Ok why long hair? In the 1960/70/80, long hair was basically an expression of rebellion to this day, being different and rebelling, because most "normal" people wore their hair short. In addition, long hair is perfect for head banging and shows the world a different opinion, lifestyle and freedom. Hope I could help a little. Keep up the good work, you guys are very fresh and I guess you really love music. Greetings from an old German Metal Fan

Yes Black Sabbath with Ozzy and Toni started so called heavy metal. They and a handful of the new wave of British metal (Diamond Head, Mercyful Fate, etc) they created what is now known as thrash metal. And still most technical rock/metal band as a group there is. Kirk is great. But you wanna hear the best guitar player in the world? Look up Yngwie Malmsteen 😉 he is simply the best. But as a whole you’ll respect how good Tallica is as a band
@horzagiar883 жыл бұрын

@uzurpon3 жыл бұрын
@DimebagVision Well actually it was Ozzy who got the question. (I saw the interview) "We're playing Hard Rock" was his respons. But you're right about the reporter. It was the first time the term "Heavy Metal" was used to label a band. And it stuck. That was in 1970 when he wrote about Black Sabbaths first album that was released in the spring that year (Their second album "Paranoid" was released November same year). Since then Black Sabbath has wrongfully been labeled as a Heavy Metal band. First time anyone heard the words "Heavy Metal" was in 1968. The Song "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf, you hear "Heavy Metal Thunder" in the lyrics very clearly.

Black Sabbath really started heavy metal but Metallica were pioneers in thrash metal with their first albums. This song, Sad but True, came out in '91 on the black album which was a slower, more radio-friendly mainstream sound. When it came out, it was #1 everywhere and so was the first single, Enter Sandman. It alienated a lot of original Metallica fans but is still the best selling Metallica album to this day with over 16 million copies sold by 2016. BTW, Metallica cut their hair that same year (1991 or maybe 1992) and all of them remained with short hair since then other than the lead guitar.

They are the kings of heavy metal but they were influenced by metal bands that came before them like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Motorhead. They brought thrash metal to the masses because back in the 80's, 'metal' music was considered glam-rock Hollywood garbage like Poison, Skid Row and Motley Crue. Metallica came in and blew it up and then moved up to San Fran. The rest is history. Best metal band ever.

Great reaction, Rockers grow their hair out for various reasons, long hair in America has a long standing debate and is a form of rebellion. Rock music is a form of rebellion. The progression of rock and roll from the 50s to the Ultimate king of metal is paved with long hair icons, who's music professors never thought they would amount to much. Try telling your parents your gonna be a Rock star for a living, then record their facial expressions. That's why I love Rock and Roll.

The long hair in classic heavy metal is all about counter culture. The origins of hard rock and heavy metal date back to the 1960's and share a timeline with hippies and free love, but bands like Black Sabbath took the 60's counter culture in a slightly darker direction because their songs where anti war and about rebellion against authority like other late 60's bands, but instead of being soft and melodic they were loud and intense. And unlike the hippie counter culture which was more intellectual and college based, Heavy Metal is the more working class counter culture. As most of the British invasion bands of the early and mid 70's came out of poor and working class cities and communities. So most of the guys that formed Metal bands in the 70's and 80's were influenced by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath grew their hair out like they did to piss their parents off.

80's!! I heard this from my parents, it is so funny to see younger people enjoying this. I grew up on this. Listen to it again and think about it on an inner demon perspective. The part of your emotions saving you from the bad you may do,or have done. It can be deep. But music is all about perspective.

I saw the same show on Aug 29! Metallica even mentioned our drive-in theater here in Idaho Falls as being the 3rd oldest drive-in in the nation!!! I saw them live in Boise in their Master of Puppets show. They had a circle stage in the center of the arena which slowly turned so that everyone had a front view at some point. The funny thing Metallica did, was act like the concert was over when the stage was a little more than halfway from it’s starting position. The house lights went up and people headed to their cars quickly to avoid traffic. I just KNEW they wouldn’t stop the show until the stage had gone all 360 degrees around! After about 1/4 of the people were gone, the rest of us were still cheering! Then out came Metallica, and they laughed at the people who left and proceeded to do their biggest hits! It was over when the stage was back at starting position. It was so funny! And they put on an amazing show! It was fun seeing your reaction to them!
