You have a lovely boat! We bought a Cape George 36 after falling in love with her lines and beauty. We refurbished her and then have been sailing her in the NE US, Canada and the Mediterranean. She’s a great sailor in heavy weather and also goes very well in light winds despite her displacement. One suggestion is to check the chainplates carefully - the bulkhead mount is a weak spot in Cape George sailboats. We ended up replacing them with chainplates that went down the outside of the hull on the sides and stern, bolted thru the hull both above and below the deck. That kept the decks clear and also made for stronger and more accessible attachment points for the stays. Anyway it’s great to see you enjoying your new sailboat - have fun.
@svpearlsailacapegeorgesail47583 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, I just enlarged my rear stay chainplate on my CG36. We’re your chainplates like the ones in the video or were they all 3 attached together with 1/4 SS plate?
@marygleaves23353 жыл бұрын
@@svpearlsailacapegeorgesail4758 I think the original backstay chainplate was a u- shaped ss piece that went around the opening in the bulwark for the tiller. A previous owner abandoned this system and made two chainplates bolted thru the aft bulwark a few inches in from the port and starboard corners. He also made a split backstay. His new chainplates did not work well and the stern toe rail was cracked, the stern itself was a bit distorted, and there was some rot in the wood bulwark in the corners of the stern. We had longer chainplates made, which were reinforced with a spine, and made so they could be bolted through both the bulwark and the fiberglas stern below the deck. We also beefed up the fiberglass stern to provide a solid backup for the chainplates. Then Karl replaced the damaged wood in the bulwark and also made a new teak toe rail for the stern section. The boat had three individual plates bolted though the port and starboard bulwarks for the side stays when we bought her. We replaced them with three much longer side stays installed on the outside of the hull that were thru bolted through the hull and bulwark and extending below the deck where they were fastened thru the hull with added reinforcement inside. How did you enlarge the rear chainplate? I can send you photos if you’re interested but don’t know how to do that on You tube.

No apology necessary! You totally made the right call keeping it quiet and indulging us with your European sailing. I'm glad you had that piece of privacy on your buying journey. How nice that it didn't leak out from any Patreons - good folk. You're making me appreciate my bronze portlights anew! Best of luck with the boat transformation - remember to enjoy the moments, even while you look forward to getting it all done. Wow!! First of all, a big congratulations from both of us (Ran-day & Captain Q)!! What an amazing surprise you managed to pull off under extreme conditions.... you win bonus points for the degree of difficulty in finding/buying/transporting a boat during COVID. Secondly, what a fantastic design!! We were just riding a ferry in Maine watching the video together (on an iPhone) and having a little chat about the things we love about your new home - Ran-day loves the extended bowsprit and can attest to the magic that can be had sitting out there(it's worth the extra dockage fees!), the Captain loves the classic square cabin top("the ultimate classic look"), the lovely transom, high coaming, and wide side decks..... so much to love!! Lastly, thank you very much for the shout-out... it's very kind of you to share our channel with your audience.... and with 100k+ well-deserved subscribers, you have set a gold standard for us to try to follow. The forward facing circular port-holes are very attractive and functional. They look so much better than oval shaped ones which cannot take the same force of waves sweeping aft on a deck in heavy weather. And Maya's words about this bowsprit are spot on. Apart from allowing extra sail area for the same waterline length, this feature, along with the port-holes and butterfly hatch, adds a timeless and classy touch to a highly attractive yacht. Well chosen!

I know is a bit late now but it might help others. Renting an ozone-generator and blast it in the boat during nights (when you are not there) will get rid of smells like they where never there. Builders routinely use them when restoring old houses. (and then re-plum the toilet system. There is where all the smells come from. Or why not a separation toilet).

I just started watching your videos today and now I’ve gone back to the beginning to watch them in order. I love your taste in music to accompany your videos. For me, it just adds so much to the stories you tell. Hello from Vancouver Island.

so glad you both so enthusiastically appreciate and embrace her unique aesthetics , character , and special qualities of your CG 36 - can't wait to watch your vision of MC II come to life ! Hope you invite us to listen in on your thoughts and comments about her history, the designer, builder and your discoveries, thoughts and decisions along your journey as you make her your own. Bravo Zulu!
