*BAND MAID!* The second head was a Bogner. Thanks for the reaction 😀😀 This was a collab with Mike Einziger from Incubus, hence the *different* sound.

Yeah, I went into this one totally blind, but now it makes sense why it sounded so grungy with Einziger's influence on the sound. I'm going to pin your comment in hopes that 9,000 people don't all leave me the same comment. Thanks for checking this one out. I hope you take a look at more of our stuff and consider subbing.

Great reaction! I like that you figured out the intro. This song is different, but they really don't box themselves into any specific music style. Love Band-Maid! Thanks!!

co-written with Michael Einziger guitarist and founder of Incubus. the Maids recently opened for Incubus in Tokyo and Mike joined the Maids on stage to perform Bestie for it's live debut. Miku wrote 100% english lyrics for the first time. Saiki produced the look for the Maids and video. coming up June 12 Band-Maid will welcome The Warning to Japan for their first visit and i'm expecting some kind of a collab from them. New album coming late summer. cheers

Even if it’s not for a reaction, do yourself a favor and check out one of their official live videos. They’re primarily a live band, and they throw in extra instrumental goodies for the fans that come out for them, and you can tell that they feel happiest in front of a crowd. Hate, from their recent 10th anniversary tour finale at Yokohama Arena, has a particularly fun bass and guitar battle in the middle. They sound as good or better live. Saiki, especially, will amp up her performance if the crowd is feeding her energy. And they have some songs, like Endless Story, that are purpose built for singing with an audience. They have a very emotional performance as their official live video for it, which was the closer for a 33 song set at their 10th anniversary tour finale.

I don't think Saiki face is being filtered it this video. I think it's because she's wear more natural looking makeup vs the makeup she wears while dressed in her maid outfit. If you see pictures of her outside of her Band Maid look, it's very similar to what she looks like in this video. I could totally be wrong, but that's what I think. Also, I respect your decision to watch only music videos on your channel, but Band Maid really is better live. So, maybe on your own time you might want to check out some of their live videos.
@LikeMindedLunatics8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the only thing that caught my eye was Saiki's face had that wobbly look as the camera moved that's usually because of filters, but they're also in heavy makeup, and the director and light person is absolutely blasting them with lights. So it could just totally be the way they're being shot. I hope so.
@douglasbrown13458 ай бұрын
You are 100 percent correct. There faces are not filtered. This is the same makeup they use in Band Maiko.

There’s some dispute, but I think there are a lot of little translation artifacts in this song’s lyrics. Lines like, “with you, darkness is not scary,” is a very direct translation from how you’d say that in Japanese, where it’s common to say something is scary, like “sharks are scary”, where in English, it’s more common to describe your feeling or reaction, like “I’m scared of sharks”. A more natural sounding line would be like, “with you, I don’t fear the darkness”. This kind of thing will always happen until you’re comfortable enough to think in the target language.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I speak a tiny bit of Japanese (order food, ask directions, stuff like that) and I know it's typically an SOV language, and some of my students are ESL with Japanese as the native language. So to my ear, the structure of some of the lyrics came across more as a direct 1:1 translation rather than a more nuanced translation. Which is still super impressive. It also means there are some lines that are oddly compelling because of the structure.

[Bestie, co-written by Michael Einziger of Incubus.] MISA's playing and bass tone are setting new standards... and Akane's drumming is so in-the-pocket and distinguishable... and Kanami's solo is Daydreaming masterful! The recording and mix are as enjoyable as the song and beautiful MV! Miku’s English lyrics (I bet with Saiki and Mikey-chan's influence) are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Band-Maid a band of fashion-forward, trend-setting Besties? 💞 Thx, Mikey & Band-Maid!

Enjoyed this reaction- missed the previous but will check them out now. Yes EVH for Miku and used to be Mesa Boogie Tripple for Kanami, but this one looks different.

Nice cover at the end there. This was a collab with Mike Einziger of Incubus who wrote the opening lick. For a non ballady song check out the instrumental FROM NOW ON. Peace. 7.96

I respect your celebration of the MV's! BandMaid's MV's are works of art, graphic, innovative and tell a story. Now here's the weird thing - damn near all of their official LIVE videos are superior to these stunninly beautiful studio MV's. Why? The energy the crowd gives the ladies and they get amped up in a live situation. I don't think I've seen any other band so superior when they are recorded LIVE. Thanks for the insightful reaction! (IMHO no one would be foolish enough to try and use a filter on The Queen!)
@douglasbrown13458 ай бұрын
Not face filtered. Additional white makeup for all of them. The same as they used in their Band Maiko Mvs

Why did you start your comment with an apology?
@TomClark-Futoura8 ай бұрын
@@LikeMindedLunatics Because you said that "it's too bad they used a filter on Saiki's face" to try and make her more beautiful. That's quite an assumption, Mark. Listening to your reaction I keep thinking, "The song, Mark. What about the song." Anyway I want to like your show, and will look forward to your next Band-Maid (or The Warning, Jinjer, and Lovebites) reactions. ;-)

@@LikeMindedLunatics I didn't hear the "hope" word at 3:33. I thought you were saying they DID facefilter her. But I'm not trying to make this a big issue. We both dig the Maids and their music, so all it good with me. Hopefully (there's that word again ;-) all is good with you, too! 🤘🏻😉

Saiki: "The off-white color worn by the members signifies the expectation for the future progress. I hope everyone can imagine how it will be colored and enjoy it together." Also Saiki, "When I listen to "Bestie", I get the image of traveling in the wilderness. I wanted to feel the same scenery and immerse myself in the world of the song with them, which is also expressed in the music video." @saiki_bandmaid FYI, this is a new collab song with Mike Einziger (Incubus), Po! Expect a little 😈when they collab with The Warning. All should be included in their new full album due out this Summer, Po! 🦍🍌 PS, I think Miku wrote this song for her bandmates, Po! Kanami went with Bogner Amp (from LA) with Mesa cab in 2023. She said she is trying to cut through in the highs while still maintaining a solid lower tone. What do I know I play bass, Po!

“never ever I will” does sound like it was written by someone thinking in Japanese. I know enough Japanese to think it sounds weirdly poetic, but to most people it’ll just sound weird…
@bartyslattfast8 ай бұрын
I actually took the weird structure as oddly poetic. Even the "I think I'm glad I met you now" which is likely a translation issue is appropriate if viewed from idea that Saiki was unsure of Miku and even herself and now is committed to the band and friendship.
@chrisbergsten14298 ай бұрын
@@bartyslattfast I think this is another odd choice of words by a Japanese speaker. In English we would usually use this "I think ... now" phrasing to say that we're unsure about something or coming around to it. But if you translate this back to Japanese you might get something like (I'm glad I met you) to omou which sounds natural and doesn't have the same connotation of changing your mind.
@bartyslattfast8 ай бұрын
@@chrisbergsten1429 yes I think the English connotation is unintentional but interesting. Or maybe Miku did intend it😮
