This is a re-upload of a previously released video. The original included an incorrect release date (which is May 22nd, not April!).

That's such a promising book! I haven't seen so many Archetypes I'd love to play since the Book of the Dead (hehehe!), and the Ancestries look fun to play as well! (I remember wanting to play an Awakened Parrot as backup character in 1E Skulls & Shackles! )

Book looks good although surprised they didn't go with different animal types for centaurs like lion or panther bodies. Basically make taurs of any large animal possible.

I don't think Awakened Animals are supposed to be considered as replacements or variants of Catfolk or Shoony, for the same reason an Awakened Gorilla wouldn't be considered a different flavour or replacement for Humans. They might come from the same evolutionary origins, but they clearly aren't the same and I suspect a Catfolk (for example) you ran into in Absalom would be very offended if you told them you thought they're just an intelligent housecat. All that to say, I'm still holding out hope Shoony get remastered someday. * *fingers crossed* *

I definitely don't think this is a replacement for Catfolk, but I've been directly told by a Paizo designer that they have no intention of publishing more content or Shoonies because they're canonically Pugs (and no other breed of dog), and that makes them problematic. But Awakened Animal at least gives those people who want to play anthropomorphic dog characters an option that (hopefully) will continue to get support.

@@HowItsPlayed Oh, I thought Paizo had long ago started claiming that they weren’t all pugs and that that was just the more common variant; I’ve certainly never been a fan of all of them being pugs in art. But it’s disappointing to hear that they’ve decided they’re all pugs and won’t be remastering them to be otherwise either. :( I think having catfolk but not dogfolk is a missed opportunity if they leave it there.

Yaaas, new Warden spells, the current ones are just a little disappointing to me.

Requiring a feat for reach is a straight up tax. I really detest these sorts of rules. Not using it at my table. If you're large, you have reach. I don't abide the extra complication.
@eamk8877 ай бұрын
I mean, it's that way because of balance. It'd be way too OP if Large PCs had 10 feet reach from the start. With a reach weapon, they'd have reach of 15 feet, which is just insane! You are completely free to give your large PCs 10 feet reach, you're the GM after all (I assume), but it shouldn't be the default rule, the default rules should always be as balanced as possible.
@TrueKoalaKnight7 ай бұрын
@@eamk887 I disagree that it would be op. Large NPCs have reach by default, so I can throw more enemies with reach at the party to balance it out. Any PC can start with reach simply by using a reach weapon already. And it's also self balancing because large characters can be ganged up on more severely and I have more opportunities to flank them just because of their size.

@@TrueKoalaKnight and now your medium-sized party-members are at a disadvantage as more enemies have reach... It is the typical "homebrew" solution: 1) Ignore rule that enforces balance, 2) makes a different rule to try and bring balance back, 3) new rule has unintended consequences for balance, 4) game gets more unbalanced, 5) repeat 2 to 5 ad infinity.
