$5k plus for this. Nice tent, but ikamper is still Living in 2016 RTT pricing fantasyland. Plenty of options for this tent design with equal quality at much lower prices.

On the DLX, did they add a diesel heater/AirCon opening/port for winter and summer camping? I think that is a must for any deluxe rooftop tent.

Just started watching your videos, and they are outstanding!! Your camera work is also pretty amazing. I have had my Bronco for almost two years, and you have really given me the overlanding bug!! So far, my adventuring has been limited to WMA's in Florida like Richloam and Citrus. going to hit new trails in Ocala national forest soon. I know its really far away for you, but have you ever thought of coming east? Would love to see your take on the 1200 mile Florida Adventure Trail!! Keep up the great work!!

Thank you for your honest review. I’m on the fence with the Mini 3.0 & Mini DLX. I’m heading to Overland Expo - West to check out the new iKamper’s in person before pulling the trigger. I’m in the iKamper Mini 2.0 for the last 3yrs I think. I really enjoy it. I just think it’s time for an upgrade.
@OFFTHEGRIND8 ай бұрын
Dude the difference between the 2.0 and the 3.0 are actually pretty drastic. Even the standard foam matress is an upgrade from the 2.0. I wouldn't say the DLX is fully necessary, but man it is nice. The upgrades they did really change the tent for the better in my opinion.

@@OFFTHEGRIND I’m really looking forward to Overland Expo - West. I’m traveling over 1700 miles across country. Thank you for the really informative video. maybe the cork absorbs moisture instead? will it avoid mold build up,? let us know thanks!
@DonegalOverlanding4 күн бұрын
We have had the Skycamp 3.0 from the day it was released. There is zero condensation in it ever. We just have the normal aluminium base, no cork, no carpet, totally stock. We do leave the windows open a tiny bit to allow airflow and for condensation to escape, that is a very important step in any tent. You breathe out a lot of moisture, it has to go somewhere.

Great review, great tent. It is a little out of my budget for a RTT. Ikamper looks like a great product, but wow are they pricey.
@OFFTHEGRIND8 ай бұрын
I think the biggest differentiating factor from iKamper to the rest of the market is the canvas that they use. It is so good at allow moisture to escape, yet being breathable enough. No other tent has this fabric, and that is one of the biggest things you are paying for. They are expensive though, that is for sure.

These are great quality tents, I just think the cost benefit ratio is not worth it. You can be just as comfortable in a tent that costs a fraction of this tent. Or better yet you can get something like an 2 OzTent RX-5s and sleep 10 people for under the price as this, with a setup that is almost as fast. If you can afford this tent, its a great tent, but it wont do anything more that an amazon special tent will do, it just looks cooler and takes a few minutes less than an amazon tent.

Whats ur thoughts about that ladder holding up one side of the tent and the hinges when it folds open? Not a small guy and when i saw that i was pretty sure the only route for me was a wedge style. Great content by the way!
@OFFTHEGRIND8 ай бұрын
The ladder is designed to hold that weight, so I’m not bothered by it and it has never felt sketchy to me. I had the skycamp 2.0 for like 2 years I think and never had an issue with it. And thank you!
@ScoutTactical8 ай бұрын
You kept saying the d-l-x. Isn't it the deluxe? No idea just throwing it out there
@outsidepnw53818 ай бұрын
I had some bad bad experiences with my skycamp 2.0. The 2 side vinyl windows were rotting away after I opened the tent after the winter parked under a car port. Later in the year the top vinyl window also had cracks and holes in dry conditions. Ikamper made some contradictory comments when I complained about the issue that this issue is unusual but later in the email they stated that it happened to other customers as well. Besides that one of the rubber feet of the ladder fell off (you could see that the glue got squeezed out while doing the assembly) and the velcro of the ladder failed. In the end ikamper replaced the rain fly and I sold the tent. Also if you join the forums you can see other issues as well. But be aware there are 'users' trying to talk you down if you post about any issues... I'm super happy that I could get rid of the tent. Way to overpriced for the quality and craftsmanship if you want to call it like that. The tent wasn't even a year old.

Excellent overview. I was waiting to pull the trigger on the Skycamp Mini 3.0 for the same reason you mentioned, the weight of only 125lbs. Now I have to decide if the DLX version is worth the extra 15lbs...I know, real world problems. 🙂
@OFFTHEGRIND8 ай бұрын
Hahaha hey either way it’s a big purchase, so definitely weigh all options! I can tell you that the mattress is something you want to upgrade anyways and that’s where some of the added weight comes from. Not all the additional weight, but something to think about. Hope this helped!

Great first look review! I'll appreciate the new features it comes with but its $5K+ price tag pushes the envelope beyond my comfort zone. @vernonbernardino57818 ай бұрын
Definitely nice! I like the 82 x 51 inch sleeping area size, def the 140 lb wt as I'll need to take the tent off for access to the space above the truck bed, and lastly, I don't want the rig to look goofy with the tent's back end hanging out beyond the bumper when the tent is closed bc I prefer as low a profile as possible to avoid driving down the road with a brick behind the cab. I'm also leaning toward the Mini ($ is more "reasonable"). Perhaps iKamper will have a today only special $ at OXW. 😎🤞

I don't know what light bar they use, but I can promise you it is not a $10 amazon LED strip. And I and many of my friends have not have the same experience as far as warranty claims. And that was before I became affiliated with them. I had an RTT comfort that leaked when I had my skycamp 2.0 and they replaced it no question.

@@OFFTHEGRIND I have a skycamp 3.0 and did multiple upgrades. They do not standby the product, I personally went to their location south of Seattle and they aren’t very friendly or helpful with issues. I only had it for one month when the issue popped up. At 4,000$ you expect more from the company , especially when you show up in person. Took it on trips totaling 70 nights last year. I like the product but this new DLX simply isn’t worth the price hike. I know you are sponsored, while I get balancing the demands of it. I don’t know how you could say it’s worth it. I like your channel but I have to call out issues and be honest with a product I have used extensively and spent my own money on.
