May I make the suggestion, if you like gravel, then check out Jimmy Barnes solo (or with John Farnham), also in Cold Chisel. We have some amazing singers in Aus. Farnsie is a beloved singer & he did concerts with Olivia Newton John, she was Sandy in 'Grease'.

I love what you said about John’s emotional intelligence in interpreting lyrics. That’s the best description (apart from “wow”) that I’ve heard. He has a beautiful, rich, warm tone and a conviction to the words. John is loved. You’ll read that a lot in the comments. So much respect for him as a human being and the talented and generous performer he has been for 50+ years. John’s voice IS an instrument befitting an orchestral arrangement, although he doesn’t need it. You might like to listen to him sing “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” back when he was 30 years old as an indication of his vocal talent. BTW, this was John’s arrangement picked up later by other singers.

We Aussies love watching reactions from people never exposed to John before. There's a very deep rabbit hole you really must explore. He can sing any genre and is known to and admired globally by many professionals of every genre. Celine Dion's story was incredibly brave and well done and it was amazing that she's been a fan of John's forever. What an honour for John to be the only artist she featured. BTW from memory Celine and John sang You are the Voice in her documentary. Check that song out, same concert. John's just turned 75 and until his surgery a year-ish ago his voice retained the range of his youthful voice. Explore some more, 'play it and they will come', well Aussies will, in droves. John's family to us anything you want to know just ask.

Gday Christi and yes welcome to the master class that is John Farnham... a world class belter and one of the best vocalists of all time in the history of music... and what you also picked up, yes it was the last song of the night after a whopping 2 hour concert, and John as always giving it all and vocally putting us all to shame... John is one of those rare beasts that while vocalists have come and gone through the years and generally by the time they are 50 are washed up... John was in his 70's still kicking vocal butt, it was only the cancer tumour in his mouth at 74 in 2022 that put a stop to his touring schedule and singing... so it's thanks to the net that people all around the world such as yourself are discovering this vocal ear candy that is the mighty John Faranhm... thanks for your great reaction to John...

John was nicknamed "Whispering Jack" by audio engineers as he either had to pull his voice back or they had to drape cloth over the studio microphones to prevent him from blowing them out, he has a 7 octave range and used to sing Nessun Dorma as a warm up before concerts. He also starred in a stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the man is simply unmatched as a vocal talent...

Every song he did in this awesome concert is worthy of reacting to as well as a lot of others, but John is best enjoyed live, so whenever possible react to live performances. He's always been know as the singer's singer, yet humble, with many well known artists such as Celine, Tom Jones, Richard Marx, Barry Gibb, Olivia Newton John etc friends, fans & collaborators. Admirers also were Freddie Mercury who thought him one of the best singers in the world & John Lennon. Farnham put together this version of Help (1980), was a comeback song in attempt to bring him back from long forgotten fame as former young pop idol and was the preferred version of the song for Lennon. John's also know to be able to sing anything from rock, ballads, soul, muscial theatre, list goes on. Songs to check out are: Collaboration with another Australian great Jimmy Barnes with 'Something's Wrong With My Baby' With Olivia Newton John with 'Please don't ask me' (1998 live) 'Gethsemane' from live final show 1992 final show 'Long Way to the Top' AC/DC cover live 1989 Classic Jack show & 'You're the Voice' from same show... just for starters.

He is the Premier Australian performer & we have a few. His duet of Please Don't Ask Me with Olivia Newton-John is awesome as is his rendition of Led Zep's Blackdog recorded during a Song Check is absolutely brilliant. he appeared on a Tonight Show in Australia & did a duet with Pavarotti of Nessum Dorma & Pavarotti was surprised when he said he was only a pop singer. Pav thought he was an Opera Singer. John Lennon once said in an Interview that this was the way he wanted this song to be sung. They were due to meet in January 1981, but as we know, it didn't happen. John has a 4 Octave range. This particular performance was an encore after a 2 hour Concert. He is also a very funny man.

