I bought mine 3 years ago and while I know it's cheap and it won't last forever, I love it. I made a charcoal basket for the side fire box and added two dial thermometers at grill level, one for each end. It has performed very well for me The first brisket I smoked came out perfect, as well as every other one I've made. I've learned to keep the heat pretty consistent by pulling the ash drawer in and out as needed. It's not the best offset smoker you can buy but it will certainly get you started and it won't break the bank. I can't wait to have to buy the new model. Lol

I just bought this grill, getting it delivered tomorrow, then I'll assemble it. Watched another guy assemble the old style and was like great.. do I get my money back? But seeing the upgrades, I'm glad I bought it now
@JJ-gr7th2 жыл бұрын
Why there really isn’t much of a difference, the grill is the same thickness on both, both have grates that can be moved up or down. What’s the difference for you to change?

Did you season the outside too?
@waltzb75482 жыл бұрын
I know this is from a year ago, just curious cuz I can't find any updates on how this Grill has worked for you. It seems that you're using the 980 gravity primarily. Just wondering, thanks for the videos.

Can you put charcoal in the main drum and grill your meats traditionally without smoking them?
@RobsBackyardBBQ2 жыл бұрын
Hey there - Yep, there's a charcoal tray the entire length of the main barrel. I've done that often actually, super handy to have the charcoal on one side and a cooler zone on the other.

Awesome, thanks man! I'll do a cook on the offset soon. Here's one that is kind of recent using charcoal in the main barrel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3aae32Foqdjfpo

Definitely looks like a bit of an upgrade. That griddle looks solid too👍

@@RobsBackyardBBQ I was checking out the flavor pro from the link in your description. That setup looks sweet too, especially if a griddle attachment fits it🤔
@RobsBackyardBBQ4 жыл бұрын
@@bobbicatton That does look pretty cool.. charcoal/wood looks like it can go in the 'flavor drawer' there..

Is the quality and thickness of the metal any better or the same
@RobsBackyardBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Hey Norm - the metal measured out as the same thickness but the overall quality of the unit seems better, plus easier to put together with the new leg mounting.

Like the video Mr Home Owner! Let us know how she smokes after you get a food hunks of food done. Also noticed it seems cool in your kneck of the woods so i am curious how it holds temp. -N

Thanks man - Yeah, I tried it the other day just as a 'grill' in the main chamber and it was fine. I need to get some more wood before using the offset. Thanks for watchin!

I have a question if you don't mind?? Is there a stainless steel charcoal basket for the side fire box that's compatible with the Smokin Champ Model??
@RobsBackyardBBQ3 жыл бұрын
hey Paul - I'm not sure of one, I know Char-Griller doesn't make one. If you find one that fits, let me know!

Mines have a lot of smoke escaping the main chamber from the door any issues with yours
@RobsBackyardBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Hey Wally, yeah, I had that on the old one and the new one, but you can just grab some felt tape stuff and put it around - it should help quite a bit. In my opinion, it's not that big of a deal as long as most of the smoke is coming out the chimney :)
@MrBBQ-si9qo2 жыл бұрын
It's so bad.. leaks horrible, dosent maintain any steady temp. Mine rusted after two uses and the pain it coming off all over. I could careless about rust and paint if it actually maintained temperature and didn't go all over 24/7
@RobsBackyardBBQ2 жыл бұрын
Dude.. it's a $200 smoker - you get a few seasons out of it and you have fun outside and with your family/friends.. thin metal, yeah.. but that keeps you on your toes! :) Don't be angry.. You had fun with it.. i know.. right?
@MrBBQ-si9qo2 жыл бұрын
@@RobsBackyardBBQ I'm not mad lmao disappointed because the price dosent match at all...
@RobsBackyardBBQ2 жыл бұрын
@@MrBBQ-si9qo sorry - didn't mean actually mad .. it's all about having fun with friends/family. I've had the old version of this guy and the new one. Yes, it's thinner metal than the more expensive stuff out there, yes, it's not going to last as long, but you know what? It's fun! Thanks for watching man - hope you can see it from that side.
