Reading the specs for the bass, I’m not surprised Amos went with those choices. His journey to find the most suitable instrument for his ideal sound in TesseracT is a pretty well-documented one. I truly find it pleasing to see how many companies have wanted to work with him over this past decade, it only makes sense that he landed with Dingwall, given his tonal requirements!

Switching from Warwick to Kiesel to Ibanez and then to Dingwall basses. Love to see it.

The Warwick tone was the best, it had the bite/growl and a darker subtone due to the heavy wood...Kiesel was depressingly bland, Ibanez was alright, Dingwall now is somewhat in the range of Kiesel but sliiiightly more bitey... (talking only about his bass tones throughout Tesseract discography)

@@6sentient I think that has more to do with the mixing than the actual brand of the bass itself

@@6sentient To my ears, this thing growls like crazy. I've got a '96 Streamer Pro M 4 string with 2pc maple body, full wenge neck with the old thin profile, MEC double jazz bucker, and the Just-A-Nut II. The Brass nut and the load of snappy wood give it this real bright and bitey growl with killer mids similar to how this recording sounds. Naturally, it can't get anywhere near as low without losing it's tight sound on account of the shorter scale length. I've even got a .130 or so top string on it for playing in B

Is this strung Bb,Eb,Bb,Eb? Strings look like the low 4 from a 5 string? If so will it be sold in that configuration?
@warrenoids16 күн бұрын
Bb, F, Bb, Eb
@noyd417216 күн бұрын
I think it's Bb F Bb Eb since the second and fourth string from the bottom aren't an octave pair (you can tell by watching his left hand), and that's the tuning he's used on the 4-string in the past afaik, pulling from Amos' notes on the Juno playthrough video.

@noyd417216 күн бұрын
Amos is very much a supportive bass player so sometimes in the loud sections you think you can't hear him but his sound just sits right under the guitars where it reads as adding weight to the chord movements; kind of a "you'd notice if it weren't there" type of trick. He's not trying to be a lead instrument. His approach is more akin to how Lee Sklar sounds using his Dingwall (which makes sense since they both use the SFII pickups) where the Dingwall is favored for stability over aggression.
@n00dl315 күн бұрын
Nah it's definitely loud in the mix. It's just not as cutting in the highs as other Dingwall basses. That said, we could have done with the rest of the mix being dropped out for 10s just to hear the bass in isolation.
