It's really funny, and ibanez loves to get more crazy with the names...everything in the name has a meaning, but at least the all the series are based on the body model (RG,AZ,ArtCore, etc)

I have 6 Ibanez and their names never been a problem for me. I actually prefer them as they tell ye the essentials of their configurations. I have the XH300-BKF, its a mid level X-Series thats a Halberd model and is in flat black finish. This is Ibanez' no-frills affordable metal guitarist axe. It got a suitably swoopy shape to the all-mahogany strat body shape, no inlays, and an active HH setup with TOM style bridge and saddle bar. It's easily one of my biggest guitar that required a bass-sized gigbag! The S570DXQM-TGB is a midrange S-Series that is a Deluxe model with Quilted Maple under the Transparent Gray Burst. Deluxe meant it came with bound neck and headstock and a maple cap. The only model I have that could throw someone off if just told about the name is my RG450-BK. One would be forgiven if one thinks it's just a mid level RG-Series in Black. But it's actually a 1986 model that's among the first RG models and one of the few RGs with just 22 frets and had the Roadstar name on it too. The pups are HSH passive EMG-look-alikes that are coil-splitted w a 2way toggle. This guitar is also among the first to feature the original Zero trem, Ibanez' licensed FR trem, which IMO is superior to the Floyd Rose. Then there's my RG565R-CA. It's a rare spot model (translation: a preproduction prototype) made before the regular production version started the next year in 1990. It too is a mid-level guitar but has a Reversed headstock and has Candy Apple red (Ibanez' version of Crimson Red Metallic). On this one, it has the, very unusual for Ibanez, feature of having a HS pups, a bridge humbucker and single coil neck. And a 3way switch like a telecaster. The regular production lost the sharktooth inlays on rosewood fretboard and switched to a 5way switch to switch between the humbucker and now single-coil sized humbuckers with coil-splitting mixed into the switch.

I kind of like the Ibanez model numbers. It's like their signature. No fancy-pants or flowery names, just a code that tells you exactly what the guitar is and what it's features are. Once you figure out what the letters and numbers mean, it's easy to read and remember.

Ibanez names don't roll off the tongue at all, but there IS a system to the madness. The first letters are the model family (RG). The first number often indicates price bracket (absent for affordable, 1 for upper end, 2 for prestige). The next 3 are the hardware configuration'(pickups, pickguard, bridge, ...). For instance RG*550*** means HSH on a pickguard, with typical 5way rocker switch, 1 volume 1 tone, floating trem. Some more letters if present may indicate special woods or extras. The final letters then indicate the colour(s).

My 16yo son found a late ‘80’s Ibanez HSS, Floyd trem, 22 fret, shred machine amongst a pile of junk outside a neighbour’s house. Although not a guitar player he was intrigued and bought it home where , I stripped it down , cleaned it up ( it was filthy ) re-strung and did a set up. What strikes me is how, apart from the EMGs, the guitar my son has is basically the same as the new one even though 30 years have passed. BTW, being a proud owner of a flash guitar he started to teach himself via KZbin and now is a fan of all the usual guitar heroes and composes various drop D modal dirges all day long. As a postscript he found an amp ( Kustom 20w practice ) in perfect condition about two weeks later in the same circumstances. He’s always had good Karma.

The Mahogany one reminds me of the old Reb Beach signature from the early 90's Ibanez / RBM2NT Reb Beach . I used to have one but as usual I sold it and regret it. It came stock with EMG sa- sa- 85 I believe and a koa top and rosewood neck.??

In Indonesia Meranti usually used to make a furnitur, door, window frame or anything associate with construction.. its a lightweight and a very strong wood.

Love the RG6PKAG. I have a Dean Vendetta that I am swapping out the hardware from black to all Gold. This Ibanez proves to me that I was right. It will look spectacular. Gold tuners strap locks. The works even the pickups. and the plug. The back plates will be wood. Maybe brass.

BTW Lee the EMGs are color coded. 81 is Ceramic/Steel and has a silver logo and the SAs are gold because they're Alnico. Another example is the 85 which is also Alnico and with a gold logo, or at least this is what I gather from their instructions PDFs on the EMG site. I adore this channel. To be honest I doubt it, with active EMGs they have a pretty particular sound. I doubt they even sound single coil- I'm talking out of my ass and guessing a bit here, but lately a lot of pup companies have made single coil sized pickups that are essentially single coil in size and appearance only. Be worth digging a bit deeper to see if it's something you can deal with, that guitar is definitely gorgeous

I never thought much about Ibanez products. Anything with the Ibanez name was rap in my eyes until I bought one. I bought the AR 520 in black. DAMN NICE. So, when I see these ind of videos, I am waiting for the details. Tell me about how the make the frets and install them . What are the manufacturing tolerances. Now,with all those buttons on the floor changing the tone, .....big deal. I want more details about how it’s made.

Ibanez seems to never fail whatever your budget is. I kinda regret spending a crapton of money for my first usa fender stratocaster deluxe that i bought in 2004. If i knew better i‘d bought a ibanez for sure. If there‘s one brand for a beginner buying a first guitar it would be Ibanez. Forget about squier or epiphone, these brands are nostalgia. Ibanez would be the way to go for me, then ltd maybe. No jackson or all the frr er nder subbrands

The black RG 370 something something shows again how far Ibanez have come from just a few years back with the entry level RGs. Gone are the infamously bad Pickup's, those are decent to say the least, the trems are spectacular for a sub 500 bucks guitar. Just decently speced import guitars that are everything a Ibanez RG is supposed to be.