Wow what a great reaction. It was so good to see Celine spend so much time refering to our John in her documentary.. Celine absolutely loves John Farnham and has been a huge fan of his since the 80's. It's actually his most famous song, You're the Voice, that Celine sang with John here in Australia. She has had it in her set list for quite a few of her concerts too. In the documentary she says that she wants to sing Johns arrangment of HELP, once her voice recovers as it's another one of his songs she's always loved. John is well known amongst some of the worlds greatest singers. For instance he has sung and/or recorded music with Stevie Wonder who John toured with early in his career, john also toured with Tom Jones later in his career, and Richard Marx who was heavily influenced by John and ended up writing some songs for John and joined him in concert once. every time Rochard tohrs australia he sings a few of johns songs as well.. also Laura Brannagan, Celine Dion, Ray Charles did a concert with John, our own Olivia Newton John is also a long time freind who has often toured with JF, same as with Kyliejnogue who also did several tours with John, not to mention Queen. In Fact John was considered at one stage as a replacement for lead when Freddie passed away. Tommy Yohanson has also done a cover of Johns song You're the Voice. Which i hope you will react to next. Theres a version out there fro. This same concery with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Some other intersting facts. JOHN sold outsold more cobcerts tham the likes of Michael Jackson who toured australia at tje same time as John one year. John still hold records in Australia as the highest ever Aria award winner, the highest selling album by an Aussie artist

@@jeffwilson7100 Stevie Nix was quoted as saying she didn't realise she would be touring with the Frank Sinatra of Australia. She shortened John's set. John was originally coming on first followed by Stevie...and she kept shortening the time that he had. Then changed it so he came on after her ...but people left after john finished or turned up later when she changed the order around. The tour was during a time that Johm had not been touring for a couple of years and fans were keen to see him again ...so makes a lot of sense.

After John left Little River Band, he had been approached by Brian May to front Queen; once again, John felt it would take him away from family. Us Aussies have been blessed to have John to ourselves for so long; but it is right and proper that he be acknowledged by the rest of the world, as an exceptional singer and performer.

There is a video of John and Celine singing together. They sang You’re the Voice which is John’s most famous song. The video that goes for 9 minutes has Celine telling John about listening to him on KZbin for 20 odd years by that time and how inspiring he is to her.

Not bad for the encore for a two plus hour show. Great reaction thanks. Ohh almost forgot, always live with John he responds to the audience so well. Anything from this concert, duets with Olivia Newton John or Jimmy Barnes, all good.

John is the GOAT, a much loved Aussie legend who can sing any genre. You can see why Celine loves him. There is more from the same concert, You're the Voice, (we call him The Voice) or Long way to the top. One of my favorites is a beautiful duet with Olivia Newton John called Please don't ask me from a concert tour they did called The Main Event. By the way, John Lennon loved John Farnham's version of Help and said this was how it was supposed to be sung, not the 'preppy" fast track that The Beatles were coerced into recording. When he wrote it, it was a cry for help. Great reaction, looking forward to some more of Farnsey, there's so much to see.❤

Paul and John love this version of the song and have said that this slower pace was how they envisioned the song when it was written but the record label made them sing it as we all know it, because they were young and didn't have the confidence to stand up to the label execs and say no

This is a magical arrangement, by David Hirschfelder I believe (his piano player/musical director). Backing vocals (for the last 2 decades) has been Lisa Edwards and Ms Venetta Fields (and usually male vocalist/guitarist Lindsey Field), American born singer, toured with Pink Floyd, recorded on albums like Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd, recordings by Humble Pie, Barbra Streisand, Elkie Brooks, Neil Diamond, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger and the Rolling Stones "Exile on Main Street". She was also AN IKETTE with Tina Turner and Ike Turner. In 2002, Fields received the Australian Gospel Singer of the Year award. In recognition of her achievements, Fields was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame on September 29, 2005. 10:10 when he goes into that upper octave, he seems to have MORE open voice and power, the last/highest note he hits is PURE.. and easy.. and look at that mic technique! (Im a sound guy!) Hi, liked and subscribed from Adelaide, South Australia, where "Johnny Farnham" started his career at 17/18.. My Mums co-worker in the 1960s was his original (dodgy) Manager.

