It's really silly how prone to breaking shields are in pathfinder 2e. It's one of the things which has put me off paying it. If they got something this simple so clearly wrong what else have they messed up in their supposedly well thought out system? When I first read the rules I couldn't believe that shields could be broken by only a normal hit it two. So I read the discussion around shields within the PF community. There seemed to be a lot of interest on whether you could block *after* damage is rolled. The reason for this is that players wanted to take the big hits on their bodies to save their shields from being broken as this is optimum play. Some people instead suggested that shields should be treated as a disposable resource which gets routinely broken thrown away and replaced. And that shield using characters should carry around a supply of replacement shields. 🙄

Did they seriously put f*cking pronouns in their character sheets? And here I was thinking only D&D did moronic stuff of that nature.

I detest shields in PF2. It's needlessly complicated for something that doesn't do a whole lot, requiring several feats and runes to be worthwhile. But then you now become more a bookkeeper as you keep track of everything.

How does Reactive Shield work with knowing or not knowing what an enemy has rolled to hit? Is the dm supposed to say, "Enemy rolls a 23 to hit," or "Enemy hits you?"
@samus790
@samus790 Күн бұрын
I typically keep an idea of who has their shield raised, so that if something did roll a hit, I verbalize the option. You have to know their AC to know if it hits anyway right?
@speedingspoon262

Personally how I GM, unless a role has the secrete tag, I roll it open. My players get to see the enemy totals and damage rolls (I use Foundry VTT). I prefer to do this as it helps players decide if they want to use their reactions in responce to a trigger. My reasoning is, attack rolls don't have the sectet tag and it worked really well for my games. It also saves time, as it avoids situations where the player goes- ''wait I had a status bonus to AC, did you include that?'' and then we have to go through the logs and such. In such circumstances, players know if the attack would of hit them anyway. Now here is my own rule change. Any feature which lets you raise your AC in responce to being targeted, I change to when you are hit. My reason for this is reactive shield trigger is being hit (not targeted) and gives a bonus until the start of your next turn. Other features like Nimble Dodge only raise your AC for an attack, so I think its more than fair for rogues to let them know if thier Nimble Dodge would change the result of an attack. Since reactive shield users would know this in my games.

9:05 this is actually incorrect, there are a few Accessory Runes, like the Spell-Bastion rune, that can be applied to shields. Accessory Runes are rarely talked about, but they range from cute flavor to actually powerful and I think they're pretty neat!

Great video! However I don't agree with the advice to always pick up Shield Block if you plan to use a shield - being a pure Shield Raiser is perfectly viable and opens options for many different kinds of magical shields that lack the durability to block effectively. Spellguard Shield is a prime example of an excellent Shield Raiser shield.

From a historical point of view, since the world of Golarion is on a mostly pre-industrial level, I feel like that modern players vastly overestimate what a crafts person in those eras would actually earn. Feeding and Clothing their family isn't that costly but they obviously won't be able to amass treasure with that kind of income. How many crafts people NPCs have high level equipment even though they work on most days for all their life? Not everyone is highly skilled, specialized or famous and is able to name their prizes....so I think this isn't too far fetched at all.

16:49 I’m the opposite and have been using skill challenges since 4e. It’s much easier for both DM and PCs to be transparent about the challenge and how they win or lose. You have to accept that you ARE playing a game and not everything can be camouflaged with RP or in-world actions. YMMV.

One thing I do with dual-weapon wielders is picking up Quick Draw. Draw one weapon, move up to your oppenent (as drawing a weapon can incur an AAO) then using the Quick Draw, draw and Strike in the same action. That way in the next round both of your weapons are drawn for combat.

Are there are rules about crafting on the road? Setting up a mobile workshop in a covered cart and just crafting while moving, or stuff like that. Or is crafting limited entirely to a downtime activity while staying in town? I'm trying so hard to find anything about this.
@HowItsPlayed
@HowItsPlayed 7 күн бұрын
I think the GM usually makes the call as to whether a workshop is needed for crafting. For example, an Alchemist's Lab is portable (although very bulky) to allow people to craft alchemical items while away from a town. That said, I'm not aware of any rules for creating a mobile workshop. I think that may just need to be a GM's decision. And there is one magic item I know of, Torag's Silver Anvil, that can be used as a mobile forge but it is 18th level and not very accessible. 2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=575

@@HowItsPlayed I see, I see. What about just generally using crafting rules while adventuring? For example, the party needs 3 days to reach their destination, are there rules that allow crafting during those 3 days on the way there, or is crafting impossible in this case since it's technically not a downtime?
@HowItsPlayed
@HowItsPlayed 7 күн бұрын
@@Mira-rl9qw It's up to your GM to determine if you are in Exploration Mode or Downtime. If you're traveling for three days through dangerous territory and the GM is making you keep careful watch, then you're likely in Exploration mode and couldn't craft dur to all the interruptions you'd face. If the GM is just "hand-waving" those three days, they might decide those three days are Downtime. Of course, your character doesn't know if they're in Exploration or Downtime Mode. If you meet all the requirements, you could start crafting in the back of a covered wagon and if you get interrupted, then you may need to start over.

I'm not a veteran GM but I was a DnD5e exile for about 2 or 3 years (however long it's been since the OGL debacle) and I only GMed Pathfinder 2e for a year but I have some advice: as a DnD exile, you will feel the urge to change up a rule that you might not understand or that you think it doesn't make any sense. DO NOT GIVE IN TO THIS URGE. things are written the way they are for a reason. play the rules as written and after a while until you will understand why it's written like this. only THEN you should try to modify it WotC does not write rules thinking of every situation so might feel you have to come up w rules for some scenarios, but more likely than not, these rules already exist. make a ruling in the moment, then look up the rules after and educate the players on what the correct rule is

Just to clarify, because I'm thinking about picking up Dangerous Sorcery Feat for my Harm Build. Per spell level, I should get a +1 bonus. So with Harming Hands Feat, a Level 4 Harm touch spell should have the potential to do 44 damage Maximum if they fail the Basic Fortitude save. Of course, if you roll a D20 that should double that to 88 damage. Also, for the Level 3 burst, I should I decide to hit multiple targets, they all take the extra +1 bonus damage, so if target 3 creatures with Level 3 Harm, that possible 33 damage to all three. Right or wrong? Please let me know.
@xellosmetallium8519
@xellosmetallium8519 10 күн бұрын
You best bet when using Harm as a cleric is to pick up Harming Hands and Dangerous Sorcery Feat. Casting Harm 1 action, using Level 4 Spell slot you have the potential to roll 44 damage maximum, which you could do 3 times for possibly 132 damage if you roll perfect. Double damage if you get a D20, but if you can do that I go buy a lottery ticket.
