Boy could Chris and his Uncle John have used that beast on the 10 acre pond job the did earlier this year the had to clean out a swampy mess at one end and fix the damn and logged area at the other end. I don't know why but Chis's pond job series are my favorites. It's absolutely fascinating how he can take an utter disaster and transform it into a thing of beauty.

I like the sand dredging job he keeps going back to. Last time he was there he only had some maintenance dredging but before that he had dredged out a mountain of sand and had two big dump trucks ( Uncle John and another the same size) and one “cute” little single axle dump truck that held only 1-2 buckets worth.

Makes transport more difficult and unless you get wider tracks it sinks more and tears up the ground more due to the added weight. Plus swing time and added fuel burn. I'm sure it's an option but the machine seems to work as configured.
@redhidinghood

@@xenadu02 I've seen a couple of excavators with water tanks as extra counterweights.- drain them for transport, fill them once it gets to the next job site. The logic behind adding the long reach machine makes total sense. And with the dredging work you guys do, it will likely pay for itself that way alone. Not to mention the benefit of (at least on this job) not having to deal with being down in the pond and dealing with navigating thru the muck and mud on mats.
