Another great set-up, so simple & yet very functional. We did make our mod tee-pee. It actually go around the tree itself, using the tree trunk as a pole with the tarp going around it. The top end we use elastic velcro so it almost stops rain & snow from coming through. Not advisable during a monsoon or typhoon. Cheers mate fom Australia.

Very handy setup, Jess. In SA we get these horrendous thunderstorms, and this setup would work well to keep rain out especially directing the back toward the storm (though sometimes the rain falls sideways haha) Thanks for sharing these concepts, I hope to try this with the 6x9 garden tarp I have as a spare. Also appreciated is the mention of knots. Us guys not practicing these on a daily basis can do with that. Take care, my Friend.
@EnduranceRoom Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Klaas! Sideways rain is quite a site. I used to live in Florida and experienced it there. This may work with the 6x9. An excellent setup is the Holden tent. One short pole at the midpoint of one of the long sides and all 4 corners staked down. It maximizes the coverage. Cheers my friend 🤝

I had a US shelter half and froze my butt off, found two old poly tarps in the woods and made the tepee. Disguised it with sticks and brush. Was camped out in a little chunk of woods in the middle of a pretty large urban area. Fire inside the tepee made all the difference, both in terms of warmth and staying out of sight.

Your channel is an under-appreciated gem. You provide great information and gear. Almost always a bit off the beaten path. Just curious, could you super-shelter this tarp set up by throwing some plastic drop cloth over the open front?
@EnduranceRoom Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. Appreciate it. For doing a super shelter, I think the first variation would work pretty well using a pole for suspension offset to the side so a fire could be in front. Ideally the plastic drop cloth should cover the whole shelter, except a small gap near the ground with some cloth for fresh air intake. Mylar could be taped to the inside of the tarp for heat reflection. That all being said, Mors’ design works really really well- raised bed, half dome shape structure. If you get a chance, it is definitely worth building one. Cheers

Plow points are pretty basic tents. Problem is most tarps have different sizes and design configurations. Getting a 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 tarps are hard to come by, unless you cut down a tarp to those dimensions. You'd think manufacturers would recognize this!
