This is the one I use here in Strayla. The ol' mesh hammok fits under a bit better. Up outa Mr slitherys way is what I like. It's cooler too. Being a bit older bastard I really appreciate the lighter weight. Dude, keep movin' and shakin' this world with all this good shit you bring. You've a tonne of integrity about ya... somethings can't be bought and nor should they. So thanks for bein' you. Regards, Secari.

Thank you, Brother. A bit shorter hammock sounds interesting. Lightweight, compact and efficient is the way to go. Not too many slitheries here, but ticks can be a bit of nuisance. All the very best, mate. Cheers

one tip I got from Blackie Thomas channel that helped a lot with my tarps/ponchos was to use a short cord for a loop but instead of leaving it normal i twisted it tight so it would double back on itself before tying the knot like when you make cordage. this causes the loop to be usable as a loop by untwisting it so it'll go around pegs/tie-outs and also keeps it from snagging the loops on everything. when done proper it appears like there is just a short cord acting like a tag on the original loop. I know I'm not explaining it properly but hopefully you will see what i mean.
@EnduranceRoom9 ай бұрын
No, you did a good job explaining it. I saw Blackie’s video awhile back too and thought it was a good idea. Glad to hear it is working well for you.

It's very nice that you showed how it looks with a hammock. I was also wondering whether it would work in hammock camping and did an experiment a few weeks back. It would probably be ok for a light rain without any wind but not much more.

Thanks Brother! Absolutely crushes the miltec. I haven’t played around with it, but I bet the Helikon could work as impromptu rainwear in a pinch. Have a good one! 🤝

↟↟Hey Jess🙌🏻 I mainly use 3x3 tarp but I also have a mini tarp from OneWind which is very light, compact and functional, so sometimes the small size is more than enough:) Thanks for sharing Brother👍🏻 Cheers

Hey Alex! Thanks Brother. I really like the 3x3 format, especially for overnights, but must say the smaller tarps sure are nice for hikes and day camps. Your OneWind tarp looks excellent 👍👍 Cheers Brother 🤝

Thank you for the video. I think this is a more viable option for me. I'm trying to cut down on size and weight with all my gear. I have a DD 3x3 light. I like it but its bulky. A lot of times I go back to my military poncho 62"x82", 18 oz or the USMC tarp, 80"x 90", 32 oz. This 2x2.5 (78"x 98.5" at 15.4 oz. is perfect also all the tie out points all over it that I don't get with the poncho or USMC tarp, and I like the storage configuration of 4"x6". Probably will order one.

Yes indeed. Definitely a great option. These flew off the shelf, but they should be back in stock in a week or two.

I haven’t checked out either supertarp, but I do have a lot of other Helikon Tex gear. Their stuff is tough to beat, especially given how relatively affordable it is.

Hi Jess .. 👍👍👍 .. a nice looking tarp. I have something similar .. the Varusteleka 'Särmä Erakko Tarp, 2.5 x 2.5 m' It's made in conjunction with the DD Tarp Company and the quality is good. Big enough for me but .. the only issue that I have with it are the tie-outs .. there are only nine. More would have been nice. Perhaps not absolutely necessary, but nice. Shock Cording on the tie-outs are a good idea in windy conditions as they reduce / absorb the 'shock' load / stress on the tie stitching. Fiddly ties 🙄 .. I suppose that's where some of the weight saving comes in 😏. Good info for those in the market for a smaller tarp. Thanks for sharing .. take care .. Tommy
@EnduranceRoom9 ай бұрын
Hey Tommy! Thank you. The Erakko looks like a solid option for sure. I love the 3x3 format, but a lot of times it just isn’t necessary, especially on day trips. You’re spot on with the shock cord. I have some marine grade 1/4” shock cord that is complete overkill, but it does the job and seems to tolerate the cold as well. Have a good one 🤝

Hello Jess- Thats a cool tarp and good that it is ripstop material. I see what you mean about the small tie outs. If you only had one option for a tarp size, what would the dimensions be? Thanks- you and yours be good up there-
@EnduranceRoom9 ай бұрын
Hey Mike! Thanks. If only one, a 10x10 is very versatile. Other formats are good, 8x10, 10x12... I think 15x15 pushing it, but depends on situation, especially number of people. Have a good one
@krushvor27749 ай бұрын
Hi and thx for the comparison. I own the normal Super Tarp and I agree, it's sometimes a little bit to big. This one seems to be a good alternative. One Question: What "Bugnet-tent" do you use? I'm still locking for a good one.
@EnduranceRoom9 ай бұрын
Thank you. I have a USGI bugnet that I like (low cost) and a bug tent from POMOLY for their FORT tents which is nice. It has doors and a floor and perfect under a 3x3. Not sure if they still make it though. The USGI is pretty large and has tie outs, which makes it really flexible. Can be used underneath or draped over top of many different shelter setups.

Hi, great stuff. I picked up an Orc Industries US military poncho recently. Haven’t tried it out yet, but the size is 96”x66”, so 8’x5.5’. A bit larger than the “military style” ponchos by other manufacturers. Orc Industries has been the provider of ponchos to the US military since the early 80’s. Would be interesting to see what you could do with that. Thanks.

3x3 is a very useful format. Definitely appreciate it in the colder months. I haven’t had much time for the woods and haven’t been out hunting. Been paying attention to their movements though. Saw my first coy wolf up here the other day. Big boy. Red like a fox, but about the size of a big husky. Found some scat, full of deer fur. Working away on the stacks. Have a good one brother.

The new Russian Ratnik poncho seems to be big enough as a rain poncho, how does it work as a tarp?
@EnduranceRoom9 ай бұрын
It is excellent. Same size as Ratnik shelter sheet and with a little creativity, they can be combined to make tent.
