I love how Squier's not just the budget brand, but the "Screw it, let's do whatever the hell we like" brand of Fender. Like, say, an LP Telecaster.

This was originally a fender design haha only made for one year under the alternate reality line. A lot of obscure models in that line, definitely worth checking out

That's exactly what first drew me to Squier - they don't just stick with the standards and the experiments they release are things people actually want

@@sunnyhaair Yeah, you're not gonna get a bunch of collector types going "Boo, this is not how the Tele was made in whatever year last century I think it peaked". Zero history. I want that Rascal Bass. In Shell Pink, of course. Short scale offset bass with two honkin'-great humbuckers that not quite like anything else? For under a grand? Normal people ask "why?" Cool people ask "why not?" Stuff like this is gonna end up with a cult following, not just for the design, but also for the accessibility. Lotta people who want a sound that doesn't sound like everything that came 60 years before.

Greetings! Hearing you say: "Squier is my favorite brand," really struck a note with me... At that moment I actually embraced that fact that I am feeling much the same toward Squier. I was always in mind saying that Fender was my favorite, but lately I have really opened up to the reality of Squier being a totally top brand that has so much potential to satisfy a player's real needs! Thanks for saying it!

Thanks for sharing that Raymond I really appreciate that it resonated with you! I totally get that it can feel a little jarring to embrace Squier as your favorite. For me, I’ve been a lifelong Gibson fanatic and I love Gibson. But Squier is a brand that excites me - I love their new releases (especially the paranormal stuff) because there’s just something about them that makes me want to play them. Fender is great, and I think that why Squier is so great. It’s not only an extension of Fender’s legacy but Squier is really doing something that the entire industry is benefiting from - exciting players and helping bring new players into the fold. The fact that it’s affordable is great, but regardless of price point - having guitars as versatile and well constructed as what Squier has been doing the last few years is incredible. Really great time to be a guitarist. Thanks again for watching!

Congrats on your new Telecaster! That means a lot to me. When I make these videos, I often have beginner players in mind. I wish I’d had a guitar as good as this when I was starting out-I’d put it next to anything. Playing guitar has been the most rewarding experience of my life, and I’m really happy to have played a small part in the path that led you to it. Hope it’s been treating you well! P.S. Make sure your string height isn’t too high! I had mine too high for years, and it caused me to develop some bad habits that made playing harder than it needed to be.

I just found out about this guitar today and I am in love! Thank you for this video, it sounds incredible. I remember when I worked at a music store in the mid 2000's, Squire was a junk brand with barely playable instruments. When the vintage modified (and later classic vibe) series began coming out it really skyrocketed Squires quality opinions. Now I'd almost always rather get a Squire than a Fender, since the price difference is huge but the quality really isn't!

You could use a fret kisser for a high fret unless it is lifted. Buying tools is never a bad idea. I do all my own work, I spend a lot of time rounding fret ends and giving the fretboard a worn-in feel, usually takes me about 6 hours. I have the Nomad fret tool you showed, they make a lot of good tools.

I am astonished with how much I love this guitar. I got the black and gold one and it's possibly the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen, but it plays even better than it looks. Pickups sound incredibly, the neck is like butter, everything about this model is OUTSTANDING. I may have to buy the gold one too just because these are a limited run and I will be kicking myself five years from now if I miss the chance to get such a truly special instrument. For 450 euros, Squier has done something remarkable.

I am interested in light gain sounds and pushed clean sounds. I think this combination of pickups, the stability of an inline and the strength of a bolt on neck covers all my bases. After having a Les Paul Special knocked over onstage years ago by a bandmate with a headstock destroyed, I am wary of using LP guitars at gigs. Bolt on necks are the safest most resilient and tellys are impactful sounding
@sunnyhaair
@sunnyhaair 3 ай бұрын
Hey Steve! This does the crunchy lighter gain sounds very well. Sorry I didn't include more of those in here. I love Les Pauls and I like that this will scratch the LP itch with that extra scale length for a little more clarity on lower tunings and cleans... The pickups actually remind me a lot of 60s Burstbuckers! And the headstocks can be scary so that is one less thing to worry about here. Sorry to hear your LP took a fall but I hope it recovered well. Also, I got your email and will put it on a scale when I'm home from work to let you know the exact weight. I feel like it's less than 7 pounds though!

