just to show off some cool moves you ARE taking the horse's free will away. And therefor it is not liberty...not even slightly. And can never be. Anyone who starts training liberty should never start with "let's watch the horse do some cool high dressage level moves with a bit and tie downs. No, then it's called "tricks or ground work". Liberty is not about the cool moves...maybe when you have finally gotten the hang of it and the horse and yourself is 100% connecting. But you never start liberty like in the video. You start in a smaller paddock or round pen, letting the horse know that you won't force the horse to do anything. Praising the horse for staying with you, walking in the same direction...and so on.........
@Pazuandfriends2 жыл бұрын
@@ellie27 Erin calls this “close to liberty” in the description but as this comment and others suggest it is far from liberty or even positive reinforcement.
@maridavidson84782 жыл бұрын
@@ellie27 not even close to liberty. There really is no release for the horse constantly having his head tied down. Just like she said it’s like comparing dressage to jumping and saying it’s almost the same just with safety nets

Awww what a beautiful boy!! He tries so hard to do the right thing and understand, my lusitano gelding is 4 and he also tries so hard and when he feels he doesn’t do it right he gets a little anxious. So we just try again and then he’s happy. They just try so hard to understand. ! Sometimes it may come off that they are upset but trust me they don’t like to make mistakes 🥰
@kimberlyearly89182 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why you teach a horse tricks. I mean, they aren't dogs. Not trying to be rude but it just seems unnatural. I haven't watched the video yet because I've seen a few comments that sound like I'm gonna feel sorry for buski and Erin.
@animallover41012 жыл бұрын
@@kimberlyearly8918 well my horse loves to learn new things ! No he’s not a dog but tricks we teach dogs aren’t things dogs would do in the wild either. It’s more about mental stimulation because they are now domesticated and if I don’t keep him stimulated he likes to do things to keep himself entertained and not always in a good way . Of course all horses are individuals and some need more mental stimulation than others.

I adore this horse 🥰 Iberian horses are my absolute favourites, they are so sensitive and try their absolute hearts out but I’ve found with mine and others I’ve worked with anticipation and tension/anxiety creeps in. We incorporate lots of relaxing - standing still, head lowered to lower adrenaline (not forced with tie downs but taught to lower their head on cue), scratching of the withers and praise. I think you’ll find this will go along way with your boy too and I can see you are going to absolutely cherish him. As an aside for this in-hand type of work I’d recommend removing the tie downs and changing from a bridle to a cavesson. All the best and have fun on your new journey with him :)

I had an Arabian stallion (pure Egyptian blood) and I've started liberty with him just for fun.. In the beginning it is so much harder than it looks... But once you get the basics it doesn't not matter what you want to teach them because every thing has the same core principles. The most important thing is for you to be calm and focused on what you want to ask and getting the timing right.. Within a few weeks my stallion could do al different things like Spanish walk, Spanish trot, kneeling down, "compliment" (like bowing down), rearing, etc and to gallop around me on a circle of the lead and change speed, turn, stop, turn, make smaller circles to the left and right, stop beside me on both sides, piaff, etc.. And it was the most fun I had with a horse in decades!! I know you will be more than capable to learn this and going on teaching him a whole range of new things.. But the most important part is that you will have so much fun with him!!!

Ok because I’ve seen so many people talking about the „metal noseband“ I would like to inform everyone that this is a caveson (or I believe that’s what it’s called in English). Notice the ring in the middle. It’s used for groundwork specifically anything that has to do with bending the horses neck and it needs that metal core (or a similar sturdy material) to not slide around when you apply pressure from the side. Metal doesn’t mean bad. I don’t see people here complaining about bits so…

It's expensive and they have to go through a 70 quarantine, 40 days in the country they are shipping from and 30 on arrival. There is a difference taking a horse in and out for a show and importing them. Brexit also added to the paperwork and time it takes, customs is a nightmare at the moment. This is all without Covid making transportation of pretty much anything into and out of the UK extra hard. She may also be paying a trainer to well do some training before he ships which will also take time.

Just to inform, what they're doing in the video is not liberty. She has probably (by lack of knowledge) used the wrong term here. Liberty is all about not using tie downs, ropes or other equipment that in any shape or form keeps the horse in your preferred position. As the word says "liberty" - it basically means that the horse is free - free to choose to take part - free to choose to leave, connection and trust. Everyone can make mistakes. But if you do want to learn more about liberty, you can easily search the term in youtube and get multiple informative videos about it ;)

@@malin1153 Just to inform, this is a video where Erin is learning what her new horse's trainer has taught him. You'll notice the emphasis on learning the vocal cues. This is the start of her liberty journey with Buski. While you may not see it as such, she has clearly stated she was looking for a liberty horse and that this is the first in-hand lesson she has had with the one she chose. Each journey is different and I am still very much looking forward to what I'll learn (and what Erin will learn & share) as the journey continues. :)

I hope you have video copies of all of your training lessons. You will probably do much better, and be more sure of yourself once you get him home. I think you two were meant for each other! The gentleman providing your lessons may have been a little over zealous and was pushing him too hard, trying to impress. That horse wants to please you, and in my humble opinion he's going to eventually do whatever it is that you want him to do providing you just know how to ask him. At one point during the training with the man I got the impression that the horse was trying to tell you that something was hurting. I think it really has to be a bit painful for a horse to put all of that weight on that one knee. If it hurts how else is he going to tell you? I just think he was trying to say something.