Thank you for reacting to the great John Farnham, or The Voice, as we like to call him in Australia 🇦🇺 😊 He is one of a kind, and if you decide to listen to more of his work, you will not be disappointed. He has been performing for 6 decades and has a vast back catalogue of work. John is all about the love, as you mentioned. Love for his family, friends, fans, band members, the music and humanity itself. Aussies have been so lucky that he shared his gift with us 😍 John and Celine performing You're The Voice together is so beautiful, please check that out if you like ❤❤ Funny that you mentioned finding your voice at the end as there is a documentary called Finding The Voice about John 😅 I hope you will listen to more and thank you for your lovely and respectful reaction 😊 ❤❤

John Lennon said that this was the tempo that he had always intended to record this song at, but due to the pressure of the production staff, they recorded it at a more poppy tempo.

Since you mentioned Celine Dion, did you know that she had said that John is one of her favourite singers of all time, that they are good friends, she adores him, and Celine sung "You've the Voice" with him. He's a national treasure in Australia, one of the greatest vocalists of all time (male or female), never took any formal singing lessons, and unfortunately in light of recent events, was a heavy smoker his entire career. Yet he could still pull off this performance of Help at the end of a more than two-hour concert. He's an amazing human being, and is loved by all. The quintessential Australian lovable larrikan.

The fact that John is virtually unknown in the US is a crime. The joy we Australians have had growing up with him should have been more widely shared. Check his duet with Olivia Newton John singing "Please Don't Ask Me".

There is a great plethora of world class Australian singers and bands, that have not been noticed overseas. The Australian music scene has it's own unique way of expressing music. I would like to recommend you react to Kasey Chamber's version of Eminem's Lose Yourself. Kasey is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, who includes using influences from other music styles in her writings; starting from the age of 10 performing in the Dead Ringer Band(a family group including her father, mother and brother), she commenced her solo career in 1998(at age of 22) and has released 12 studio albums along with multiple hit singles.

Thanks for reacting to John, we love him, and for so many reasons. Yes, he is enjoying the moment - he loves every moment that he is singing for and with people, and you can always tell. His joy in performing is part of what we love about him so much. He is a phenomenal vocalist, but also a phenomenal performer, and a genuinely humble, generous, and down-to-earth person. Hope you do more, and the only advice I have is to always, always do John live. You will discover he has a great range of genres, does them all brilliantly, and you will never hear a bum note!

Whereas The Beatles "Help" was released as a pop song, John Farnham's version is more a rock ballad. John first performed his version in 1980, at a Royal Charity Concert in front of Queen Elizabeth II at the Sydney Opera House. John Lennon was given a copy of Farnham's version, Lennon said " That is how the song was meant to be sung!". When ever John Farnham sings, you will always see a smile on his face. The reason most people outside of Australia haven't heard of John, is he decided to put family before international touring; John's signature song You're The Voice was released overseas with mixed success, but gained greater attention in the US after he released Age of Reason. When Celine Dion was in Australia, she started to sing You're The Voice when John Farnham appeared on stage to join her(I believe the duet of Help was then performed). Besides Celine, John has sung with both Australian and International artists; including Ray Charles, and Australians Olivia Newton John and Jimmy Barnes.

John was around 40 years old when he performed here. It was an encore at the end of a 2 hour concert. Australia loves and respects John for his talent, humility and generosity to his fellow performers and for fellow Australians in need eg raising funds to assist farmers suffering through crippling drought etc. it is a fact that he could get the audience singing along or totally silence them in awe. I love his performances with Tom Jones as well as Celine and other artists. I always wondered why his career didn’t go Worldwide, especially after Sammy Davis Jnr encouraged him to go to the USA and an legendary American late night host here in Australia, Don Lane, just adored his talent and tried to bring John on whenever a US powerhouse of the entertainment industry was appearing on the show.