Re the high fret .... tap first before filing. It may be enough. If you do have to file, make sure you know where the high spot is. It is unlikely that the whole fret is evenly high. You only want to take metal off the high portion (if it is needed at all). And a fret crowning file is not likely to help - they are designed to knock off the edges AFTER leveling (which tends to flatten the top of the fret) so the highest point is in the centre of the fret. They not NOT designed to lower the fret. You need a different tool to level (like a leveling beam for whole neck work or fret erasers for spot work). If money is no object, the StewMacdonald fret kisser would be ideal for your problem, but they are pricey. I just bought a Squier Contemporary Jaguar and love it. Similar PU sound options, roasted maple neck, same tuners. Biggest difference (besides body shape) is 24" scale. I did notice, when I tried to raise the tailpiece a bit, it was just turning in the body instead of screwing out of the insert. Easy to fix, but I'm glad I noticed it. I would hate to think what would happen if it popped out of the body with strings under full tension.
@sunnyhaair
@sunnyhaair 3 ай бұрын
Is that one of the gold Jaguars? That thing sounds GREAT. Glad you caught that bridge issue - I had the same thing on a Vintera Jag last year. And thank you for the heads up on my fret problem! It’s just the very top of the one fret. If I get the fret kisser, will I still need to crown, or is filing a one step solution?
@donald-parker
@donald-parker 3 ай бұрын
@@sunnyhaair Yeah - gold Jag. The fret kisser is just to flatten high spots. What makes it cool/easy is that it is also a "fret rocker" that helps you find high spots. But a much cheaper tool like a fret eraser or file can knock down the height. But once you get the height right the "formerly high" fret is now flat on top where it used to high. Thats when you need to reintroduce the "crown". If you don't, you can still play it but it can throw off the intonation and make that one not on the flattened part of the fret sound sharp.
@gorgon9786

I've done some of the highspots on cheaper guitars, like Mr. Sunny says,. And works golden every time!. The bow in files are of rounding of them frets like it should!.. So, when someone tells me it don't work,.. I can tell it do work,.. No need for pro- luthiers in this type of issues!! .. Lovely reviews as always, Mr. Sunny!! Thanks! 🙂

Great video, thanks for shouting out how amazing Squier guitars are ❤ You'll get little flaws on virtually any instrument, why pay $1000s when you can get this qquality for under 500. I'm a bit confused though, did you record direct from the Line 6 Pod Express into Ableton or was the mic'd amp part of the chain?
@sunnyhaair
@sunnyhaair 3 ай бұрын
Well the amp segment was just camera audio, the mic in the picture is there for some recording I was doing for a video on the amp. The rest of the video is the Pod Express right into Ableton! And yep, I’ve felt the same way about guitars. Especially because flaws are almost subjective for people nowadays. Thanks for watching!

Fender and Squier are getting a lot of my attention these. Much more than Epiphone or Gibson, which I’m more in the market for (a better les Paul than what I have). Torn between getting this or the Coral Red Player II Strat.

What kind of Les Paul do you have at the moment and what direction were you looking to go in? The new Modern & Supreme sound wise are in the same ballpark as this Tele (with a touch of that LP low mid heft). They’re really versatile too. That new Coral Red finish from Fender looks great. If I didn’t buy this I would’ve got one of the Jazzmasters. As for the strats though I haven’t played one of the Player IIs but I played a Player 1 Strat and the playability on this Tele feels identical.

@@sunnyhaair I was tempted by the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 59' but I'm not enthused with it not having a rosewood board for the £1200 asking price. IMO, brands should be offering rosewood or a darkened laurel when the price is over £750, but that's just my subjective opinion. I've never owned a top notch Les Paul before and I still have my first and only Epiphone from circa 2007, which is nowhere near the quality of the recent products. Mine is in barely playable condition (worn frets, new nut not set up correctly and botched electronics by me). Mulling over getting it fixed up properly or investing in a new guitar like this Squier. Also, what is the string tension like on this guitar. What strings do you have on it currently? Only interested as the shorter scale on a Gibson style is a bit better for the 10/11 gauge hybrid set I'd usually use on an LP style fixed bridge. Same standard fender tension more suited to 9 guage?

@sunnyhaair
@sunnyhaair 3 ай бұрын
I do! I’m happier with the bolt-on neck and more comfortable anchoring my hand on a tune-o-matic. I do like the Duncan in the bridge of the FMT more because it a little warmer, but that’s really only beneficial with gain for me so I’ll keep the stock pickups here… I’m thinking of switching to black plastics though! I’d probably have to get a custom pickguard made though…

@@sunnyhaair probably due to two reasons 1. Popularity of the Gold and Black combination being exploitable as the more "premier option" 2. Cost of gold plating if it is real gold and import tax to the us for gold, regardless of how small the amount of gold is. (probable a mere dollar per guitar in gold and maybe $5 per guitar in tax, i'd guess would be reasonable) Reason 1 is obviously the more influential reason, haha
