Wintersun is finnish metal band from nations capitol Helsinki. Jari Mäenpää (guitarist, leadsinger) is mastermind behind the band. Wintersun started as his soloproject while he was still playing in Ensiferum (great band also). He composes all the songs. Other wizards are Teemu Mäntysaari (greenguitar, backing vocals), Jukka Koskinen (bass) and human metronome Kai Hahto himself. This is song from Time1 album. There is also two other songs from same album and rehearsals Time and Land of Snow and Sorrow. For me Time is the best metal song ever. Forest Seasons album is great also. It is about four seasons and Jari's most personal album. He is dealing loss of his father. Songs are Awaken From the Dark Slumber (spring), Forest That Weeps (summer), Eternal Darkness (autumn, best black metal song btw 😉) and Loneliness (winter) all official lyric videos. First album Wintersun has really great songs like Death and Healing, Starchild, Winter Madness Sadness and Hate. Great that you got into wolrd of Wintersun 🤘🏼😊

Few month ago I was in this furniture store checking something up (mattress if I remember it right). It was one of many country wide chain stores which play some music from their speakers all around the store( you know... christmas song and stuff). As I was slowly walking and checking products, I suddenly heard something familiar. Yes... they were playing this song in full. Made me smile a lot. Later I was thinking, if there's any other country in the world where this song would be considered good idea to play in the stores as background music :) Oh... yes... I'm a Finn.

Hey there Tom, I did warn you they would fry your brain and melt your soul. Jari Mäenpää, the lead guitarist and singer, is for Wintersun what Tuomas is for Nightwish, a great composer, a poet, the man behind everything, another Metal Mozart. Many people get the impression that growling & screaming is just noise, and in some cases this is true, but with this band it's purposeful to the lyrics, don't worry about wifey, she will make sense of it I've no doubt. I did suggest you listen to Wintersun - Time (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER first, which is the perfect introduction where you then move to stage two...Sons of Winter and Stars 🤘

I followed Ensiferum long before Jari started Wintersun as a side project, yes they were very good but he carried on that excellence to Wintersun, albeit with a different sub-genre. While I do really like Sons of Winter and Stars, it's Time from the same rehearsal session that really blew my mind. Time has mostly clean singing (a bit of growling at the beginning).

Yeah, Sons of Winter and Stars is more like a business card for Wintersun: this is a mix tape of stuff we do. The "Time I" (1 in roman literals) is THE song you want to listen. Once Jari releases "Time II" we may be a new winner.

Another band with growling, Amorphis, I would say more pleasant growling and Tomi's clean vocals are honey, velvet to my ears. Amorphis "Death of a King" Official Video or "The Bee" Official Lyric Video The 1st one might be more to your liking, more melodic.

There's so much going on, it took me four listens to be able to just relax and enjoy it. I'm not really into growling, but it works here, enough for me to buy the album. I don't think you've done Evergrey yet - one of Floor's favourite bands. I like "Distance" (Official music video), or there's "In Orbit" with Floor guesting on vocals. Lots more good stuff from them. And hey - I'm 67 and still keeping up with all this.

I had so much fun watching your reaction lol!! It was the same for me when I heard it for the first time, the growling/screaming I don't like it much, but now...I love this song!! I'm a 67 yr old grandma and my kids say...the older, the crazier lol! I read several times that this song had 1400 tracks!! that had to be mixed but recently I found and interview with Jari in which he says there were 1682!!! of them. Unbelievable!! As he is always squinting because of the sweat in his eyes that I think it is amazing that he knows which part of his drumkit he has to bang on haha. The "feedback" is more the style of music, a "wall of sound" so to speak. Also, I love how at the start you were not sure, but by the end of the song you are all in. Believe me, the more heavy stuff you hear, the more palatable growls become, as it can be an acquired taste. Also, you might enjoy Ne Obliviscaris- And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope, live in Colorado. They have been labelled by some as the Australian Wintersun, which is high praise as you just saw. The song is even used in the curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a study of virtuosity and composition.

"amorphis - brother and sister (official video)" singer tomi has one of the best claer voices in metal (and yes he growls a little bit) I´m usually not into growling, but this voice is something else... don´t miss. trust me.

Kai's little sister, Haruna from Lovebites is also a beast on the kit and is often compared to him power, speed and style wise. The 2 of them would put a roomful of Energizer bunnies to shame!! This band is awesome and now you see why Nightwish wanted Kai to replace Jukka when his health issues sidelined him. The 4 seasons songs are just as epic and sensational as this masterpiece. This plays all the time in Finland, metal but metal done by musicians who have honed their gifts and worked on those gifts for years, much like their counterparts in Japan. Jari the lead vocalist here is belting this out despite having TB reduce his lung capacity, imagine what he would be like at 100%!! You now have to do the other young band Asterism Dawn LIVE (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKa0gal_g6-Wd5I) in a small club but these HIGH SCHOOL kids are total world class phenoms. You want to see Hendrix's granddaughter on guitar, Hal-Ca is 16 here and playing only from age 10, Miyu on the 7 string bass is 17 and a total master. At 3:00 and at 7:00 you will get the Hendrix vibe from this girl and the video shows off the string work in great detail. They write, arrange and play their Metal/Rock/Jazz fusion sound like no one else out there.

The drummer here is Kai, their current drummer. I may be wrong, but I believe the one you love so much is Jukka, the former drummer that is in the Wacken concert. You can't go wrong with either one when it comes talent.

At first I wasn't into the scream at all but the mucic was brilliant,, however the more I listened to it the more I could understand him and it became pleasurable to listen to.
